It never ceases to amaze me the sheer number of whiners in the MMORPG community. Some people have voiced valid concerns or opinions in this thread, concerns like... The reverse motion of the Pegasus, yes it's far too fast and I'll put money on it that is changed before release. Forced end game raid content ruining balance and game experience, I agree with this, Sigil have stated though that there will be top tier items available not only from raiding but from high level crafting (requires gathering of very high quality materials which may be difficult), from quests and from other non raid dungeons. with any luck this should keep those of us who don't want to be forced into 5 hours a night of raiding to avoid being gimped happy. But the whining about the pegasus flight is just unreal, as pointed out by a few people already, it is MYTHICAL, I think they've created a very good representation of a Pegasus, the galloping on thin air is not "GAY" as some people have pointed out, much like all representations of Santa Claus' reindeer galloping on thin air, it is traditional thought of for a Pegasus to fly like that, horses don't fly even with wings, if it were left to evolution a Pegasus of ancient times today would be a white horse with two stubby wings that it has found no use for and as such have virtually disapeared. The Wyrm needs a little work, I think it looks great personaly but others disagree, so maybe they could touch it up somewhat. Someone commented it looked just like EQ2 and that SOE were borrowing a lot from EQ2 and they should admit it, well, you are simply a moron....you've based your entire statement on a tiny Macromedia flash video. Those of us who have been following the game know that the engine is completely different and was developed by Sigil not SOE, it is a heavily modified version of the Unreal 2 engine, SOE joined the party very late. Some of the designers worked on EQ2 for sure, but this game is as similar to EQ2 as it is to WoW, EQ1, AO, SWG and UO. Of course there are similarities between them, Sigil admitted the previous MMO's got a lot right and they saw no reason in not using what already works. It is an awesome game that includes features such as a massive game world, 15 playable classes, 19 seperate races, seperate crafting, diplomacy and adventuring spheres of progression, ship crafting and travel, house crafting and usage, mounts as early as level 8 with modable armour and horse shoes for speed/stability, a plethora of flying mounts at later levels (I think as early as level 40, maybe a little earlier), amasing graphics (to the moron who thinks he's seen better graphics in plenty of Korean games again your basing this pathetic statment on a very small macromedia flash video not designed to show off the graphics, just flying mounts). One final rant to go...almost done. To the person who complained aobut the game size being 18gb, well it's down to 17 and they hope to reduce it again before release, if you think having a game size of 17gb is a problem then you are way behind the times, the gameworld is massive, the graphics (and textures) look fantastic and that takes space, in a world were £40 or $78 will buy you a 250GB HDD you're seriously going to complain about a game taking up 17GB? Games like Medieval 2 :Total War take up 8GB, MS Flight SIm X takes up 15GB, you'd better start getting used to it. Let's have a summary..... The game isn't finished yet, it's developement is progressing at a phenomenal rate and will be released probably sometime in March (Q1 2007 is the official word), if you decide not to play it for one of the petty reasons above you're going to miss out. |

You are welcome to defend this game all you like. I would like to see the game succeed, not because I have any interest in playing it, but because every time a PC game fails it shifts the momentum, if only just a bit, towards consoles. I suspect the game has problems though, for one glaring reason, Microsoft wouldn't let a cash cow slip through their fingers. To cut the game loose this late in development means they didn't see a great potential for it. It certainly won't be a WoW killer and if it hurts any existing game it will be those in the Sony stable. So it's probably a good move on Sony's part to hook up with Sigil. Oh, and I've head nothing nice from anyone claiming to be in the Beta tests (they could just be haters though, who would know for sure)

I would have liked to see the wyrm as a playerclass much like horizons did with mounts rather than a mount.

I dont know if you remember the initial flying mount video presented after e3. If you compare this video to the previous one then you will notice that the criticisms of the first video, stiff wings in particular adn poor animation has been significantly improved. I think the wyrm video demonstrates a new direction in animation quality. The pegasus does not look as far along as the wyrm in terms of animation. I think they have overcome the hard part and now just have to do minor tweaks to make the wyrm perfect. The pegasus looks far more early on in development and shares many qualities with the older animations seen in the previous circa E3 videos

Yeah dude. But check SOE animation at the start. Now that's a smooth running animation. And now fastforward and check the in-game video. Poor, very poor. Every time I read your post, I die a little inside...

Second, if they lack the integrity and honesty to stick to the NDA what makes you think they will be honest and true about the state of the game itself. I personally wouldn't believe a thing they'd have to say since they probably aren't really in the beta in the first place. I for one am waiting for the game to come out before I say good or bad about it simply because I have never played it. I am looking forward to seeing what it becomes... i still have my fingers crossed but the videos that are released really are for purposes of advertising but they don't seem exactly top notch - and they really should be

Whining or not people are entitled to their comments, be it positive or not. What kind of beta test would you have if all you ever heard were positive kiss ass comments. All the VG fanbois are grouping here now to try to drum up more subs, the games probably already in trouble with lacking preorders, I imagine a small minute fraction of WOW's numbers. Just my thoughts, the game is in trouble becuase it lacks a new look, it reminds me of EQ2 very wooden. But hey some people may go for that look, just not me, or any friends I have that play mmo's. The big SOE graphic spells doom for the game in my book, nothing refreshing or new about this one unfortunately, becuase I was really looking forward to VG. Looks like a solid pass. |

Personally I think Vanguard's graphics look a lot more colorful and artistic than EQ2's. Yes EQ2's realism was one of the biggest complaints in the past 2 years, even from those that actively play EQ2. SOE even acknowledged the game lacked color and immersion sometimes, that's why they released Faydwer expansion, which added a lot of colorful zones. But even comparing to that, I still think Vanguard's graphics are a lot more artistic and immersive. For that alone, and the obvious fact that Vanguard has no zones while EQ2 is all about zones & instances, I think it's quite unfair to say Vanguard is like EQ2 because it isn't. I've played EQ2 twice, once pre-PvP servers and once after PvP servers came out. I honestly have not seen graphics in EQ2 anywhere close to what I've seen in Vanguard so far. You can tell Vanguard is trying to make their game more fantasy like instead of more real-life like. So I don't know what the big deal is when people keep on saying "oh vanguard is just like EQ2"...it really isn't heh. But like you said, people can have their opinions, so you have yours, I got mine. My suggestion to everybody, including my suggestion to players asking if they should play WoW when I was actively playing WoW, is to simply give it a try and see if the game fits you. Because you can see all the reviews, but you just never know what might fit you. Like movies, I would've missed a lot of good movies that *i* like if all I do is listen to Ebert & Roeper's reviews. In my opinion Microsoft has never made a decent game, and the game companys they buy up all go downhill very fast. Is Vanguard in trouble? I'm guessing we'll find out sometime after launch. Untill that happens I'm not sure how anyone can have real strong oppinions about an unreleased game. I'd like it to be a good game, but I won't buy it till after I've read a few good reviews in the spring. summer? next fall maybe? |

I think the flying mounts look great and cannot wait to try this game.. The graphic's do have some familiarity to EQ2, but there does seem to be more color in the game, than EQ2 had to offer.. Wether or not the graphic's are similar to EQ2 or not, I don't believe that is the real selling point of VG.. I'm looking forward to it because of things like these mounts, homes, ships, land mass.. I'm hoping that this game is not a game that the average WoW mentality player would be interested in..
I do think that the Wyrm video looks like the rider is gonna get shook off.. Looks like it would be tuff to ride the wyrm w/ all that movement on the body.. I like the leg movements on the pegasus while in flight.. Chock it up to all the old movies I saw as a child but in every one the pegasus seemed to keep moving his legs like he is running on ground.. Kinda what I expected..
Cannot Wait for VGoS.. |

both video's look great. I hope that flying mounts will not be a high level only type of thing. Might have to give this game a 30 day trial shot to see if it is worth it. |
