its a shame really since I was looking forward to something after playing WoW for so long but to me Lotro feels like a step back from WoW.

I cant stand the singleplayer walkthrough you have to go through when you start your character. I want to be able to go into the world and begin quests and exploring straight away but I cant even do much of that without being told that I am too low level for an area and cant go there.
I cant stand how characters move, they looks like they are running an invisible layer of ice covering the world. Its looks like they are floating along and dont have any weight. This also happens with creatures around the world.
I also cant stand the loading screens when going in and out of bulidings, I know that there are good reasons for this but still they take away any sense of immersion for me.

Its a damn shame I cant get into the game and enjoy it but it looks like I will be sticking to WoW for a few more years.

Why stick to WoW for few more years when some really awsome mmorpgs will be released?
A good tip if you don`t want to play one of the "favourite mmog`s" : check out  www.tcos.com
Looks really good so far, hope there will be soon open beta as i`m looking forward to playing this game!!!

I didn't get to play all that much, but what I did play I wasn't really into. I can't put my finger on it, but something is lacking in this game. I preordered before I got into the stress test so I will play beta more and see if I like it better on my new computer (I was really lagging during stress test on my old rinky dink computer) and make a more educated decision at that time.

Not a big fan of the game but I did find it was more fun after level 12. Not really sure why but I had fun til about 25. Then released PVP sucked and it was just  another  Cookie Cutter MMO.

i ca see where your coming from with the movement of chars, but that maybe fixed at launch, i dont know. The area thing where you cant go, i can go where i please so dont know which bit you mean unless its the monster play area where you have to be level 10, let us know im curious. But at the end of the day if you dont like you dont play. I have just cancelled vanguard(wasnt having fun), but i will be buying lotro, for what its worth

After you have done it once with a class/race you can skip it when you make a new.

I don't care that much about running animations. There is a million other goods things ingame if you take the time and level up.
Sounds like you are judging the game from a very low level players view.

Its a damn shame I cant get into the game and enjoy it but it looks like I will be sticking to WoW for a few more years.

Take a look at Age of conan or Warhammer. They might provide what you need later this year.

Personally, I didn't really dislike LOTRO but I do feel it's a slightly inferior version of WoW with different graphics over the top. The quests are pretty much the same 'go here, kill this', the classess are pretty much the same with only cosmetic differences, the levelling system, upgrading gear, it's all been done before and on a MUCH grander scale in other games.

The graphics are beautiful and very well done but the zones all feel very samey with fields and trees everywhere. For a game that has hit the marketplace so long after WoW, it should surely offer a new experience to WoW, DDO, etc... Instead, we get a slight variation of theme but something that really is more of the same overall..

Let's hope TCOS, DAOC or WAR bring something new to the fantasy MMO table because LOTRO really doesn't

CoH/CoV - D-Zol/Kinslayer
Auto Assault - Slayer
WoW, LOTRO, DDO - Kinsul
Matrix Online - Tempest

First I would like to say, "I love WoW! I have 12 characters over 40 level. It is a great game, and I would never take that away from it. With that said, I must say LOTRO is great in its own right also. It all depends on what is too your liking. I personally love the way they started me off, guiding me through the story line. My character meeting the famous Tolken characters. Them conversing with my character and making me a part of their world. I felt like my character had purpose and meaning in this world. That I could help Middle earth in some way.

As far as not being able to explore higher level places, I know in WoW I could not just walk into an higher level area without expecting to aggro some near by creature which on many occasions would kill me. I believe all mmorpgs have that problem to some exctent? But I can see what you mean.

And as for the character's movement, I must admit I'm a bit confused? The graphics on LOTRO are very good. The movement art is awsome. The graphics beautiful. The mob's animations are great. Even the little goblins at the beginning levels are cool to watch, where their attacks come in different forms.

Now for the zoning when entering buildings, I must admit, it is not for everyone. But it is quite fast, and should not be a big factor in wheather a game is good or bad. For example: I love the instances in WoW, and some people do not, but does that make WoW a bad game? Of course not.

But I agree with you. You should not play LOTRO if you are not having fun with it, and that's what mmorpgs are all about: Having fun! Good luck in finding that game that is right for you!

that was so stupid.

and on another note after you get past like level 10-12 it starts picking up and being fun.
before that it was more of a simple lead on to the story and stuff.

it gets fun, the game is lore focused so you really have to read everything to enjoy the game.
and the quests are really thought out which is a thing i really like about the game.

Never argue with idiots. They just bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

If I had judged WoW on the first 10 levels I would have never played the game again.

The OP's complaint about not being able to explore off the bat means he didn't make it out of the starter area, which only requires level 6 and about 45 minutes (okay, 1 hour to a new player) to complete.

Heck, if I judged sex based on spending 20 minutes on it I probably wouldn't like that either. Fortunately I stuck with it past the first time and, what do ya know?  It was good.
