#1 you can't use Alchemy in the name if it's based on Full Metal Alchemist and expect to charge for the game. #2 So what do you do? |

Is this honestly the place to advertise such things? You're websight's on a free messageboard? Sounds shady to me...

You'll probably get sued for using a trademarked name without permission or license.

This sure doesn't sound up-and-coming.

Alright all. 1) Alchemy is a common name. FMA cannot copywright the word "alchemy", it is impossile...They can only copywright their exact anime name so therefore our name is Secrets of Alchemy. 2) We will most certainly not be sued, and we do not have any funds at the time to pay for a domain for a board so I doubt that is shady. 3) How do we do it? We have a game plan of course and we develop what is in that game plan. 4) It is up-and-coming, as it is currently being developed, thank you. 5) If we can eliminate at least about 20% (I believe it was) of the anime's influence the game should be fine. By the way, eliminating characters, cities, etc. we should defenitely be within the law. |

well, can i be the first to wish you good luck even if it doesn't work out, its great to see someone taking some initiative, afterall if it wasn't for people like you, we wouldn't have MMORPG's at all! edit: maybe you should try posting here http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/forum/501 its a forum dedicated to developers who are looking for help with their games. |

So you have nothing then?
A "game plan", design doc, or idea does not constitute development. I know of a game that the owner has sunk $30,000 into it already and it's not even half way to alpha. You're not going anywhere. I suggest learning C++ then DirectX and OpenGL before you decide to make a "game". |

Wow this done right could be a goldmine a FMA MMO. I've never thought of it but now that I do wow the possibilities. Sadly with that engine and a low buget this will be a second rate game probably never finished But think about it different classes based on different types of alchemists flame, metal, stone, water and so on. Loot consisting of different armors maybe guns swords and body enhancements possibly differnt types of Alchemist's stone enhancements. Transmutation symbols spells. Chimera pets..goodness it could be awesome.....could be.... |

sweet jesus... I can make models too. Hell mine even look decent... i must be able to make a mmorpg too!
I got an idea i'll make a mmorpg with plumbers and call it super not-mario brothers. It'll be a fricken hit. /sarcasm off Crap like this does not belong here. I bet you can't even compile the ogre engine. |

*sigh* Why are you guys demotivating him so much, let him be. The only thing that seems not so clever to me is...Rivalry, I mean you are asking people to work for your project without getting payed at all. Sorry to say that so super doomy but you ain't in the position to accept someone but hope to find someone enthusiastic who offers you her/his time for F R E E to help you with your project. But concerning that you obviously are the "producer" of this and that you are only fourteen years old you did a good job on this so far, I bet most people here who doom your project are much older and never even came close to start out with something like this at all... Anyways if you want to make it a success you need atleast a proper domain, a serious homepage and if possible the license for Full Metal Alchemist. The license you can get here but ONLY if you have a proper team, domain, homepage and you will most likely have to sell the rights for your project to Navarre Corporation. If you did well presenting your project and with a little luck they might buy it and at that stage you can seriously start to work on it. Good Luck! =) |

Reality hurts. I forgot to look at his age though. Probably should've done that first. :) Why are you trying to give him hope though? I could understand if you were nicer than the lot of us about it, but you're basically giving this kid alot of false hope. Nobody will ever work on the project for him, it's hard enough to get a paid team to create a MMORPG. The only way it would ever be possible for him to ever create such a thing would be to spend the next 10yrs learning programming and create an engine by himself, then maybe he could get some people to help him. But as of now, you're simply giving the kid false hope when in reality there is no hope for him at this stage in the world. I mean you need to high to think the corporation that owns the rights to Full Metal Alchemist would give them over to a 14yr old kid so that if he ever did actually create a game, he could soil their good name. Just be real. You're being entirley too fake and there is no reason for it. Sometimes you need to just smack some sense into these kids. I see that you're new here and if you stay around for awhile you will see that if we weren't harsh on these kids they would be coming here by the droves posting their BS games that will never make it. They still come here in tons, but I imagine that there would be alot more if they didn't see how harsh we are to kids like this. This thread is spam. Nothing more, Nothing less. We need to be harsh to keep this spam from reoccuring. If you want to give kids like this advice and talk to them like they are actually going to do something about their "idea" then you need to go to ONRPG.com. Because that place is full of these little kids. |

I understand completely the urge to create a game, so I'm gonna be nice. Making a game is a HUGE endevor. Making an MMORPG is an even bigger one. My recommendation is just go to the ogre3d website and read, read, read! Read about what Ogre3d really is (a graphic engine), read about its capabilities and how it can be best combined with other things to make games (like OIS for input, openAL for sound, etc).
Also read the forums. For example: For all the MMORPG wannabes :) This helps demonstrate how ginormous the task of developing and running an MMORPG. If you're really serious about making games I would recommend starting off making a single player game to learn the process. Generally its a safe assumtion to say that anyone's first game sucks. |

Well good luck! I would just like to ask if you ever did a game before? Becouse MMO is not the right place to start your game making quest. Start simple and then evolve. Get a real forum and real site so ppl will not take you for a joke. Costs are like... I don't know... One month's sub to a MMO? If you say you don't have founds for that... You look like 14 years old kid. Witch is not a bad thing but people like to know that there leaders are great, skilled people becouse only then they will respect you and listen to you. Every time I read your post, I die a little inside...

To the OP:
This is not the proper forum. You should post this in the Help Wanted forum, which has as its description, quote, "This forum is for game developers who are looking to recruit people to help create their games." The Pub is not the proper place for this. C |

I think these kids should be encouraged for their hopes and their will to create something. Originally posted by SnaKey I mean you need to high to think the corporation that owns the rights to Full Metal Alchemist would give them over to a 14yr old kid so that if he ever did actually create a game, he could soil their good name. If you would have read my post properly you would have understood that I recommended him to sell his project to Navarra Corporation so he can work with the license, it works that way. The Navarra Corporation themselves don't lose any rights at all, neither is it necessary to sell them, they or most likely their daughter FUNimation Entertainment would simply act as the publisher. Whatever, Navarra isn't a bad bet because they are into software too, so the chances these guys would be interested in something Rivalry is working on are rather "good". Finally, SnaKey, if you call me being fake... Originally posted by SnaKey Just be real. You're being entirley too fake and there is no reason for it. ...I have to call you being very bold for someone bashing on ONRPG.com what obviously is the link-source of his browsergames he is mentioning so enthusiastically in so many of his posts. |

We need to be harsh to stop these "I want to make a MMORPG in my basement" people from multiplying...
Im tired of games like Roma Victor, Endless Ages, and Fun Wang Online. ------------------------------ |

Why? Today they make "Roma Victor", tomorrow it could be "WoW 2". Chances are slim but if we just flame em and make em stop producing games that chances are non! Every time I read your post, I die a little inside...

Someone shoulda smacked this kid for launching his own company at the age of 10, http://www.cyberteks.net/photo.asp , sadly now hes making millions at the age of 17. So what if hes 14, good age to dream about something big. Plus being that young he has alot of free time. Let him be. Anyway since you must bring age up, are you trying to say you are much older and more exp? Well if you are old, why are you still playing video games anyway, and why are you bashing on a little kid? Have common sense. I know for a fact because you are here, then that means you play MMORPG, y? to live in a fantasy world where you can only dream and imagine of actually living there. The kid has dreams also. Now if i were to compare you 2 the only difference is your an old man playing fantasy games pretending to be something your not, prolly a fat lonely man living with his parents, now if you cant tell which is fake or not then your pathetic. This kid has a motivation and a will to create his dream, unlike you. You live someone elses dream and someone elses imagination. Now who has more sense? and who is more Real? |
