Just built a new PC and realized, there is nothing to play...

I just built a new PC, mainly because im tired of the little glitches my other one had. I was gaming on ...

  •  abit 939 mobo
  • 2gig corsair 800
  • athlon 4200 x2
  • sapphire  x1950 512mb agp

   Now I am on...

  • MSI k9a2 platinum am2+ mobo
  • 2gig ocz 1066 sli
  • phenom 9500
  • sapphire x3870 512mb pcie

My new set up is far more stable than my old, which is really kind of strange. I believe I had a bad part in there that was causing intermittent errors. I have also decided to try Vista out. So far so good.

Now as I sit with my new PC ready to play, I cant, for the life of me, find something to play in DX10. I mean, there is always crysis, but come on, is that it. By the time Conan comes out my PC will probably be a few hundred dollars cheaper and the new batch of phenoms will be out. Damn you gaming companies, damn you to hell. Please give me something to spend my money on :)

LotRO now utilizes DX10. As far as other MMOs go, EVE might look pretty sweet on your new computer. At least give it a little bit of a workout before it's old and overweight and never moving from the recliner...

I just couldnt get into LotRO. I wanted to atleast get to monster play, but I couldnt make it. It was probably the most boring MMO that I have ever played. Thanks for the suggestion tho, I didnt realize it was using dx10 now.

I play TF2 a bit. Its pretty fun. Im not a fan of single player fps tho. I just dont see the point of them. I remember when I got fear, i went through that entire game and died once, and thats because i was half watching tv, heh...

DX10 is a joke. If you're running Vista and attempting to game, you have issues. XP is still by far the way to go.

obviously microsoft and the gaming developer community as a whole is lying when they talk about the things DX10 can do that DX9 can't....

From someone who has actually experienced the difference, from DX9 XP lord of the rings and DX10 Vista lord of the rings...

don't listen to anti-vista fools like Kordesh. DX10 version > DX9

I just built a new PC too.

Intel Q6600 Overclocked from 2.4 to 3.6ghz
2 Gigs of  G.Skill DDR2 800
nvidia 8800GT 512
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 rev.2
blah blah big power supply, aftermarket cooler, the works.

Anyway. I kind of felt the same way soon as I got it.. but as the days went on I found more and more things to play.. but not in DX10

Team Fortress 2
Call of Duty 4
Witcher
Oblivion
Microsoft Flight Simulator
Supreme Commander
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
Crysis

Theres not many games out there to take advantage of DX10.. and you won't see a full DX10 game until .. well.. probably the next release of windows.

Basically windows vista is to windows XP as windows ME was to windows 98.

Wait for windows Vienna come 2009. It's entirely redesigned like windows vista was SUPPOSED to be.

It still amazes me that there isnt more 64 bit support, I mean who isnt using a 64 bit proc now adays. Your probably right, it will take some time to see some real dx10 games.

too many problems with 64 bit right now...

eventually, it'll be the new standard. Just like dual-core processors are becoming the "new standard" x64 will be somewhere down the line...

and after that quade-core and ......... it just keeps going. You just have to have patience and realize that you'll need to upgrade every year or two

LOL, I'm not feeling up to building my own PC's anymore, (besides, laptops are a bit of a challenge) so I am just about to purchase one new gaming laptop and a desktop.   But I was talking to my son yesterday and said, if I buy these new computers, we really need a new game to play on them.  (sounds of crickets chirping).  Might have to give PotBS or something like that a try just to say we have something new.

I've been enjoying TF2 and Call of Duty 4.. and they don't require a high end PC. I played just fine on my old one.. but now I can crank everything up at 1680x1050 and AA and AF :).
