I picked up Vanguard yesterday. Well, I am really not that impressed with the graphics. Granted I only have 1 gig of ram and a GEForce 7600 GT. My system is a P4, 3.2. I have a 24 inch Gateway HD, wide screen at 1920x1200 (I think) I get a lot of slow down and cant figure it out. I play EQ2 with settings fairly high and that game is beautiful, plus it runs smooth. The graphics in this game are mediocre. When I turned everything up and sat still, it still didnt impress me. Question is, Why the extreme need for a beefed up system when the graphics are not as good as EQ2? |

Sigils answer to everyting... "can you bumpmap that?" |
Many agree, why do we need the lastest gfx cards for a game that looks very average and like everything had been coated in plastic? ofc that is IMHO of the gfx... me no like.

I didn't like the graphics either, but seems most people think they are just awsome, so, ok.
BTW I have a new card and tried the game at highest quality, despite the low FPS just to see how the game looked at it's best. BTW2 At balanced what they did to the trees is simply horrible, how they substitute the tree by a sprite, it's the worst thing I've seen in a supposedly high budget MMORPG. |

with about the same pc config as the OP, i can only run it with normal FPS in highest performance (with some additional settings) (1280x1024 i choose, cuz i dont like the large icons) , what they did with the trees compared to balanced is something i wouldnt call quality. |

I played Vanguard beta , and was really disapointed with graphic. I must give them credit for two things though. 1.Some of the arhitecture designs are quite good --- 3. Trees look good - But than again it is SpeedTree TM developed by other company and used in all new games. All in all I see there was some good artists involved but incredibly poor execution.
When I look at WoW (grant that not everyone likes cartoony style of graphic...but if you do) It is so masterfully executed. To bad Vanguard didnt take a cue from them |

I play maybe 2-3 hrs a night and a few on the weekend. Just want to find one to keep my interest. This one lags a little too much for me to play it. I hope they fix it. |

Then what is it that I see in this game that you dont see. Check out these screenshots I did yesterday. This is not cracnked up to take a sweet picture. This is what I play with. Tell me this isnt better looking than EQ2 with its 2D trees and horrible flora. In Vanguard trees and grass sways in the wind and when I run through a small forest, thats like holy shit this is tranquility.

EQ2 flora moves when you walk through them too. I guess my biggest beef is that it stutters too much. I have a P4, 3.2, 1 gig of ram and a GEForce 7600 GT, running a 24" Gateway HD monitor at 1900 X 1200. Seems to me it shouldnt stutter like that. |

I am playing VG with all the settings maxed out (with everything in vgclient.ini also maxed out) and anisotropic 16x. I have also been playing EQ2 with all the settings maxed out.
I'm using a Core2Duo@3Ghz, 2 GB ram an an ati x1900xt-512. On this system, VG looks better than EQ2. But I guess it depends on where you are playing. Of course the desertic Qalia is much more plain than the lush Antonica, there is nothing to compare there (I don't play in Qalia, I don't like the environment there). But if you go to Thestra, or even better Kojan, wow. For me, VG is the most complete and the best looking MMO to date. I am now in Kojan. There are still some rocks with some ugly textures. They look like placeholders leftovers from beta. I am sure they will iron these few things out so the game will be much more polished in a few weeks/months. |
