Simu will be at the game developer's conference showing both the Hero Engine and Hero's Journey. So hopefully they'll release some new info about the game and renew the interest in it. Now would be the perfect time for it with GDC and E3 comming up.

I'll be there! :)
GDC is for developers, so naturally most of the emphasis will be on Hero Engine. E3 and gaming shows are for the games, GDC is for the geeks ;) However, those of you interested in HJ the game, if you can stop by the booth, I'm sure you can get a look at a some of new features/areas that have found their way into the game. |

Just an FYI....I spent about 2 hours with one of the co-owners of Simutronics on Friday unrelated to Hero's Journey. She was kind enough to give me a tour of their studio and I was highly impressed with what I saw. She showed me a little of Hero's Journey and I couldnt believe the graphics. They were nothing like Ive ever seen in an mmo. I was shown a castle, and the detail was second to none. The trees and water detail was simply jaw droping. Unfortunatly thats about all I was shown but believe me, there are many people (very friendly people I might add) workin on Hero's Journey. I cant wait till this game comes out because I believe (if everything else is done like the graphics) its gonna be huge. |

Originally posted by Zidavey The coolest additions to engine that I like this year are dynamic skies (so purty), flares, and the 3d GUI elements. Those caught my attention the most. That's just engine type stuff though. But the flares and dynamic skies (day/night cycle) add silly amounts of flow and realism to the environments, I'm sure these features will be very well received. The 3d gui elements are just fun, and will become useful as more things are fleshed out. Billboarding is always useful, and this particular upgrade is quite robust for things like name plates and other interactive gui elements to be displayed in 3d (imagine health bars or other types of things). Prior we had a regular name plate type system you'd expect to see in a game of this nature, but this raises the bar that much further. One of the OSGM's had his chat window attached to his character's head on the huge plasma display for one of the demos. Funny stuff. He was running around and typing into the window at the same time :P |

I agree, the skies/weather control options look pretty neat. Personally, I think the built-in chat software that allows you to change your voice is very shiny too. That way you can chat with others and stay in character.

I've always felt dynamic skies were very important in creating an atmosphere of depth, ever since I saw the sun and moon in Ocarina of Time actually move across the sky. It wasn't the greatest effect, but it really helped give the game a new layer of depth. It's good to hear they'll have that in the HeroEngine, and very likely in Hero's Journey.
