The Crowfall site has been updated with a lengthy blog about how players will be able to construct their own special corner of an Eternal Kingdom. Starting by claiming backer rewards to inventory, the process proceeds along a number of paths on the way to relaxing by a roaring fire.
Build Mode is the effective spot where players actually see a "spirit" building in any one of a variety of sizes (small, medium and large) that can then be placed into the game world. It's important to know where the building is being placed as well since parcels have actual weight limits. A city, for instance, can hold more large buildings than a village on the outskirts.
Some buildings also have "sockets" -- think LEGOs here -- that allow it to be connected to others to form structures of a certain shape or to chain walls together, for example.
