The last time I had hands on with Sony Online Entertainment’s DC Universe Online I was taking part in a preview of DLC 8 Son’s of Trigon at SOE Live. The game has made a major transition since then with the release of the PlayStation 4. Now the game has a new DLC to go with the new console. War of the Light Part I.
Last week I was joined by DCUO Creative Director Jens Anderson and members of his development team for a walkthrough of the new DLC. We streamed the walkthrough live on MMORPG.com’s stream page. The first thing I discovered was that Trigon has been imprisoned in his perverse version of Gotham city and our heroes have made their way back to Metropolis.
The focus of the War of the Light is an all new story about the Lanterns. This DLC is the first in a trilogy. One of the first additions I noticed in the game was the sentient planet Mogo. Mogo wields a giant ring inside of himself. It’s a very interesting look. Especially if you like it when it appears that planets are giving you the bird.
During our operation the story behind the new DLC started to unfold. We had to find and take care of different colored mists that are associated with the emotional spectrum. Apparently contact with the mist leads scientists to going all emo and rage out. The mist has also opened up a new line of powers for our heroes (or villains). In this first DLC we have access to the red emotional power rage. Rage is a tank/damage power and has abilities similar to the berserker style. During our operation we were assisted by lanterns Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner that involved a twist at the end that I won’t spoil for you concerning a lantern’s color.

In addition to the new 4 player operation and the Red Light spectrum powers the War of the Light Part 1 includes:
- New Feats and New Collections: A MMO staple.
- A New 8- Player Operation - This operation takes place on Mogo and Ranx.
- New Legends PvP Characters - New Lanterns join the PvP. Atrocitus and Saint Walker.
- Lantern Inspired Gear - Heroes characters can earn Green Lantern based gear and Villains can collect Sinestro Corps. Both groups can collect Red Lantern style gear.
