Hmhm, oceanspirit, where are you?
It may be tha case that, because of the Direct-Download-Servers being situated in France that it´s so slow for you. And another question is, what do you, respectively Vendayn, refere to as "high speed" DSL? For me ist a 6 MB Line. Other´s got a 16 or 21 MB Line. Still others only got 2 MB, or even 1. It all depends on where you live and what your Internet-provider gives you as "high speed". And, don´t judge a gme by the downlaod speed of it´s client. That would be pretty.. well dumb. Don´t you think? Remember you´re just downlaoding the FULL Game client+ the newest expension. Ryzom Ring. So it IS a bit large. Just hang on. I hope it´ll be woth the wait for you. Theres a Ryzom torrent on the website too if you look, its lower down the page. The speed on that is far faster and tends to corrupt less. I guess the main download is slow as there are loads of people downloading the game recently.

I would also reccomend using Bittorrent to download. I got DSL and and it only took about 2 hours or so. Initially i tried downloading from the other link and it was DL'ing at around 20k/s......i switched to the torrent and it jumped up to about 120/kbs.

It's a lot like the Sims in some aspects, if you've ever played that. Except this would be if you could completely control the NPCs. You're given some land types..you can select the season manually or have it follow the "real" game world (same with the weather); however when you choose the season, you're stuck with it that whole scenario whereas with weather you can switch manual/auto at any time during creation and testing. Once you have your land you have a choice of stuff to put down. You have access to a number of NPCs. You have boss triggers, dialogue triggers, act progression triggers, etc. Essentially you get to program (in a more simplified manner I'm sure) what the devs have already programmed in the game world. And when you're ready to launch you can choose who can be allowed in it and whether or not you'll be a player or the "dungeon master" who sits behind the scenes and controls everything.

sooooo where do these player worlds come in?
Are all themaps made by players and all just linked? And you said about boss triggers, does that mean there are no items in the game otherwise you could just go on your on map and farm the boss and get loads of items? Im still 50-50 on whether to play or not. Iv read the long post by the guy on the official forums i think it is. Its the big long one anyways. Although its good it didnt really answer mcuh for me anyway. |

*LOL* Absolutely not 1. there are no Item Drops in Ryzom, only Material Drops. 2. These Mobs drop only the "Items" you want them to, and those are limited to things that are used in a "Quest" you created for your scenario. You can´t take these with you back to the mainland. They stay in the Editor, so to speak. And I think by "the guy" you mean me. I´m sorry that my post didn´t help you though. What´s unclear? Tell me and I may change it.
