I agree on most of that. I have never really played WoW for that long, but how I take it is that people like the first bit of it becuase PvE is amazing and such. But then after you reach lvl 60 and get the best gear (which doesn't take to long) it gets boring. That is not a good thing and I think that is a big reason why people don't like WoW very much.

from a pvp aspect wow was a joke, to many procs, chance on hit, and way to good of gear for any skill that game required to go out the door. back before the honor system and BG's came out and gear were blues and pvp wasn't a grind it was fun, took some skill to the game and  to be successful in pvp, after BWL came out the game diminshed into a joke for anyone who plays it for pvp. you don't win, the system generated procs and all the time you spent slaving in 40 man raids is what wins in pvp in that game. it requires 0 skill to know what your doing, i let my 9 year old nephew hop on character in tier 1 and he was running around killing people in AB and WSG just because he would get lucky on crits/ procs and what not.  keep in mind this is a 9 year old kid who never took his own character past level 15.

the pve aspect of it is done well, except for the 40 man raids, good to hear there lowering it.

i feel sad for anyone who thinks wow is a great pvp game though, because your obviously been limited to your mmo's pvp expeirence to see what great pvp mmorpgs are all about.

the community in wow is childish also, you can say every game has its bad apples, but in wow the bad apples outnumber the good ones by alot.

world of warcraft makes mmorpg stand for its every meaning also

many men online role playing girls.

I  honestly didn't enjoy WoW

I got my fill of killing monsters with swords and spells eons ago.  WoW's game mechanics aren't anything new.  They're just old ideas polished up and put in a nice interface.

I hate it's graphics.  Not that they're bad graphics but I have always hated the Warhammer graphics.  Which Warcraft stole, and WoW used as well.  I detest the graphics style in woW... it's far too cartoonish for me.

I hate the gameplay which does not encourage grouping at all until you are 60.  Sure you CAN group but there's no point.  You can advance faster solo.  While I like to solo when I don't have time to group I do not like a game that doesn't encourage group play.  I PREFER group play to solo play.

I hate the PVP.  It's cookie cutter PVP at best with no point whatsoever.  I tried wow... I tried to like WoW.  I played it long enough to determine it wasn't for me.

So I call BS on your statement above.  I am an MMO Player... been playing MMO's before they were called MMO's.  Hell I played the very first multiplayer games way back in the BBS world.  Played (and helped write several) MUDS, played MPBT on GENie, played NWN on AOL, played M59, played UO, EQ, DAOC, AO, AC, etc etc etc.

I didn't like WoW.  Sorry I just didn't.  I found it shallow and boring.

BUT:
It *is* a good game.  For those who enjoy it it's a great game.  As can be attested by the sheer number of people who play it.

Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

I have to agree UO was a better game for its time. Yes its graphics are outdated now, but there was more depth, in story, crafting, and especially PvP.  A friend got me to try WoW because he was this PvP gamer,  one day I watched him he just stood there. I was used to UO having to dart in and try to time your swings, it was interactive.

I have tried UO, EQ, WoW, almost all SoEs games, City of Heroes/Villans and numerous betas trying to get the same rush and community I had with UO. EVE is the closest,  you can build stations (cities in other games) and have them blown up or taken away from you. You get pounced on by a gang and the rush of adrenaline you get when you realize there is no avatar reset and you will lose all the gear you have worked for a month to acquire if you don't outrun/outsmart/outfight them is awesome.  With WoW if you are not level 60 in a month your just a worthless noob. Since I like not to be chained to my computer all the time and go to "outside" everyonce in a while and also see my girlfriend it would be nice if more games made more of skill so that I didn't get ganked by 8 year olds all the time.

For me WoW has the BEST PvP in terms of speed and action, not so in terms of achievment or advancement.

Ive played GW which most consider the daddy of PvP, I find this hard to understand as the PvP was very restrictive, you could not jump of a building or hide behind something to surprise your foe I just felt glued to the floor and using the enviroment to aid you was a no-show.

I do like the system GW uses in that you can only take 8 spells into a fight, thats a nice feature to promotes teamwork when arranging your team.

As to WoW being a kiddies game, 1 its not true, log in after 9pm when the kiddies are in bed and servers are still jam packed with players. 2 if WoW did not go with the art style they did and more with an EQ2/DDO style there would not be so many "this is a kiddies game" comments.  For me I love the art style of WoW and hate the realisitic sytle of EQ2/VG, GW was a happy medium though.

The Art style blizz chose means system requierments are low and they can make some wakey enviroments, animations are top notch in WoW.

WRONG
The STYLE has nothing to do with system requirements.  EQ1 has even LOWER system requirements than WoW but I like it's graphics STYLE far more.  ( don't play it anymore though).  DAOC has LOWER system requirements than woW but I like it's graphics STYLE more.

What Blizzard did that keeps it's requirements low is kept the poly count low and the texture detail lower.  THAT is what makes it perform well on older system.  And it has nothing to do with graphics STYLE.

Sorry for the rant but I hate when terminology is mis-used to try to make up for what I find lacking in a game.  WoW's graphics style is cartoonish.  I prefer a more realistic looking world.  One I can immagine walking around in.  When it looks more like a cartoonland than a world it looses too much immersion for me.

Not to mention if I never kill another orc again it'll be too soon :)  MMO's need to get over the fantasy genre for a while.  It's over-done.

As far as PVP?  If you think WoW has the best PVP system I feel bad for you.   And, no, frankly MOST people don't consider guildwars the 'granddaddy of PVP'.  It is better than WoW's though.
