In its original incarnation, Aventurine's Darkfall was known to have more than a few exploits. Those exploits have remained in the code even after closing the game and licensing it to a pair of new developers to bring it back to life. The Rise of Agon team recently released the game to alpha where the same code being used by it and Darkfall: New Dawn has been datamined, thereby endangering the hack-free environment of both games.
Ub3rgames has announced the final negotiations have been completed with Aventurine and that the company has secured licensing for Darkfall Online. Ub3rgames is currently at work on its iteration of the game called Darkfall: New Dawn.
Big Picture Games has announced that it is now accepting sign ups for the initial round of alpha testing of Darkfall: Rise of Agon, a reboot of the original game. While no date has been set yet, devs say that the first round will include 500 players with new groups added with subsequent waves.
One of the two teams hoping to secure licensing from Aventurine in order to bring back the original Darkfall Online, Big Picture Games, has laid out the first details about how funding the project will happen as well as alpha and beta plans.

Big Picture Games will title their version Darkfall: Rise of Agon. At this writing, neither has managed to secure licensing, but both have reported progress in talks with current owner and developer Aventurine.
Aventurine CEO and founder Zad Mehdawi took to the DarkFall forums today to announce that despite player petitions there will be no rebooting of the original game. Mehdawi cited the company's commitment to making Darkfall Unholy Wars a much better game over time. He also thanked the community for their support and interest and reinforced the idea that Aventurine wants to be a company of which every player can be proud.
Aventurine Studios is looking into the technical issues to see if it is feasible to bring back Darkfall in response to player requests. A KickStarter is also being considered for financial support of Darkfall should it be relaunched.
A new poll has been posted on the Darkfall Online Reddit to bring back the game. It's not an official poll, but one to assess interest in bringing back what some feels is the better iteration of the series.
Aventurine has announced that beginning October 17th, all past and present subscribers will be able to log back into Darkfall and play for free until November 15th. On November 15th, Darkfall servers will be shut down for good to make way for Darkfall: Unholy Wars.
A new blog post on the official Darkfall Online: Unholy Wars site contains information for current players of Darkfall Online. When Unholy Wars launches, the original game will shutter its doors. Player characters will not make the transfer but owners have been promised the 'viability' will move with them. Current subscribers will also be able to score DFUW for the price of a subscription.
Aventurine Studios has announced the next episode of Darkfall that has been in the works for the past two years. The expansion originally began as Darkfall 2010. With the massive number of changes and additions the team wanted to implement, it eventually evolved into a new game called Darkfall Unholy Wars. The team has released a new video giving insight into the new iteration of the PvP-centric game.
The Darkfall team has announced that a new promotion will be rolled out to entice former players to return to the game. The Ultimate Promotion event has begun and will run during specific dates in July.
Aventurine Studios has announced that from today through Sunday, November 20th, players will enjoy a free Darkfall weekend regardless of subscription plan. Players will also enjoy a four times faster 'skilling' rate and increased loot drops.
In a new blog post on the Darkfall Online site, Tasos Flambouras indicates that the much-anticipated siege system is "looking good" for deployment sometime the week of September 12th.
