EA and Mythic are made for each other...

Once a long time ago I thought Mythic had a plan. DAoC was enjoyable at first. Yes, it did turn into a horrible game, but thats because they lost sight of what made it a fun game. Its just like with Warcraft. I enjoyed getting all my characters to South Shore and engaging in all the PvP it had to offer. Yes, there was no point. There were no goals. I simply enjoyed the combat. Usually it would start small, then end up with 30v30 madness. Following in DAoC's footsteps, Blizzard released content that simply ruined this form of combat.

Just for the fun of it, I hit up the classic servers on DAoC once again. I have every class for each realm parked in thid. I realized very fast why War plays so poorly. Right off, bone dancer pets were running through keep doors and killing people. Right off, shrooms were shooting people through walls and killing them. Man, this is sounding awfully familiar. Pet AI is simply a nightmare. I walked across a bridge, where the fuck did my pet go. Did mythic use the exact same engine for War?

I expect DAoC to have these kinds of problems. I dont expect War to. Oh well, I was in a decent group for a bit. I started off playing my cabalist. 8 of us walking over a bridge when I notice a stealther and send my pet to pop him when, poof, dead in one hit. One single hit through my bubble, insta dead. Every caster in the group damn near insta died to a group of 6 luri nightshades. This left a paladin and an a merc to die to the 6 remaining stealthers. We didnt kill a single one of them. Obviously, this left a bad taste in my mouth. I realized at any one time, there were more stealthers on the map than all other classes combined. You might think this would wake mythic up a bit.

The fanbois will yell, oh that doesnt count, only end game counts. I thought the journey was supposed to be fun. My bad. So i leave to go play a bit of War. After nearly dieing to the combination of a squig that walked through the door and 4 magus pets fireballing me through the walls, i bounced from that game as well. I would think, before you release a game, before you take the time to design all these classes, you might want the simple things to work, like line of sight and shit walking through walls.

So I decide to say fuck MMO's for a bit and play an RTS. I pick up  Red Alert 3. Right off the bat, the DRM made me want to break the fucking game. Your going to tell me that I have to have an internet connection to activate the fucking game. I also have to de-activate the game online or I lose an install credit. Am I fucking renting this game that I paid 50$ for. I slip the dvd in the drive and it wont fucking read. I take the game back and get a new copy. I slip the dvd in the drive. Sweet, it reads the damn dvd. I start to enter the key code when I notice its missing a fucking character. 19 out of 20 fucking characters. So I have to guess what this last character is. After my third guess the game boots me out of the install and you have to start over by typing in all 19 other characters. You have to be kidding me. By this time, id rather get my money back than play this fucking game.

So to shorten this rant post...

Fuck DRM, fuck EA, and fuck Mythic

Hum...I take it you had a bad day.

Only thing that bothered me when you talked about War is that the game is well balanced compared to a lot of games. You can PvP starting from level 1 and really enjoy it, you also won't end up fighting a group of 6 "x" that can insta kill you because they will be "chickened" (debuff that forces players to stay in their tier or the one below).

And, this just crossed my mind, when you say "shoot through the wall" it never happened to me unless I was already targeted by the creep (or spell from a player) and even if I hid behind a wall I would still get hit. Is that what you mean? Or is it that they litteraly shoot through the wall even though they can't technically see you?

And yes glitch are a problem, but instead of ranting here, wouldn't it be better to report it on the forum and wait for some feedback? Mythic really listened to their community during Beta and they keep listening to them so I'm sure that if you can bring other people to back up your argument it could easily work.

Waaaaaaah! Sounds like you don't like to die... it's a part of gaming. If you can't handle it, stop playing computer games and go read a book.

I simply dont buy any game with Securerom.  EA though is in the thick of it with 5 lawsuits resulting from Securerom.  Id love to play GTA IV on my pc but Securerom.... no thanks.  Sacred was a great game too, but Sacred 2 with Securerom... no thanks.  Therefore if I can get it off of Steam with no Securerom I will do that, Otherwise it gets pirated.  I went from a paying customer to a pirate all because of Securerom.  Thanks Securerom you have saved me some money.

@t0nyd you shouldn't insult JonMichael out of the blue. If you read your post again all you can read is: "shoot through walls and died....fuck...shit"...etc. Obviously, the fact that you don't like to die will come to people's mind.

Instead I'd recommand you to tell us more reason as for why you hate these games and why these companies "sucks" beside ranting on a forum about some glitch that can be fixed if you took your time to talk about it on the game's  forum.

"shoot through walls and died...fuck...shit" Do see that in this paragraph. This paragraph seems pretty simple. You fuckers do love to take shit out of context.

Sorry I shouldn't have quoted this way. What I meant to say is that what we can read is that you get shoot through the wall and die. You also use ''shit'' and ''fuck'' to describe pretty much the rest of your text. That's what I meant, sorry if you misunderstood.

I think the problem stems from the fact that these developers have big budgets and little oversight. The mantra that Mythic chanted was, "We know how to build a game and EA knows it". If fact, in one interview, Mark crowed about how EA thought they were frugal with their development capital. What did they do with the money they spent? It sure as hell didn't go into development! These companies piss away money on road trips and office parties while the investors sit back and trust them. Here's hoping that someone in EA's management got a good lashing for the mess that WAR became. These companies need to stop taking developers at their word that they know what they're doing. Obviously, they don't.

@LordDrakeonLordDrakeon: EA doesn't give a shit about the state the game is in currently. They are just the publisher, they only make money off the box sales, not monthly subs. As long as the initial sales get them a profit they could care less. This is why you see games spends a whole lot of money on advertisement and "hype" Ediosigns. Edios did the same AoC. Expect games to be continually continuly released "early" until publishers and developers converge and work out a system where the publisher makes money on monthly subs.

@OP: I hear you man. I didn't buy the game because all these bugs weren't fixed during beta and persisted up until the last day of open beta. Sucks, hopefully games released by indie publishers and game developers will be more complete, or billzard decides to prodcue another game. Maybe SWOR won't be so bad. Can only hope :(

@xpiher: EA Games bought Mythic lock, stock, and barrel. Much more than "just the publisher", they own the company, so yes, I think they care about more than the box sales. EA wants to get a piece of that lucrative monthy fee pie that Blizzard keeps flashing around. Trouble is, they believed Jacobs when he blew about how he knew how to make a MMORPG and, if WAR doesn't generate the kind of profit they expect, they'll likely shut it down, just like they did with Earth & Beyond.

WAR has its problems (Engineer Turrents shooting through walls...) but it's decently polished for being 2 months out the door. MMOs aren't as clean as WoW when they release, just like AOC, it had a horrible launch, but now it's starting to come back and they're fixing the content etc. what was broken. WAR is getting bugs fixed daily, maybe in another month or two you will like it more, but for right now, its good enough for me and alot of other people :P

Trust me, you're not missing much with Red Alert 3. Sad that you bought it though. EA needs to cut the crap with the obsessive DRM out. Fun fact, while yes, it's a new securom feature (Thanks a lot Sony...) companies are not obligated to use the activation system, it's an option.

Look at Bethesda, they promised players they will never used Securom for Fallout 3, and what happened? Even after released they said there is no Securom, and in fact there is. It might not count the number of installations, but it checks your DVD-rom activity. Securom works like a spyware. I am not gonna buy anything from Bethesda or EA games anymore.
