I'm a pretty hardcore scifi type guy and love startrek. I'm currently playing eve (wich i will continue to play even if i pickup this game when it comes oout)
anyway I'm wondering if this game will have signifigant risk. I mean if i die will there be a signifigant loss besides EXP. this is one of my biggest concerns with picking up a new game. I personaly perfer to have my games involve large ammounts of risk. my only other concern is will it have open PVP and will it encourage PVP |

I hope it doesn't have huge risk like Eve, as that is what turned me off Eve to be honest.

There has been a lot of talk in the past about STO having perma-death and this would be a HUGE mistake for the developers to make. All this would do is make this game a hardcore only club and they would have people leaving in droves as the majority of gamers play for enjoyment not to be frustrated into quitting. This is a game after all and should be made to be enjoyable for all. Bren while(horse==dead) |

It's really waaaay tooo early to ask any of these questions as all answers will be nothing more than speculation. The game is so far away, having a section for it on MMORPG.com is almost just a 'formality'. From the very little we've seen, the game is looking good... but for what we know? Well we don't really know jack-sh1t so... we can all just hope.

There will be PvP, so much has been confirmed. Currently Perpetual seems to be playing for the general audience, freedom to play the game how you want seems to have an important role. Because of this I do not think there will be any big penalties or open PvP. |

Have you actually watched any of the shows?... at all? The penalty will be time... simply... (btw, I don't think "Death" will be part of the game, only Incapacitation - being sent to sickbay, and waking up a fair amount of time latter) That said, time will be the only penalty, because of your failure to complete your mission or assignment, time would have been wasted, and the task may have been delayed in completion or depending on the circumstances, the task could still be unfinished... From what I can tell, this is going to be very much like the fictional reality of the Star Trek universe... You serve aboard a ship, and everyone on that ship is working together to reach a common goal... If you become incapacitated, you hamper progress towards reaching that goal... You jeopardize the completion of the main Mission that has been assigned to your ship... |

I'm not cool for big risks to be honest. I don't post really here unless I just want to say something and that is it. By the way... all I gotta say... Don't be a Red Shirt and you shall be fine! (Trek Fans know what I'm talking about) |

I don't mind having eve style risk. the problem with eve is it's just sooo boring.

Risk would be kinda pointless besides the obvious exp loss....im wondering more about the way PvP will be done....i mean are the gonna make some people gods while others are peons like most games pvp-wise

I prefer less risk IE you shouldn't loose everything.
I stoped playing Eve because of the risk was too steep. PVP would be nice. |

This is a game after all and should be made to be enjoyable for all. This is an MMO and it should NOT be made enjoyable for all. When you do that you end up with WoW, which may be a fun and pretty game but is a pretty crappy MMO. We need a Star Trek UNIVERSE, not a Star Trek GAME. |

I agree, although the game should be made so that new people would be ineterested in the franchise, it should be based entirely on the Star Trek universe and follow cannon to the best of its ability. Unlike another Sci-Fi MMO game which I refuse to mention at this time.
Cheers. |

An idea for pvp : two or more players agree oocly that they want to fight each other and than they become "Q´d" into the sherwood forest as the sherrif and robin hood, so they can fight there^^
edit: oh and the looser has to suffer one real time hour of small talk with Q, enough reason for not dying, i guess^^ |

I hope the game doesent have exp in the first place. Exp is such a lame system already. Risk should not be able to wipe out more then 10 hours worth of work. Losses shouldnt significtly affect you, and you should be able to get over them in something like 3-5 days. Cause new MMORPG players who lose a huge amount upon dying will slaughter the rating on a game.
For example, a captain worked for 50 days to earn enough prestige to be issuied a sovereing. If the sovern is blown, he shouldnt be able to get ahold of another for a week or so. I see details in games. Woohoo for me. |

I think there always should be a certain amount of risk involved. I thought SWG in the beginning, where someone else could loot your dead corpse before your clone could go reclaim your goods was a little extreme. The risk of loosing xp like with the jedi was good in my opinion. I remember being real careful not getting myself on BH terminals until I was able to properly defend myself. Not only should there be loss, but there should be huge gains as well.
