The latest weekly Conan Exiles community Q&A has been published on the Conant Exiles Reddit. As always, it covers a number of topics as wide-ranging as hyenas to the dye system to loot and respawn. Of particular interest is the discussion around combat improvements.
Joel Bylos tackled the question and informed the community that combat is a priority but that it will never be "on par with a game like Dark Souls". The team is vested in making it interesting and fun but that without years behind its development, the goal, at least for Early Access, it to be more along the lines of modded Skyrim or Dark Messiah.
That said, I do NOT believe we have achieved our ambition and we have a work to do. Let me break it down a bit more.
Control Feel/Input Priorities – One of the least transparent, but most important parts of the system. It encompasses a mass of things – how it feels to dodge, how it feels to block, how various inputs are prioritized (dodge from blocking, swing from blocking, dodge mid-swing etc.) These are the things that people mean when they describe combat as "clunky" and to be honest, it can be a deep dive down a rabbit-hole to perfect some of these mechanics. We've already made a lot of small tweaks, but expect more significant changes. This also applies to ranged weapon mechanics. This means new animations and changes to timing of animations etc.
Other topics of interest include:
- trebuchets
- dev favorite aspects of the game
- whether or not vaults should be excluded from open access
- when character creation might be updated
