I once was a noobie On a land new to me Forced to kill slimes and squeaks Begging for money on the streets
Poor and broke I found a Pker Ran and ran but found no savior He took laughter in my dying I broke my sword and sat there crying
Though I found resolution In the execution Taught and raised by the outcasts Though all they did wrong was fight back
Sought and killed my fellow kind They felt bad, but I felt fine Over time I grew stronger Found myself lasting longer
Joined a guild of soldiers Into dungeons and fields Searching for a kill
Then came the guild wars It was open doors Bloody battles as adrenaline poured Never felt that before
But then they took my UO Left me in the cold “We’re with the new And you’re the old I’m sure there’s somewhere For you to go”
It gives no rush to me I’m done wasting talent On a stupid AI And a world incomplete
Cause ever since they took my UO That is all I’ve seen Just another pretty figure And a guilt free land That dost not appeal to the evil in me.
What greater tribute to free will than the power to question the highest of authority? What greater display of loyalty than blind faith? What greater gift than free will? What greater love than loyalty? |

You could have used a bit more
originality. Paired couplets are so overdone. |
Lot of kids on these boards, gotta keep it simple, ya know? What greater tribute to free will than the power to question the highest of authority? What greater display of loyalty than blind faith? What greater gift than free will? What greater love than loyalty? |

I am probably the only person in this thread that thinks that meter poetry needs to die.... Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced. |

Probably. Well witten meter poetry is a rarity, though enjoyable if done correctly. I really don't think any genre of writing needs to die, as there are talented people in every type of writing. |

I had to spend a semester writing nothing but Iambic pentameter...I hated it...It always felt like it defeats the purpose of poetry to restrict yourself like that...I agree that when it's done well and correctly then it's good...but you can't force it, because when you force it, it always turns out like shit. Some poems work with it, others don't, and trying to apply it where it doesn't fit isn't going to work. Poetry writing should be a personal thing, if your poem works in iambic pentameter, then great, if it works in trochaic octameter then great...if it works in neither, then do it free form...BAH that class made me mad, I only got a B because I wrote a kick ass short story during that unit...... Thank God I clepped out of Comp. 1, 2, and 3. I can't stand having to write shit on a weekly basis.

It was an imaginative writing class...the teacher was okay, and the assignments actually did allow for a great deal of creativity, which I like...but the poetry unit was so damn derivitive....We had to crank out two poems a week for a few months.

Perhaps you feel you are correct, but aren't The younger gen may infact be smart enough To find other kinds of poetry to their liking Iambic Pentameter has always been a fun one
**EDIT: Hey Draenor, how close was I on this?...it has been a while since I tried and it is getting late... "It is easier to be cruel than wise. The road to wisdom is long and difficult... so most people just turn out to be assholes" Feng (Christopher Walken) |

When I was a teen I wrote about 5 poems a day for about 3 years... Now I write financial reports and business ledgers... I think I'd rather write romance novels (graphic... romance... novels...) I got my big broad sword and full plate metal, ready to hack and slash
The party's got all the classes tonight and we're geared to have a blast Casters in the back and the leader shoutin' out Our odds of surviving are high without a doubt I unsheath my blade to bull rush the ogre old shady sam hollers behind my shoulder I don't hear what he says so I continue to slash then the parties healing spells were soon over I turn around with a sneer and take a look back but there was little left for my spot check to see the leader lie dead while casters were runnin -It was nothing but a mutiny! Blah, I'm done. |
