Like many people, I originally came to these boards looking for information about Vanguard.  I'm disapointed to say that what I found was simply the average MMO complainers getting a jump start on complaining about a game that they haven't even played yet.  For anyone else new to this forum, here's what I've found after about 15 minutes of reading:

#1  People talking like they've played the game.  When you say  "This game sucks" you're implying that you play the game.  How else would you know it sucks if you're not currently in the beta test?

#2  People complaining about SoE.  I know the quote by Brad McQuaid saying that SoE has no control over the game's development has been posted here, probably multiple times.  Yet, for no apparent reason, you still complain.  They're in charge of publishing.  Saying that SoE is destroying the game is like saying the 7th Harry Potter book will be horrible because it's being published and distributed by a certain company.

#3  People just being negative for the hell of it.  They've seen some screens, they've read the limited information about Vanguard, and they've managed to convince themselves that they know this game will bomb.  So, of course, first thing they do is run to this forum to post about their recent discovery.


I'm sorry to say that I generally feel worse about the overall MMO community after reading this forum.  I mean, some of you are grown adults sitting behind your computers and flaming a game that you haven't played.

True true. You coundnt of hit the nail any harder. I have found you just have to read between all the bullshit and come to your own conclusion. Do your own research, and take what people say with a grain of salt. But I sooooooo agree with you on this one people complaing when they havent even played the game. Must be alot of angry peeps out there

Your best bet is to go to the main website then also check out some of the fansites linked from the main site then you will get much better information

I agree with OP- I havent been to this board much mainly for that very reasons you stated.

I am here mainly to pad my rank so I can have a vote on the games I like, instead of leaving it to those that you referenced in the OP

There are some nice sites coming up and one is the new Vanguard Server Community Forum, where those that look forward to Vanguard release are starting to gether and I haven`t seen any haters there yet.

I think the reason for the flame of this game is that SOE is invuled peroid.  wouldnt matter if the devs said SOE was allow to just play the game lol people do not want SOE games any more SOE has proven they hate there customers.  By now every one knows about the SWG drama.

Its not the fact they are only publishing the game  no one wants SOE to  be invulved at all.  sad thing is if SOE chose not to publish they would lose a lot of custmers to the game they really had no choice but to publish this game.  I am willing to bet that SOE paid a pretty penny to publish it. 

Heres a tip that will get you thru life.    Take everys opinion with a grain of salt.   dont base if your gonna try it from anyones opinion.   Pay 5$ to FP get in open beta.  Try it and if you like it play it.   Some people just have had bad expierences with SOE etc that they are pigheaded and dont care what brad says.  

My opinion is vanguard is a game that is going to suceeed.   You can see how awesome the screenshots look,  the devs post about gameplay, the lore, the quest lines, the class/races in the game.      If you dont like the game then hey you only payed 5$ to get in beta and not 50$ to buy the game.

People may hate SOE,  but there cornering the market on MMORPGs,  they are either buying them or publishing them,  In 3 years they will have 10 or more MMORPGs on there Station access plan.  It will be to hard not to deal with them in the future unless you wanna play WOW.     Lookup how many games SOE is involved in atm pre release.   I can name 5 that are NOT out yet.

YEah but on the flip side, you got people like AA who come here and break the NDA just as badly, with there retarded fanboi posts.

Wait for open beta IMO.

Look people lets save the Vanboi mentally for the Sigil forums. Vanguard has the potential to be a good game and I don't think anyone is denying this fact. Yet another fact remains and that is that VG needs a lot of work and I mean a lot of work for it to be ready to ship. Beta 5 is just a PR beta and everyone with a clue knows this very well. The people who get access to the open beta will not be playing testing the game at all. Sorry but that does not happen in open betas. Real beta testing happens before the PR "Open Beta" and before the NDA is dropped.

 Having played beta 4 I know for sure that this game will be marginalized by the shine and polish of WOW's expansion. You may not like the "kiddie graphics", or the non-grinding game play of WOW but the fact remains that Blizzard knows how to put out well polished and ready for release titles for the public to consume. VG is going to have a very harsh and difficult time if it launches at the end of January. People here are just voicing their very valid and real concerns that this game will not live up to the hype when it launches at the end of the month. In the MMO world a bad open beta usually means a bad release. Look no further then DDO, EQ2, DNL, Horizons, etc.... as proven examples of what I am stating. If Brad truly values his "Vision" and his game then he will find a way to prevent it from going into open beta and then release at the end of January. If he is just looking to put out the game quickly so he can then cash out 6 months later and hand it over to SOE then he will more then likely continue on course with the current open beta and release date. Then again it's not like Brad has not done this before in the past..**ahem** Everquest 1 **ahem**.

As for looking for game information. Well if the OP really wanted to find real game information he'd be browsing the FAQ sheet on the Vanguard website for information as they have all you need to know there on that site. People here come to discuss the game good or bad.

Just be patient, and try the open beta.   Rumor has it it will begin thursday.  Could be true, or maybe not, but early january at worst case.

I agree entirely with what you've said here.  Just remember, because it helps me to remember... the amount of negative people who post on these forums at this site is a VERY small percentage of the people who play all the MMORPG's out there.  So what is on these fourms isn't the majority of opinions from all those hundreds of thousands of people (worldwide) who play these games.There are alot of poitive thinkers here and I applaud them.  Those who trash the games they haven't played are a ridiculously small percentage of the people who play MMORPGs.

Although I understand where the original poster is coming from, I kind of see it on the opposite spectrum. Generally I read forums for newer games to get a vibe of whats to come. Although constant negativity can get even the most cheery of us down, is it not a tad worse having everyone around you talking about free pie and lollypops?

Its easy to look at a game you've never played through some screenshots, videos, and "lore" that a company hands down to you, and fill in the blanks/unknowns with perfection, hell its how most romantic relationships begin. However, the sad reality is, this "drought" of games that people talk about has had games coming out, like DNL etc that were going to sweep them into a "epic adventure", casting their deep boredom away, only to flop and leave those followers with bad tastes in their mouthes.

There's actually some accurate critiques from the "negative" side if you look for it, though I suppose only in time will everyone know for themselves how they enjoy the game.

I guess, just be careful of the oasis you wish to find, I hope for you it is not just a mirage.

I never said that I am following the game blindly.  Turd or no turd, you are breaking a legal agreement. I am hoping that the game will be great, but I know it will have it's flaws.
