Every diplomat has a series of "cards" that represent a variety of conversational gambits. "Snippet of Wisdom," for example, is a "Reason" card, while "Aggressive Statement" generates "Demand" when players enter into a conversation (called a "parley"), a table appears on screen consisting of a player's point totals, four meters representing various conversational "power levels" and a "conversational flow meter" set at zero. The basic game consists of using various cards to fill up these power meters and pull the flow meter toward the player's side of the table. Each round that the meter is on their side, that player loses a point and sees another line of conversational dialogue. First one to get to zero wins the conversation and finishes another chapter in a story that can range from simple quests to bring a woman's husband home from a bar, to a continent-wide tale of betrayal and murder.
I’m sorry, but that’s lame. I guess branching Dialog and "oblivion" (or most other RPGs) like responses were to much.... |

My question is: Can you bet money on who wins the conversation poker? If so, then man this may be the cure for online gambling! |

honestly i think vanguards diplomacy seems alot more interesting than "oblivion like responses". it really doesn't seem that much different except it is a different interface (sort of like a card game) and there are alot more options in vanguard. if you think the "card game" interface is lame, then that is kool but personally i expect vanguards diplomacy to be better and more in-depth than oblivions parlay system.....witch is a cool feature but not something that could be considered a sphere of advancement. by having 300 cards (or responses) in vanguard to acquire and aide you in diplomacy i think it could be very interesting as long as you can get past the "card game" witch i don't really have a problem with personally. |

I know this will shock you into a coma, but I disagree. I think it sounds original and fun, certainly nothing like this has been tried in any previous MMO. It isn't finished yet either so much could change before release. And it's only one aspect of the game, and a kewl one at that. |

These cards sounds kinda lame, I think they should make more like in Kotor, if everyone knows what i'm saying ;) Starwars Galaxies, An Empier Diveded, That's what it says on my box anyway. |

I dont care that much about what you think. your opion is just as valid as mine. I was expecting more from the system. |

I like the card game interface. But then I really enjoyed the card game that was in Final Fantasy 8 as well.

Wait untill you have to get together with 50 other diplomats for a 8 hour parley session with some contrived NPC bureaucrat just so he'll give you the key your guild needs so they can get into the dragons lair so they can do 51 8 hour raids to get 2 bits of cardboard each time that a guild crafter will combine into uber diplomacy cards so that you and 50 other diplomats can do a 8 hour parley session with another contrived NPC bureaucrat to get yet another key to yet another dragons lair so you can do yet another 51 raids for 2 bits of even better cardboard.....and so on. Ah yes, fun times await you poor bastards. |

If I wanted a card game, I'd play Yugioh Online. Well... I am sceptical, but it remains to be seen. Maybe it IS fun, but the idea to make this card game a timesink filler (like for camping) sounds like a silly idea.

you could make the same argument for a whole lot of other games out there that have mini games inside them. i do understand your point about seeing how fun it will be after a period of time, guess we will find out. |

I thin kit's a great addition to the game.
Loved the P'zaak game from Knights of the old republic. And who actually READS quests they pick up at NPC's? especially in WoW. All you do is run up and click through the NPC dialogue fast and accept the quest. without reading the story to it at all. and then flip up your quest journal and find out what you need to do first. The Parlay system in Vanguard will rock. I'll definatly be doilng a lot of it. what I read about the system it will be alot of fun. .probe |

they've been saying all along it will be like a trading card game. They've also always used Magic the gathering as an example. I like it. I think it adds something new. If it isn't what you were looking for then don't blame sigil, I mean.. they can't read your mind or anything to make it how you think it should be. It will have dialog or responses with what happens in the game to give you a "roleplay" atmosphere as well to show you how the character actually responds to your diplomacy ability. I also like how they have the system set up where players can actuallly kind of "duel" for a kind of "control" of certain cities. I think that also adds an interesting addition to the game. I can't give an honost review as i've never played it, but from what i've read it has alot of potential even if it isn't exactly what I or anyone else though it would of been, at least give it a chance, there are alot of cool things they seem to be allowing you do to with it, and i think it will be very interesting. Current MMO of interest: Vanguard: Saga of Heroes |

Is that really much different from having 50 adventurers mashing 2-3 buttons each for 8 hours in order to bring down a boss mob or two in the hope that they'll loot something that'll give them the chance to do the next 8 hour 50 man raid down the line? I'm a big ol' fluffy carewolf. Be afraid. Be very afraid. |

If you're going to stick it out there, don't be afraid if you get it cut off. |

Pazaak huh? lol. Yeah that would be neat to have some in game gambling...hmm actually that is brilliant. I do think cards is kind of lame, but if integrated correctly it may provide a nice change from the regular combat scenerios. I'm not going to bash it at this point because it may turn out to be pretty cool. I don't want to fault any developer for trying to be innovative, we need more creativity that's for sure. |
