Well everybody knows morrowind and oblivion by now .

I know they mostly focus on solo games.

But they know how to build a big open world, like in mmorpgs, there famous for it.

So would they be good enough to make a great mmorpg?

Or should they just stay at what they do best making great solo games like morrowind/oblivion?

Waiting for Guildwars 2 - played:AC-Darktide,AC2-Darktide,L2 and Darkfall.Solo Fav games:Morrowind, Skyrim, Bioshock, Age of Empires 2, Soldiers of fortune 2 and many more...

Probably not.  Not because they wouldn't fashion a great game, but I don't think they have the experience yet.  There are many things with Bathesda games that they would have to take into consideration for an mmo.  Such as System Reqs. and bandwidth.  If they tried to make Oblivion into an MMO, the System Reqs would be monsterous on the 2-4 GB ram range.  Also the bandwidth consumption of fluid twitch combat would be costly.

yes ok besides that.

I liked morrowind alot ,and the way you devolop your character, open world freedom and its tailor made also for a great pvp enviroment.

Oblivion was great to look at but the teleporting was to much and they maked it to simple but it have potential to become a mmorpg.

It is tailor made for a great solo experience.  Those games also would lose a lot of interest because many parts of the game would have to be changed.

For example:

  • No killing shop NPCs for items
  • No more stealing from houses
  • No quests that changed the course of events in the game
  • No stashing items for later in chests

Also, I agree with the thought behind twitch combat and how horrible lag is.  One of the reasons games like WoW succeed is because there is a lot that can be overcome even with some lag.

The good idea would be to allow people to make servers, much like Baulder's Gate.  It was really fun to have a group do missions in that game.  More of an Online RPG, not totally MMO

The Bethesda team loves to make solo RPG's and they do a magnificent job in every aspect. I'm pretty sure I read once that would rather stick to the solo which would lead me to believe that an MMO from them would never happen. But if they'd rather stick to that then its fine by me cause I extremely enjoyed Both Morrowind and Oblivion.
Perhaps though if they felt like taking a step towards producing an MMO they could be the production team for the landscape. And rockin' landscape it would be.

bleh great games nope atleast that goes for oblivion...

also why do people keep bringing up WoW get over it its boring...you can just afk kill a boss with some

other people and the attacks are also very lame and dont come with : why do so many people play it then?

Since thats no excuse wether something is a great game or not

Well when i was playing morrowind i already thought many with me would be nice if you could play with some friends in this game:)

But ok maybe oblivion is not right for mmo but i say they have talent inhouse to make a mmo:)

Was just a idea becouse look at bioware.

Maybe they dont have the exp to make a good mmo, but i would like to see the art directors, modellers and texturing team from bethesda teaming up on an mmo project.

A simple truth-"What people want and what is good for an mmo is not always the same thing"-mrw0lf

I'd say no, not because I think they couldn't create an MMORPG game, but rather because atm they are one of the best (and few) firms focusing on the single player RPG market, and they should stick with what they are really good at.

Also, they would bring us yet another fantasy based RPG...and I'm not sure we need more companies traveling down the same path as so many others...

Well, I would think that the team at Bethesda would produce a halfway decent world for an MMORPG. It wouldn't necessarily have to be fantasy based... just because their most valuable property is the world of the Elder Scrolls doesn't necessarily mean that they don't have the creativity in-house to do something post-apocalyptic, science fiction or perhaps even urban fantasy style.

I'd agree with one of the above posters in that I'd love to see their art team work on an MMO project. They have a real sense of style.

I played Morrowind and enjoyed it a lot. It still remains one of the best single player RPGs for me. I was eagerly awaiting Oblivion, but my graphics card simply couldn't run the game - time for upgrade I guess. AFAIK  Bethesda repeatedly declared that they are not interested in making a MMORPG or any multi-player game. May be they've changed their mind, I don't know, but I think they are completely unsuited for the task. They make nearly perfect single player games, so it doesn't make sense for them to risk it on already saturated MMORPG market. Besides that, Oblivion with its current tech requirements would only create an abysmal lagfest for those select ppl who's PC were actually able to launch a MMORPG like that without crashing.

Their RPGs already suck so imagine an MMO.

depends if they got anything original to add to the mmorpg genre. When all these mmorpg releases come out soon the genre is going to be saturated but also players will be demanding a lot more to shift them from their chosen or preferred mmorpg.

Well, my opinion about Oblivion (and to lesser extent, about Morrowind) is similar to rpgcodex's review: http://www.rpgcodex.com/content.php?id=129 . Which is imo one of the very, very few honest reviews of that game, imo.

Mmorpg made by betheseda ? Well, better not, all things considered.... There's already enough junk in that department. No need for another "nextgen", "immersive" "spiritual successor".
