As i stated in a previous thread my old system was a

AMD64 x2 4200

2x 7900 gtx

2x gigs of pc2700 ram

With this system i was getting 30 to 40 fps outside and around 10 in cities with alot of hitching.  So no because of this game i decided to upgrade my comp.  Wanted to switch from amd to intel and go dx10 anyways.  My new system is as of follows

Intel Core 2 Extreme Processor QX6700 Quad core

EVGA nForce 680I Sli motherboard

4 gigs of DDR2 800mhz pc6400 ram(Soon to be 8 gig as store had only 1 in stock at time of purchase)

BFG 8800GTX  768 (Will go sli again eventually but not needed right now)

2x sata2.0 harddrives in raid0 configuration

7.1 surround sound.

With this new system i've effectively doubled, sometimes tripled my fps in areas, before i was getting 30 to 40 outside now i'm getting 80 to 80 fps outside,  before in towns and crowded areas i was around 10 fps, now i'm averaging 30 to 35 fps in those same areas.  The BUT comes in while performance fps wise is great in most areas the occasional hitching still happens quite frequently when people are around even though i'm at 40 fps.  This has to be network latency are coding issues on sigils end.  As sigil adds multithreading and sli support this will only get better as well as nvidia's drivers aging will help to.  Forgot to mention i run this on Windows Vista 64bit edition.

While i would not recommend people going out and buying the latest in hardware but if you have the money to spend the performance does improve.  Hitching still is there though as i said this cant be a user end issue.

Hey,

Thanks for this post. I am currently having horrendous fps problems with my rig the way it stands today and am going to upgrade most likely in a very similar way to the way you did.
I do have two questions though:
Did you ever consider going PhysX as well?
and
How does Vista improve performance?

Vanguard truly is a breath of fresh air isn't it?
Regards

SOE- Dangling carrots since 1999.

Thats a simular rig setup I am saving for. Isn't 8 gigs of ram going to bottle neck?

Also, I hear that Vista 64 bit is a must for a gaming rig. How is it for you?

What case are you using? I need to know what fits that setup best. I forgot the name of the one I wanted but someone said there is a problem in cable lenth.

that is true for everything, upgradeing will give you more performance in everything you do. Yes it requires a much bettr puter in the first place just saying thats not an answer

no i never really gave thought to Physx as far as vista performance i'm not to sure yet as i've only had it running for a few days now, but i do notice a pretty noticable difference as far as load times go with vista but other than i can't realy say

Right now I like vista but i can't say to much on performance of vista 64.  Have it ran it long enough to pay attention to yet.

On a side note, with this new setup i've now gotten the hitching to almost completly be non existant even in crowded areas, at least with my system seems the AF was the cause of most of it.  Thats either a driver issue are coding on sigils part.  I'd probably say both as AF was really just implemented right around launch, atleast implemented where it worked and of course nvidia 8800 vista drivers are in its infancy period.  But turning AF off, hitching is mostly gone and no real noticeable difference in quality on my end

You didn't say what case you have. I'm trying to avoid the one where I need a 90 dgree cable. Forgot the name of the case and the name of the website I read it at. I'm trying to avoid buy that particular case.

As far as cases go, the one i'm using is a customized H&B midtower with a motorized front bezel, led temp display etc.etc.  With a midtower it kind of cramped inside and a bit hard to work in but temperatures stay on the low side with the 6 case fans.  If I had to buy anothing case i'd probably go with a full tower if only just for the extra room to work with.
