I just read mmorpg.com Revelations 1 preview.
And i really loved it !
Zoom out to star map - Just like in ELITE 2 ! Awsome! My questions are following: They said bookmarks will be nerfed in some way. How will that work? And other far more important question. They say NEW PLAYERS will somehow get some kind of boost that will alow them to get into the game more easily and be more viable... Can you explain what will that be exactly ?
And finnaly...when is Revelations 1 release date ? "Before this battle is over all the world will know that few...stood against many." - King Leonidas |

From what i have heard so far, they are introducing a warp to '0' option on the warp menu, so there will be no need to bookmark locations as you can go straight to gates etc without them. As far as making new players more useful, i can only imagine that they will be given a wider range of initial skills on creation and possibly higher stats, but that is pure speculation on my part. It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays. |

I can only comment on what it is like on the public test server as of the last patch. CCP likes to keep certain features and changes secret for a while, so we'll see how it turns out.
-The "Warp to X Distance" options have changed for all warp-able destinations. The minimum distance is now 0km. -While on autopilot, you are still warped to within only 15km of stargates. This cannot be changed. -Bookmarks cannot be made (I didn't test this myself, just heard about it. This is probably a temporary issue, either for testing the database or from a broken restriction that prevents you from making BMs near stations and gates. On a side note, BMs are visible on the new 3D solar-system map!).
-All bookmarks within 40km of stations and gates will be automatically deleted on patch day. -Interdictor class ships may be allowed to deploy their Interdiction Spheres in low-sec-space. Right now they only work in zero-zero-space. -Possible other additions to the warping/scrambling system (just rumors).
The character creation system has been completely redone, structure wise and graphically. It is a lot more streamlined. Each stage gives you a detailed explanations of what you are choosing and the benefits of each option. The same 4 races (and 3 bloodlines each) are still the same as far as attributes go, but the rest of the options have been reorganized. -You now get about 8 basic racial skills upon selecting a Race (before, you didn't get them until selecting a Bloodline, and you got a lot less of them). -Choosing your Bloodline and Ancestry still gives you the same Attribute combinations as you get currently. You still don't acquire any skills here. -You still get 5 Attribute Points to distribute with the same restrictions (no more than 3 per Attribute, must use them all). -The old Education selection has been scrapped for a much easier to follow Career system. To a new EVE player the choices might sound more like "classes", however they are not, they are still just advanced skill options. -Every race has 3 general career paths (Industry, Business, and Military), each one taking after the original ingame Newbie Schools. Each Career selection gives you a nicely rounded set of about 15 skills pertinent to the career area and biased towards your race. Most skills add +2 or +3 levels onto of your current skill set, whereas before you would get around only +1 or +2 levels at this stage. Each choice also gets you two Learning skills at +2 levels, the types being the primary attributes that most of your career skills use. -The next step is now Specialization selection. For each career type (same 3 types for all races, different skills though of course) there are two specializations. Each one gives you about 10 more skills that are a more focused set. Most skills will have levels of +2, +3, and even some +4s. Each Specialization will also give you another +2 levels to one of the Learning skills you acquired in the Career selection. -After completing character creation, each player will have around 805000 Skill Points (with 2 skills maxed at level 5), 45 Attribute Points, and about 25 unique skills - many of them advanced skills. In comparison, today's characters will start with around 10000 Skill Points (maybe one level 5 skill with the new bloodlines), 40 Attribute Points, and only about 15 basic skills. -As far as I can tell, the character portrait options are still the same. That part of character creation has been moved to the last step, however, to get all the juicy new choices up to the front. -I also believe the starting ISK amount has been increased, but I can't remember any real numbers right now.
Myself, I am in the process of designing a table that details all of the possible character combinations of skills and attributes. I'll see about posting it when I'm done. //insert sig here |

New Character Creation in a Nutshell: roughly 800k skill points // currently equivilant to a 4-5 week character. Many skills given at creation // reduces many difficulties for new players A learning skill or two // I know at least 1 learning skill is given at creation which increases your attributes thus allowing for faster learning of the appropriate skill More cohesive and intuitive character creation *note Do not let this cause you to wait till it's live before starting. EVE is *not* about skill points nearly as much as it's about personal decisiveness and your personall aquisition of assets in game. Not to mention, political contacts with other players are truely the most overlooked asset ingame. p.s. riggins on ships expand upon the allowable fitting dynmics and provide for some impressive "noob" ships. ;) |

The bookmark nerf was inevitable because of the load it places on the server. The replacement appears to be adequate in terms of protecting travelling players while not making them invulnerable, and it seems like things like warp bubbles and spheres are going to play a much larger role, and people will be more vuilnerable to them, especially now that the spheres can be deployed in low sec empire space (ie, they're now going to be pirate gear).
On balance, it seems like the anti-instas lobby lost, and got thrown the "sop" of being able to use spheres in a broader area of space. I think that if CCP had *truly* nerfed instas (ie, by duimping everyone 15km away from a gate on each jump), much of the playerbase would have quit, because ganking and sniping would be virtually impossible to avoid, whereas under the revised system, players have a chance to avoid it, and gate campers have a chance to stop players with warp bubbles and spheres. Seems like a balanced solution to me. ---------------------------------------- |

Revelations is slated for release on November 28th. Knowing CCP it will probably be around Dec. 10th.

Uhm. Question:
How many skillpoints would you think my 1month character has (he might be 6weeks, can't remember)? It's been ages since I played. I keep reading the eve forums cause I love the community, but I've not been able to get hooked ingame yet. Mostly due to my local network being awful, but it's much better this now. Anyway. Was thinking of trying it out next month once the update has settled. My one month old main had just enough points to go 0sec pirating with whatever mandatary minimum equipment he would've needed. (Oddly my only death was from messing up near sentry guns.) I never remember their names, but that would be webs and whatever made me move faster ;D I'm sceptical about leaving a build I know I can continue to build on at the favour of a new toon which might need several weeks to get back to where I left off... :/ Opinions, pretty please ^^ Edit: I've no idea how I managed not to catch the contents of the post above mine, but that made this too funny ;D won't edit it out |

Ok here is what i would do if i was in your situation.
1. Note down the skills your current toon has and his/her skill points 2. then check to see what the new charecter creation priocess provides and compare. 3. Whichever seems to suite you best i advise you do. |

Allright, that should work quite well :)
I'm a bit confused regarding the Reveleations articles here and what is included in each of the three parts: Is the ship graphical makeover with Rev I? |
