They say the first 20 or so levels will be offline and its got a big single player game mixed with MMO elements, but how much MMO? If i wanted a MMO why would i want to play single player? Also how instanced is it too? + Any game that gets ported to consoles sucks tbh. |

They slightly changed it because of feedback from the community... What they intended with the 20 lvs. of Single player stuff is so that the player could create their own background within the game world. Because of the community, now, they're trying to keep it with the same goal. But now, you can team up with people where there are certain "stop/rest points" I believe? You can make a small team and tackle basic instanced quests with other players during the day ... At night however you are back to soloing and doing the main quest to create your own background/lore... Therefore, the real MMO only starts after you've reached 20... |

When you do something right, no one will have known that you''ve done anything at all. |
I think there's a huge difference between dealing with Lucas Arts and a huge (in which I mean currently very popular) IP like Star Wars and dealing with the estate of a deceased author. Conan is a huge IP, but it's not like the Conan movies just came out a few years ago and there's no where near the amount of excitement for Conan media. Or any, for that matter. Besides this game.
I think that Funcom is an extremely well formed organization and that they have their heads in the right place. After reading all the game features on their site, I really think they have the best ideas from most MMORPGs and a great universe to exploit them. I prefer the idea of a dark, chaotic fantasy world devoid of the stereotypical elves, dwarves and pixies. Truth be told, I have read quite a few of the Conan books and enjoyed them immensely. All in all, very interested in this game. |

From what I understand reaching lvl 20 will take a few days game time. This will give you time to learn your character, learn to play and not be overwhelmed from the get-go. AOC's main strength lies in it's "mature" rating.

Those who stand on the shoulders of giants should not complain about the view. |
Bar brawls FTW. I am skeptical about the stated objectives and schedule for this game. The development group looks very competent and clearly has the necessary experience. Against that, they are trying to do things that are very difficult and that others have failed at. Right now, I see lots of promises, typical of game development, but not much real product. If there is going to be a 2007 release, I would have expected beta testing to be rolling along quite aggressively for the last year or so. Single-player-initiation versus noob areas is a big question. I think the single player choice is made for two reasons. First, it may seen as justified because the starting grind and learning the game are usually done solo and, of course, PvE. Second, and more ominous, I think the publishers are concerned about technological issues like lag and server load. Hooking new players before the lag problems in twitch combat become evident may be a marketing strategem (as distinct from strategy |

Its a MMORPG.
Just because it has the first 20 levels solo, while they did say you will be connected to the servers, and you can chat/interact with others at rest points of whatever.
Im fucking pissed today, not sure why. |

Bullets - my only weakness! How did you know? |
See the first 20 levels as a tutorial on how to play the game, and also as advanced character creation. This also means that when you start in the MMO, you'll have a lot more options available to you.
Sieges, which can occur vs other players and Server Spawned towns aren't instanced. Smaller battles in arenas, such as CTF and team deathmatch, is instanced. I don't know about drunken brawl. If this game is what it looks like to be, it's going to be the best Fantasy MMO Imo. |

Think Age of Conan is going to deal with a niche game base that is looking for the innovation like brutal sword play and top of the line animations and world development. Don't think att his point they are going to compete with WoW becuae it would be like apple and oranges. The fighing systems nd character creation is top of the line andwith someone like Funcom beyond the line you know they won't rush into something that they don't feel is going to give a gamer an exceptional game immersion. |
