I'm thinking of jumping back into guild wars... especialy considering the latest expansion.
Was just wondering, how many people play it these days, as it does not register on the mmorpg chart. Cheers, Ginetti. ---- |

I play Guild Wars and I buy every expansion because I believe in what the Devs are doing. Solo all you want, Group all want, NO Raiding! You can solo or group for the best gear in the game. Oh, did I say No Raiding! :)
It's two major shortcomings are those invisible walls which has been addressed by the expansions somewhat and it not having a whole world persistency, persistency exist in towns though. If you solo a lot, zones will feel empty like a single player rpg. Spiritglow |

so how do you solo? from what i've read (at least early on after release) the little helpers you take with you are worthless - unlike early beta when they were pretty tough i really enjoyed the game until they nerfed the NPC helpers - what the heck is the name for them? |

For some reason I can't reply with quotes but here is my reply.
They are called henchmen and yes they had limited AI so you had to adapt and be flexible to what they were capable of in a fight. No big problem, you as a human are adaptable and flexible to circumstances? Right? Now flash forward to Guild Wars: Nightfall (a new expansion) and you now have controllable henchmen aka (Heroes). Yep that's right, controllable henchmen err Hereos. You control their placement and spells and more. What other online rpg allows you to have and control your own computer generated party? Plus it's just not given to you, you have to Earn your Heroes. Yep, can you say EARN? Spiritglow |

Originally posted by gatheris No, they actually weren't bad--I played through GW the year of its initial release, and did pretty much everything with Henches. I've heard good things about the new Heroes, but I didn't like Factions much and don't really feel like getting back into the game just so I can skill and armor up a bunch of characters, rather than just one. |

Went through Prophecies and Factions with Henchies only. Didn't have a problem at all. The only time I grouped was Pre-Searing in Prophecies one time to open the gate so I could grind outside the wall. I can't speak on Heroes as I only played NF during the preview event but if they are smarter than Henchies and can be controlled then I imagine that they are better than 90% of the potential people you would end up grouping with.

You can't really "jump back" into Guild Wars, in the sense that you do with other online games.
What I mean is, you bought the game, you can play or not play as much as you want, but the game will always allow you to log back in forever. No subscription or monthly fees. To "jump back" into WoW or EQ, you have to re-activate your subscription and start forking out money again. To "jump back" into GW, you simply double-click the icon. |

I'm still playing but I don't really like the single player feeling at all since I don't party, I just use henchmen but they are usually way below my level and very unintelligent

Amazing, GW topic and no one has even started argue about that GW is not mmorpg in their opinion. I am almost disappointed.

I've been playing since the first BWE.. still addicted.. If you want to 'jump back in' .. create a new character and get Nightfall... it's a well put together campaign, be aware the community is hit or miss as far as forming groups for missions/quests.. they did add a party search function that makes it easier, but I haven't seen people using it that much. I suggest you come back for the PVP aspects.. find a guild that is active with PVP.. there will be new Hero's ascent changes coming up possibly.. this weekend offers a triple green drop rate increase.. there's always weekend events that create more interest.. Feel free to contact me in-game 'Iris Qbela' Enjoy! |

Well I have all 3 GW's games. 10 characters for each profession. I'm going to continue to follow this franchise because of its unique and inviting way of looking at an MMO. It caters to players who play often as well as those who play in their leisure. And jumping back in should be no problem I really enjoy the hero system in Nightfall.
