Top 20 Most Influential Developers

Just prior to coming back to MMORPG.com, I worked with Massive Online Gamer magazine on the Top 20 Most Influential Developers in MMOs. The mag has finally released the list - you'll have to buy the magazine to get my detailed reasons why! - but I have to say, it's quite the process.

Last year, like everyone else, I played armchair quarterback and critiqued the work Bruce Woodcock and MOG Editor Doug Kale did putting it together. A year later, I was lucky enough to write the list with Doug and I must say, I'll never dimiss any ranking of this nature again.

It's a shockingly difficult thing to do. The list considers the most influential of 2008's calendar year, which is important to keep in mind when reading it, and the word "influential" has to be remembered too. We considered people who had a big influence, good or bad, in 2008.

That all said, it was a really fun exercise and an honor to write it. I do hope a few of you go out and pick up the issue to check out the full article, but for those who'd rather just see the list, it has begun to circulate online.

The full list is over at Massive Online Gamer, so check it out and let me know what you think!

I'm both surprised and relieved to not see Tasos on that list. Normally MMO media outlets are all over Darkfall because it's controversial, and controversy means more viewers, which is more money for that Porche.

Dissapointing to not see any of the Aion or L2 guys on there as usual mmorpg.com shows its bias to western crap

Read the actual article, it's not the top 20 devs, it's the top 20 in the industry. Glad Tasos isn't on there, good to see Jack Emmert is.
