Now to see how all the features work in this game, the rotating skill bar will make play interesting.

A fresh look at interfaces is long overdue in MMO's. Again this is another thing the VSoH team had the opportunity to revolutionise and yet they opted for an even less flexible version of the current and fairly tired hotkey bar system. Surely it can be done far better, Im looking forward to seeing how CoS handles it. +-+-+-+-+-+ |

Wow, nice. I had read a bit about this game a while back and thought it might be interesting. After looking around the official site and some fansites I'm really impressed.
Why isn't this game hyped like the others? While everyone is talking about VSoH, AoC, and Warhammer. This could very well be the next big thing. But then again, maybe less hype will prove to be a better thing? |

Hype can kill a game as quickly as it can build one up. Look at VG: SoH. It's not really a bad game as far as EQ clone standards and could have stood as just another alternative to EQ. However, the devs and the fanboi's all screamed to anyone who would listen how Vanguard was going to be a "next gen" mmo (it isn't), it was going to be aimed at the hardcore crowd (it isn't), it was going to bring new innovation as far as class handling and gameplay (it didn't). So, a large majority of players who might have subscribed won't, because the game is not what Sigil and the "Vanboi's" said it would be. Some of those same "Vanboi's" are canceling pre-orders because they aren't getting the game that they themselves hyped would be forthcoming because they listened to yet another developer who said whatever the current person in front of them wanted to hear.
I think TCoS has a chance to bring innovation and fun back into the genre. A low amount of hype can be a good thing, as there are very little pre-conceived notions of what the game will be like, thus less disappointment when it comes out. It also gives the devs a chance to get the game in shape so that when it is released to the public, it can be in a much more polished and smooth state, as they won't be having to spend a large amount of time having to make constant changes to evolve with the current "professional armchair devs" (also known as the general mmo community) ideas on how the game should be this week. They can do the game the way they want to, the way they intended from the beginning, and use beta testers for what they are meant to be used for: chasing bugs and pointing out broken gameplay. They can also consider suggestions, but not be expected to incorporate each one because of hundreds of idiotic "I won't play if you do/don't do this" people posting on forums. So, in short, a little to no hype until it's ready for the public is just fine by me. Maybe more devs should take that into consideration, instead of letting so-called fanboi's decide what happens over a 4-5 year period. JMHO. |

This may turn out to be a good one also, it keeps slipping of my radar because of the lack of hype but as the posters above stated maybe that is a good thing.

TCoS is sounding good all around. I'm looking very forward to this, though a bit disappointed it is still so far off. But, time will pass. It will arrive.

well, i think the spellborn hype is somewhere out there, but consider the sheer amount of mmos to be released in the upcoming months, not to mention wow:tbc release last week, there are not that many people left that actually look for a new mmo game, or even one that requires skill in battle.
I for once do like the ideas and concepts that the spellborn crew brought up, and i already preordered the game.... but one thing everyone should be aware of: a real hype in the scale of vanguard or WoW would just kill the game. spellborn is more of an fps than a stereotype rpg. the unreal engine is a good one too, but if you get lag, you die. thats the rule of every fps. and thats not only my concern, but also one of all my buddies, that spellborn needs to be lag-free, and the lack of hype only contributes to this :) correct me if i am wrong, but if you want to hit something in spellborn, you need to target the mob with a crosshair and be in range. thats not possible if you play a dia-show. ^^ just my 50 cents. |
