Before setting off on your journey, you must first understand the basics of movement, combat, and quests. Using the W, S, A, and D keys, move your character forward, backward, left, and right, respectively.  You may also adjust the camera by holding down the left mouse button, or turn your character with the right mouse button.

If you wish to modify the key bindings, you may do so within the Preferences interface of the game Menu.

From here you may adjust options to customize the game interface to your liking—see below for popular settings. The following option allows you to toggle relative user interface scale when changing resolutions.

Enabling the following options will…

  • Cause your character to face towards your target automatically when right-clicking on a target to enter combat.
  • Automatically move your character within range of your target when right-clicking to engage in combat.
  • Enable equipment tooltip comparisons.

To remap key functions, simply click next to a category and press the desired key.

Rampant throughout the area surrounding the Jieyi Shrine in Hebei, Wanhou Monkeys will serve as your first experience in combat.  Approach one of the beasts, and position the mouse cursor over it.

Left-click on the target to display their portrait in the upper-left corner of the screen—this interface contains information regarding their Health and Lv.

Right-click on the target to enter combat mode—causing your character to automatically move within range of the target, and attack with the equipped weapon.

Upon defeating enemies, you will be awarded with a small amount of EXP.  A gauge displayed along the bottom portion of the screen indicates how much EXP you have gained.

Once you have accumulated enough EXP, you can increase your Lv.—gaining access to new skills, weapons, armor, etc.

After having defeated an enemy, a container will appear on the ground where they fell.

To examine their remains, position your mouse cursor over the container, and right-click to open it.  Many useful items can be acquired from defeating various creatures throughout the land.

You will encounter many people throughout your travels that are in need of assistance—these tasks come in the form of quests.  An NPC that has a quest to offer has a distinct green scroll floating above them.

Though there are many different types of quests are available, all quests reward the player with EXP, and potentially items, currency, and reputation upon completion.

With the Closed Beta about to end, we also wanted to conduct a test during the Closed Beta that players may have been waiting eagerly for, the Cash Shop! Everybody will be receiving ZEN to test out the Cash Shop tomorrow morning (July 21st). We will be sending out the ZEN at 11:00 AM, but it may take a while for it to arrive to your account, so please be patient. You should be seeing the ZEN in your HOTK player automatically tomorrow. This will not carry over to the HOTK Open beta or any other games. Additionally, players who registered for the beta keys on or before April 26th will also receive a Horse Mount to use in the Closed Beta tomorrow as well. The mount is only for Closed Beta.

As we prepare for the end of Closed Beta, and head into Open Beta, every player who reaches level 20 and beyond will be receiving a special gift for Open Beta. Players who are eligible for early access (redeemed keys on or before 4/26) will be allowed into the game at 12:00 PM Pacific and everybody else can join in at 4:00 PM Pacific. We want to thank all of our players in Closed Beta, and we look forward to seeing you on the battlefields!

Reputation System Introduction

As you are about to embark on your journey to defend the nation of your choice. It is important to ally with various factions to help in your quest.

State Reputation:

There are three states to choose form in HOTK, the Wei, Shu or Wu. Players who join a state will be able to accept state only quests that will grant you reputation. Your reputation will influence your ranking within the state.

Area or Region Reputation:

Throughout the world of HOTK, there are many groups or smaller factions that you can align yourself with and gain reputation with. You can get different rewards for each faction.

Force Reputation:

These are specific groups that you can gain reputation with, but joining one will often pit you against another. So be careful! Note: The faction and Title names were taken from old version, names may change (stats won't)

Upon gaining 500 reputation with regions such as Hebei, Bashu, Guanzhong, Kiangnan and many others, you will get a Title.

For Hebei, you receive the title "Hebei - Herald of Compassion" which gives you a slight stats increase of +20 HP Max, +1 AP and +1 Defense. If you continue to gain reputation, you can receive the "Hebei - Swordsman" title and the the stats increase will include all the previous with the addition of +1 Critstrike.

For screenshots of most of the titles from each region, check out the forum thread located here: http://hotk-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=4151

The Three Kingdoms period is one of the most glorified eras of ancient China. Our newest title, Heroes of Three Kingdoms allows players to witness this period in history, and join the struggle between Wei, Shu or Wu. Pledge your allegiance, and help shift the balance of power to change history forever.

For players who already have knowledge of the rich history behind the Three Kingdoms era, it will be an exciting opportunity to meet the fabled generals of the kingdoms, and battle beside them, or endeavor to defeat them.

The vast majority of quests have been created with influences from the novel “Romance of the Three Kingdoms” novel. As you progress through the game, you will participate in various instances called “Campaigns.” These Campaigns will guide you through the historic stories from the Three Kingdom Era—from the Yellow Turban Rebellion, or defeating the treacherous Dong Zhuo.

Rather than simply witnessing the legendary Zhao Yun as he single handedly breaks through the forces of Cao Cao to rescue Liu Bei’s infant son—players will now be able to fight alongside him as you attempt to recreate that chapter of history.

The lands of ancient China awaits you—as you experience the events that changed history, discover landmarks where Liu Bei, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei swore an oath of brotherhood that set their life into motion, and change history forever as you become one of the Heroes of Three Kingdoms.

Which kingdom will you choose? Will you change history and reunite China under the Wei, Wu or Shu kingdoms?
