"Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger"

Something I do not understand is why ever one feels WAR has to take away players from WoW in order to be a good game.

It'll probably have to. Mainly because they share the same target audience. "Younger males that like fantasy and competative play".
I'm not saying every one that plays WOW is like that, i'm speaking generally and demographicly.

Also, i think "a good game" in this case means "a sucessful game". i.e. a stable game with lots of subscribers. In that case the above is true.
If you look at both games features, they are very similar. Both focus on a well known IP's, PvP focused classes/areas, PvE grinding/quests, similar graphic styles, the list goes on. I think that WAR is going to tear deaply into the WOW fanbase because of theese similarities. It's not really a question of "if".

WOW will not die because of this though. There are still enough difference betweeen the two, and there will always be the die-hard fans that refuse to let go. Blizzard will have to shape-up in face of the competition, so i really hope everybody will gain something.

Plus, i like to make pants, so i'm just going to have to play both ^^

If life is but a dream, then why must we row so hard?

I would certainly pick Warhammer over Warcraft if they implement an end game that doesn't focus on raiding.

With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal

I have to admit I do like PvE, just not endgame PvE. And I also like crafting these "pants" that keep being mentioned. Am I still going to play to game? Of course, it shall be amazing, it just won't be everyones cup of tea.

Who buys WoW for competitive play? The game's biggest weakness is its PvP. It always has been.

If you want a real harsh death penalty, go play Russian Roulet. - Hamzal

The Original Hater

anyone who uses "DPS" as a verb or adjective is a wow fanboi.

In UO and DAoC we just used the terms DD, AoE and DoT.  you either "hit hard" or "hit fast", we didnt  call someone who delt damage a "damage per sec" person just because everyone was using a popular add on that had a damage per sec gauge. Thats a wow fanboi.  Also,as you can see, 2473 hours spent playing wow?s3nd3n Xfire Miniprofile

Anyhow, this game dosent have to slay wow, it just has to appiese the small minotiry of people who want to RvR and Group vs Group. I think anyone who is waiting for W.A.R will agree, they would trade a daoc pre toa type of pvp experiance with only 500 people online playing.... against playing on a server in wow with 5000 people online and 90% of them locked away in instances and you will never see them. Its fun to run around and look to wage war on a rival gang (guild) keep score, take their keeps and burn their flag. Then when they beat you , you get upset, dust yourselves off, buff back up and go out to hunt them again... where as in wow when you lose to someone, you will prob never see them again and to stop from getting another loss all you have to do is spend more time inside an instanced dungeon farming loot insted of changing your attack plan.

That tactic wont work in W.A.R. Its play better, or stay home type of game. Thats more suited for myself and my friends so i couldnt ask for more.

I stopped reading right there. Buff bot and crowd control is "exactly" what kills PvP. So if you think PvP won't be good because they don't implement those concepts, be my guess and go play MMO's where you are mesmerize for a minute and stunned for 10 seconds, dying without even being able to do anything...

What deserves to be done, deserves to be "well" done...

I might be picky, but thats just wrong. Not just because DPS is a well known term in most MMOs. A common term for casters and light tanks in DAoC was DPS classes. I understand that you dont like WoW (I dont either) but trying to turn anything about wow into a negative thing is stupid.

^^

I do not feel that will be the target audience at all. I think it will be more of a DAOC and a big draw from the older Table top and RP Warhammer players.
