Single player games are good and all, and Steam is great too, but I guess in the end I like grinding in MMOs.. ugh, I blame all the MMOs I played. I couldn't stop myself, and got the FFXI Ultimate Collection on Steam recently (for 5 bucks, woot!) .. and I bought the Guild Wars Trilogy along with Eye of the North (hence my previous post asking about it).
Now, why would I buy FFXI and GW when FFXIV and GW2 are coming out? I couldn't wait hehe. And.. I'll add some back story too.
Before I started playing MMOs seriously, I played RO (on pvt servers cough) on and off.. wasn't anything serious, just an hour a week or so. At the time, GW was my #1 game to buy, cept back then I couldn't buy it.. parents eh? Fast forward nearly a decade later and college (graduated woot), I now have time on my hands ( I blame the economy... cough.. uh) I want to play these games.
That said, I'm also highly receptive to reviews and word of mouth. Why? Because my guildie from a f2p recommended EvE back in 2008, and I joined. Best decision in my gaming career, if you can call it that. Now on Aion (terrible terrible game), my legion mates talked about their time on FFXI fondly.. and others on the server sometimes (but rarely) mention GW for its pvp. Hearing that, I want to go and try those games.
I think I'm going to play FFXI first since it comes with the 30 days, but I doubt I'll subscribe to it... since FFXIV is already on my pre-ordered...and I have 2 EVE accounts to pay for. That said, it should prep me for FFXIV since it seems everyone on the forums are saying how similar the two are.
As a side note, I haven't done any in-depth reading on FFXIV, because most are speculations and ..whining(?) posts (about a game that hasn't even come out, laughable). So FFXI is going to be my FFXIV primer.
Moogles, chocobos, and tonberries here I come.
