I recently got introduced to mmos through world of warcraft. I know over popularized, but they do everything so well. I think that mmos are defined by the community. Otherwise it's just grinding, and if I wanted to do that I would play final fantasy. if a game has a good community I'm willing to play it even a mud. What current games have the best community, I have only played wow, and I'm eager to try more out. thank you all, and let the debate begin.

These kinds of topics can be dangerous in my experince...everyone will say that "their" community is the best ;)
In most communitys, big or small, you will be able to find friendly and not so friendly people... You said it yourself, if a game got a good community you will be willing to play it. Well, most games got different small communitys within the game itself. Maybe search for a game you might like and then go look for a guild/clan/corp/whatever who seems friendly? |

I''m like a Super Hero without any of the powers or motivation. |

Okay, I'll bite.... City of Heroes. Ryzom was probably 2nd, but it's been a couple years since I played that.

I admit to the inevitable bias here, but I have yet to find a better community than the one I found in Anarchy Online. I also have met multiple people that loved the community, but didnt like the game for other reasons, usually the slow pace. Ao has a free trial, so you can log in and judge for yourself in just a few minutes No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee. |

I didn't mean to step on any toes, and I was just curious what the community thought. I can't believe I put a.com at the end of my subject line I don't know what I was thinking thanks for the input

hmm not really sure but would have to say WoW is probably the most immature community.

...nope, WoW is second to Runescape in the immaturity department.

I would have to say Saga Of Ryzom had the most mature community i've ever encountered. But it was almost too much for me lol. really nice community though |

everquest 2 had a very NICE community ... not too many people trying to grief or ruin anothers immersion by acting like an idiot/punk/leet'er
star wars galaxies had a nice community pre-NGE .. but it did have its fair share of "leet" kiddies and trash talkers... or what i call the immature crowd ...its community although a LOT smaller may be better now .... city of villains had a relaxed friendly community .. but it wasnt deep ... and rp is non existant ..mainly because of lack of community related things to do in that game .... wow community sucks .... matrix community was ok .... planetside was ok ... guild wars has cool peeps playing it ...

Mixed between Shadowbane and UO.
What greater tribute to free will than the power to question the highest of authority? What greater display of loyalty than blind faith? What greater gift than free will? What greater love than loyalty? |

I've heard good things about anarchy online, and I'm interested in the sci-fi genre. I'm curious about trying out everquest. I've had good luck as far as community on the role-playing servers as far as world of warcraft goes.
I'm also curious why rysom is rated so high on the top game board. I'll probably eventually try that out, I've sort of become an mmorpg addict. The games have the human element, and that's why they are such an interesting social experiment. |
