the gods, in their infinite wisdom, have decided to remodel the main port area of brist.

so, they consolidated the ports into just 5 to go out from - down from the 7 of before.  the following screenies start from the portal closest to my right in a clockwise fashion (as indicated):

port one: goes to the dalimond peninsula, abandoned isle, delgarath, helian's tomb, the islands of fire and ice, and winter vale

port two: goes to the guild towns

port three: goes to the settlements and to my own shepherd's mountain (my port is the middle cliffside one)

port four: goes to the main towns and to genevia island

port five: goes to the fire and ice islands and to trandalar ports (got confused and thought i had this one screenied, but was obviously mistaken)

not sure how i feel about this, def gonna take some getting used to!

wisp island

i hate wisp poo.  i just do.  i know it all started years ago - when the area the residue nodes were in would flash like a strobe light - we called it disco work back then.  since then, essence work has always been unpleasant for me.  maybe it is the shrieking sound the wisps make when you harvest them.....whatever it is, i hate wisps and thier poo.

but - whatever my feelings about it, it is work that must be done, so let's get to it!

the best place to do wisp work is, inarguably, wisp island.  the first 3 tiers of them are there, along with a essence workstation (one good thing about essence, it only needs one machine to do all the processing, unlike the others which need at least 2) - all unguarded (well, almost, as you will see).

as usual, we start in brist - but not the main town port.  one must go thru the guild town of sakon to get to wisp island, and that port is the port next on the right of the main port.  scroll down to the sakon destination and teleport.

once you hit the pad, turn to the west and head down the road until you hit the three sisters bridgecross the bridge and you are in the front field of wisp island (the view is from the ews - the opposite bridge goes to some other island whose name escapes me - i think it might be fabric island, but don't quote me).  wisp island continues on to a spur in the back field, behind the large rock.

essence is a strange resource - you can harvest 'regular' wisp poo while the critter is alive, or you can kill the wisp and harvest blighted versions - something you can't do with any other resource.  a blight anchor can 'infect' the resources near and create blighted versions of metals, stones, gems, even trees - but killing and harvesting a maple treant does not get you blighted maple logs.....  of course, there is also wisp residue -  an immobile pile of wisp crap, easily harvested.

as i said, wisp island has the first 3 tiers of wisps on it - dims, pales, and glowies (it's hard to see in the screenie, but dims are a light blue and pales are white).

using the convenient ews, it is easy to make processed resources.  opening the knowledge tab, you would first choose to make essence orbs (of course, you are no doubt experienced enough a gamer to have the necessary tools and forms on a hotkey bar, but allow me to assume the opposite).  this will bring up the contruction form and allow you to make the needed orbs.  once you have the orbs made, you can then bring up the constuction resource form (in this case, essence spheres) in likewise manner.

heading back to sakon to deliver your goods is easy enough - you simply retrace your steps back to the east once across the three sisters bridge.  the sakon port goes directly to bristugo.

o, i almost forgot - the wisp island's one and only guard.  an enraged wisp makes it's home on the island.  it moves around and looks like any other wisp.  you can tell the difference in 2 ways - clicking on it from afar, or by wondering into it's range.  if you get too close, it will attack you, even without provocation.  this is nothing more than a nuisance, as it is very low level and easy to defeat, even barehanded, but all but the lowest level alt.

so, with the first 3 tiers of ess work done, i was able to complete the ews on the industrial complex.  here is mourningwood activating the machine after vel popped it.

that's it for now!!  be back soon with more fun!

crafting maple in sanctuary bay

ah, maple, maple, maple.  doing maple is such a delightful pain, at least at sanctuary bay.  a large, well stocked, and extensive field - heavily guarded by an army of treants........

as with most (if not all) of my favored resource/crafting spots, the trip to sanctuary bay starts with the main town port in brist (which you have seen enough already) - it is a settlement port, so you will need to scroll down the destinations.  there is a direct port in, but no outgoing port - you need to make the run to tishlar.  more about that later.

porting into sanct bay, you will no doubt notice how small it is - there is only one large plot area.  there is also a gazebo and a large archway (once destroyed by the withered aegis, but rebuilt by yours truly - as cheese queen of blight, i feel it my duty to slowly but surely rebuild destroyed public works), along with several lampposts - but that is all there is room for!

[before continuing, i would like to apologise for the lack of screenies for the following - i was so intent on getting a fairly detailed series showing my shortcut out of sanct bay that i neglected to get more good ones of how to get to the field itself]

as i mentioned above, the maple field is very vast - but very well guarded by high level treants (which, as a small benefit, are eminently harvestable, as well as supplying trophies that turn into tidy sums of cashy money or xp).  it is possible to avoid them, if you are very fast and willing to drop your disk in order to run away and come back to retrieve it - but there are many many more treants in the field than, i think at least, any other guarded area in game.  and they respawn quickly.

after getting into sanct bay, you will see a cliffside beside the lake (directly across from the port pad and slightly to your right).  you can run up this cliffside and you will be in the leading edge of the field above the town plot.

for several days i was joined (read: babysat) in the field by some friends.  lizzy was on a quest to see how fast you could make grand master crafter (level 100 in all 19 crafting skewls) - i believe it took him 23 days or somesuch, less than a month i know - so together we were able to watch each other's backs while harvesting.  a couple of times, vicegod elek, may his name be ever praised!, came out just to play with the treants while i chugged away. [sometimes, during the winter festival, you can hunt maple treants for parts to make a shoulder pet treant - i have one, they are kinda kute!  if i remember, i will take it out of storage for a screenie....]

as i said, sanct bay is a player town with room for only one plot.  as you will find out soon, in addition to maple, bright essence is also scattered in the field, in the form of wisps and residue.  i will explore this soon (as my next resource to harvest ingame is brights), but mention it now because whichever player gets that plot is helped by the entire shard, if necessary (most peeps who grab that plot are very high level alts) - because it will always have the highest tier of woodwork and essence stations, along with an excess of silos.

to get to the wws when ready to process, you simply head back to the plot, run off the cliff, and there you are!  depending on your tastes, you can fill a silo or two with processed resources - a warning!  the silos here are open to all - on blight, we are generally a trustworthy lot, but even we have bad apples.  common shard courtesy is to leave the silos as you found them, but it is also expected that you know any goods left unattended (shard wide announcement  that you are working with them is usually enough) are subject to not being there when you return, especially if left longer than overnight.

now we get to the screenie intensive part!  lol

once you have a load of finished product to haul back to whereever, you are ready to head to tishlar to port out.  you COULD take the long way - follow the dirt road in a wide semicircle of empty space to the town.  or you could try my shortcut (discovered back in the day before sanct bay had its' own port).

starting at the plot, run toward the cliffs behind the port pad.  go up the little plateau toward what looks like a sheer cliffside.  there is a vee shaped  'notch' in this cliff that you can run along, tho, to get to the other side of the cliff.  once you are on the other side, turn to face west and you will see the valley i usta use to get to sanct bay.  head thru it, and continue in a westerly direction until you see a bridge and a paved road.  run along the paved road for a few yards, then take the right hand road strait into tishlar.

tishlar is one of the rare ports that does not have brist as a destination.  in order to get to the port town, you have to use a settlement port that does.  i like heather, as it has the shortest length to run between port pads.  as you already know, heather has an awesome port!

and the takes care of the maple work and my carpentry needs!  i move on to the much hated essence work next (and if you think that pointing out that essence work is no harder than any other resource will lessen my hatred of it, you are much mistaken.  it is a hatred that is deep, abiding, and ancient - perhaps i might tell you why in the next post!).

finishing the carpentry also finished a couple buildings!  the large saris manor and the printing press popped, much to my joy!

crafting oak in heavenly heather

sorry it's been a while, i have been studying for finals!  they are finally over now, so back to real work!

so, after finishing elm, it was time to move on to oak.  the best place to harvest oak, if you can take on/avoid the treants, is the deceptively sleepy suburb of heather.

heather is located nw of new rachival, but it has it's own port in and out to brist, located on the main town portal.  it is a free port (without a loaded disk, of course) both ways.

heather is a player built town, so all the buildings there are subject to coming and going.  however, due to the abundance of harvestable resources, there will almost always be a wood, stone, tanning, cloth, and food prep workstation somewhere in the immediate port area.

porting into heather to get to the oak, you would turn northerly (to your right, for those like me directionally challenged).  a short run will bring you to the the main road thru the area and the southern edge of the oak field.  the oaks are spread out over a very large area to the west and east and north.

you know the harvesting routine by now, so i will spare you those details.  once you get a load of logs, you simply run back to one of the wws and make your processed resources (boards, timbers, and braces).

since we are getting up into the higher tiers and since heather is such a prime crafting location, it is heavily guarded by treants and wolves.  they are quite the nuisance, but the real danger to watch for is storm's shadow, a named boss who is important in several quests.  he is tough and nasty, even for high level crafters.  all these critters are easy to avoid, but not fun to deal with while crafting.

once you have your processing done, you can catch the awesome and unique town port (not many look like it!) to brist and onto your destination.

this short post does not do justice to the sheer awesomeness of heather for crafters.  we will be revisiting it for kenaf when i get around to the fabric construction!  hopefully by then you will be ingame to see how kewl beans in awesome sauch heather is for yourself!

moving on to maple next!  see you soon!
