SWG it works ok on a 56K but not horribly bad unless you are on at super-duper peak time. Yes its still has its problems but its a pretty good MMPOG, it should make for a good father son game cause its not horribly violent, and set in a really huge universe, and you could make for the fahter son Jango-Boba thing lol or even a father son empire thing But my true suggestion is not really a MMPOG, Never Winter Nights. Find a server that is always on and you have to create a different character. And go for it, its stable, its always new and there is always something to do, thousands of quest and options. Player driven, RP, D&D what more could you ask for? Hell my friend and his friends run a 100 player server they are trying to push to 200. They keep weekly unpdates going with a long quest system, you have to create a seperate character and they are serious RPers. If you are a thief who is caught stealing from a city that is run by a theifs guild in-game the Mods cut off a finger that lowers your dex permaedtly. Or right now they have this virus going around and you have a item you cand drop that lowers all your stats by -5 and every week that goes up, and if the players dont find a cure they could all likely die NWN = Best online RPg |

I would have to say Ultima Online. I played that with my son when he was that age. We had a lot of fun on it. Immortality is wasted on the young. - Alucard Immortality is wasted on the young. - Alucard |

Cheaper but not better. They're quality is crap, you want quality, pent's are definitely better. You might try City of Heroes, I play that with all 3 of my kids. 8,10 and 14. We have a ball and yes one is on 56k and he doesn't complain about the lag at all. It is really a simple MMO by default. picking you powers and enhancements is as simple as I have seen to date. Even my 8yr old has a pretty crazy time with it, he is lvl 45 now after only 2 months. My 14 yr old has his own Supergroup (Guild) If you want to talk about it let me know. |

The ones that are suggesting playing UO on 56k are stupid as hell. It'll lag like hell if you play it on a 56k modem and will limit how much you can fight. Mustache is a cat |

Keep your eye open For Lord of the rings Online, it will be pretty good for a family type game imho with good solid game play .
I would suggest upgrading your son's connection , it is lmost impssible to play anyy mmo on 56k. I am getting a feeling you and your son are separated and this is your only way of spending time with him, bit the bullet and get his household a cable connection and show your not the bad guy. If I am wrong then you still bite the bullet and buy a high speed connection then setup a lan network in your house that is connected to your outside line. Good luck and happy gaming ! |

I'd recommend City of Heroes also, to be honest. It has a comic book type of setting, but it's very clean as opposed to gritty. This is a generalization, but if your kid is playing on the Cube and GBA, he's probably into games with a little more emphasis on solid, fun gameplay and a little less complexity. That pretty much sums up how CoH relates to other MMORPG's. Also, the action is solid enough to appeal to avid shooter fans (I am one, myself). A nice bonus is the sidekick/exemplar system, if you should decide to play a bit when he's not with you. Basically, if you're doing content your friend is too high or low for, he can become your sidekick (artificially raise his level) or exemplar (artificially lower his level). While somebody is sidekicked, they still gain xp, though the same doesn't apply to exemplars. It might not be friendly to player on 56K, though. Honestly, I have a hard time coming up with any MMORPG that yields an enjoyable experience on non-broadband. You might look for a nice DSL promotion to get him. In my area, for instance, ATT-SBC offers a year-long DSL (1.5Mb down, 378 up) contract with free set-up and less than $10 for a month. If he's in the southwest, check out what SBC can offer him. |

You all do realize that this post is like 3+yrs old? The OP is probably long gone imo, and im sure the orginal circumstances like 56k modem etc.. have likely changed as well?
