Hey, I just wanted to submit the the greater knowledge of the masses and ask if anyone knows of a MMORPG that has a good crafting system. Now by good crafting system I mean a system that isn't just grinding (though some grinding is exceptable, for it is a MMORPG after all), and one that the crafting actually matters. For example I want a game were I can have a business and people will develop a loyalty, or at least recognize me as a good crafter. Other then that, I'm not to picky on games, whether they are free or not, text based or graphical or what have you. Other games that had decent crafting systems were SWG but unfortantely it tends to be repeditious grinding and DaoC though I eventually got bored of that. So if anyone has some suggestions on games to play would be great! Thanks! Strider817 First Post! |

a Major crafting game I know of is Horizons. I don't know about the grinding, I think you can grind in everything. To me grinding is a frame of mind. No game has grinding, it is the player that grinds... However, Horizons has the most advanced crafting I have seen any any MMORPG to date. Other than that I understand UO has a more intricate crafting system, but nothing like Horizons. In Horizons you actaully cut down the tree, chip out the metal ore and carve, cut, whittle every little aspect. However, the game is still in it's infancy state so you won't see much diversity in armor, weapons and items until the player base tells the dev what to do.

I have played horizons and play UO. And about the crafting systems Horizons beat uo only in that aspect that trees you chop really fall down. But grow again in another place... But main thing about Horizons is that its Grinding its REALLY painfull to craft and gain levels in it. and thats the basic idea if you want to make anything. With certain level you make things for players that have the same level chars. In UO crafting is much rewarding and as its not a level based game its much more fun. But in UO they introduced artifacts that are much better than craftable items. Even much better than best of the Runic crafted items with best crafter. So it will soon kill crafter profession in UO. So neither game is right for you I think. Maybe UO if you find pre Age of Shadows Shard. =) But Neocron seems to have quite sensible crafting system.its level based game but crafting and leveling is not so painfull. And its cyberpunk game and has a lack of players. So actually I have the same problem =(.

From my understand of Hz it's the only thing they have working well? "A tale in the desert" doesn't have much grinding. You might take a look at that. -=-=-=-=- Bartle: A: 93% E: 55% S:3% K: 50% The Test. Learn what it means here. |

Freeworld is a game where u can craft all you want. There are even ways to build your own shops and have a NPC run the shop for you while your offline or busy. You can never kill a monster the whole time and still be the highest level character in the game. I like my characters to be more skilled in fighting but moderate at crafting. Freeworld has a town set up called barter town where people come to sell/buy crafted items. The beta's open so you can sign up if u like. I'm really excited for this game.

The enemy is so dumb! They believe that WE are the enemy! - A famous orc commander. |
Don't Sims online outshine everyone on the crafting? Not that it is my type of game anyway, but maybe someone more enlightened then me could share the info on you.
Now, if you look a game with: crafting + adventuring...*shrug*
Try SWG maybe...or Horizons, anyway, not my interest in those games so as long as I dont need to craft to adventure, I dont give it much thoughts, yet, if bored, who know, I might play the crafting side of the game some times before I grow very bored with it...
And...dont be shy, baking taste a lot better in a kitchen then on the computer!!! I mean, if I am going to make a cake or any food, I want to eat it! :) Work vs reward concept here! :)
Honestly, I dont get it, if someone want to craft, why play a game and not doing it in RL? *shrug* Unless for some reasons they cant do it in RL, but... No no, I wont become a mass murderer in RL, dont even suggest that I go XP in the streets or sewers of NYC... *grin*
I can assure you, I make a very poor blacksmith and I would not wear any armor I make in RL, anyway, they are unsafe and dangerous for the wearer to start with...
