Re-Launching this Fall as CitiesXL 2011

Focus Home Interactive has acquired the previously defunct city-building MMO CitiesXL from Monte Cristo, and has plans to re-launch the game this October as CitiesXL 2011.


Planet Offer Canceled

The multiplayer features of CitiesXL found in the game's Planet Offer subscription service are set to be canceled come March 8th, 2010 according to an announcement made by CitiesXL developer Monte Cristo. The reason for the cancellation is not an unfamiliar one, simply not enough players took the company up on their Planet Offer, and so the service is being shut down.

Second Content Pack Released!

The team at Monte Cristo has released their second content pack for their city-building MMOG, CitiesXL. The main feature of the pack is the addition of a new bus mass-transit system.


First Content Pack Now Live!

The first content pack for Monte Cristo's city building sim/MMOG, CitiesXL, is now live! The pack adds a number of additional buildings to all CitiesXL players including a high school, a farm, and even a Ford dealership. Planet Offer subscribers receive get their money's worth and enjoy significantly more additional content including an "Old English" pack of Shakespearean inspired medieval buildings, three new maps, and a number of megastructures including "The Rock" Alcatraz prison.


Launches Today!

The city-building simulation MMOG, CitiesXl, developed by the folks at Monte Cristo has launched in North America today! CitiesXL features a robust feature set of city building tools for aspiring mayors, but unlike traditional city building sims, CitiesXL also features a fully online component called the Planet Offer. Players who subscribe to the Planet Offer ($9.25/month) will be able to build up to five cities, receive regular updates to the game, and trade with others.


In-Depth Walkthrough Video #1

The first entry in a new video walkthrough series for Monte Cristo's upcoming city-building MMOG, CitiesXl, is now available. The video covers the incredibly impressive breadth of features and options available to city building aficionados who pick up the game in some pretty specific detail.


Demo Now Live!

As promised, the CitiesXL demo has gone live today. The demo will be available throughout the month of September and will allow players to try out three of the 25 solo mode (50 for Planet Offer) maps, and build cities with a population cap of 22,000. The full game will allow for megalopolises with millions of citizens, among other things.


New Website Launches, Demo Information

The new CitiesXL website is now live, and along with its new snazzy look comes the announcement of a forthcoming demo of the game to be released on September 8th. The demo will allow you to build cities using 3 of the 25 maps to be available at launch, and will also have a hard cap of 22,000 citizens, whereas the full game will allow for cities populated with millions of citizens.


"What's Cities XL" Trailer #3

A new trailer for CitiesXL is now available. The new trailer, the third in a series of "What's Cities XL" trailers introduces us to some of the more advanced elements of the game's city building offerings, including the development of police forces, education systems, and giving us a glimpse at how players can construct "green" cities.


North American Launch Set for Oct. 9th

Monte Cristo, the developers behind the upcoming city-building MMOG, CitiesXL, have finally announced a date for the North American release of the game. CitiesXL will be launching in North American territories on October 9th, 2009. The game will be made available through through mail order at the game's official website, or as a digital download available at a number of distribution partners.

European Launch Delayed

CitiesXL will no longer be launching in Europe on September 3rd, 2009 as previously reported. Instead, the date has been pushed back to October 8th for the non-English localized versions, and October 9th for the English version. Monte Cristo has yet to announce a date for the North American release.
