RAN online, How to Become a Lead Club

RAN online has many more contents that can be enjoyed together with other characters than alone. Obviously, it is easier to hunt together than alone. Therefore, the most of the RAN users form a party or form a Club to enjoy RAN online together every time.

Forming a club and acting as a member of that club is important in RAN online because it is providing various systems which consider team work and ties between the users very importantly.

One of the systems is called Lead Club Battle. Lead Club Battle is to define the final winner through battle between the clubs at appointed spot in 4 different regions. This is the typical type of RAN online club system and can be considered as Siege Warfare (or RvR) the emblem of online games.

 

Let’s become a Lead Club in a Region through Lead Club Battle!

Where
Lead Club Battle of RAN online is held in four regions at the same time. Take the bus to move to each region’s E-Room.

When
It is held at 13:00 hours of RAN time (GMT+9) on every Wednesday and Sunday. GM will announce the Lead Club Battle, one hour prior to its start. 

How
Once a character is inside of E-Room, it will be auto PK mode against other club members (without pressing ‘Z’ button). The Last Club which holds authentication after indiscriminate attack between the clubs will be given the rights of that region.

Just like the Extra Stage, it is to define the winner but the different point is that the opponents are not the
monsters, it’s the other clubs. Plus, the reward which is to be given to the winner is not typical special items. Reward is the trading fee of that region which is another fascinating attraction point of Lead Club Battle.

Benefit
Once became a Lead Club Battle, reward is to receive trading fee for every trade made in that region. Especially, the fee rate is set at 5% by default but it can be adjusted by the master of Lead Club’s own accord up to 30%.

All of you must have played and enjoyed various action games. There are many action games which give you the electrifying and thrilling sense of the action. Battle between the users would be one of the unique attraction points of action games.

RAN online has various systems to enjoy other than just leveling up. Once a player’s character reaches certain level, it would be possible to enjoy all of the contents in RAN online. PvP is a popular system which let players to feel the action sensation. Introducing the RAN online’s unique console game like competition PvP battle system.

PvP is a challenge between characters regardless of leveling up. There are three types of PvP in RAN online; they are PK, Duel and Party Duel. As the skill casting and character control abilities, players can experience various types of PvP.
 

PK (Player Kill)
PK can be tried to all the characters which are level 20 or higher, except all the other protected characters. Conduct a skill attack to the target opponent to PK while pressing ‘Z’ button on your keyboard to start PK. This is a challenge without prior consent between the players and player who was attacked can have 60 Seconds to fight back as a self-defense since the opponent’s last attack.

Damage received would be reduced 50% than the normal attack power. EXP could be lost and one of the equipped items might be dropped, if you lose the PK challenge. Therefore, using potion is very important element to win the PK challenge. Efficient control of the skill usage and potion must be done at the same time, so shortcut key settings and one’s own know-how are required to win this.

Plus, character which tries to PK will lose the status attribute points and if he or she has succeeded to kill the target then more point would be lost. Once this status attribute points go lower than the certain level than there will be a penalty to limit the trading goods in the game.


    

 

Duel Challenge
Press and hold the ‘Shift’ button and click left mouse button on the target opponent to request Duel. Not like the PK, duel is conducted upon prior consent between the players. Also, the number of potions to use, HP increase rate, the limitation of dueling area and etc can be adjusted before the fight so the dueling does not have any penalty.

It is important to equip different item as what the opponent character’s class is and what type of weapon he or she has equipped. There are various Skills and weapon traits and types so it is important to choose the item which helps you to have proper resistance against the opponent.

As the Dueling begins, it is important to make the first attack successful and also to learn the opponent’s intention and weather to fight in melee type or use the long ranged skills while running around. Plus, do not use the skills in shortcut key in the order; be sure to use them as to properly go against the opponent’s attack.


     

 

Duel Challenge between the Parties
Party Duel has its own uniqueness other than the 1 on 1 duel, PK and Lead Club Battle. As the 1 on 1 duel, how it is conducted would be the same but the win or lose is decided by the character’s trait rather than the control. Potion use is limited and the challenge can be ended, makes it different from the PK and there is required number of players that distinguish it from the Lead Club Battle.

The most important thing in the party duel is the teamwork between the party members. Must understand each member’s pros and cons and build a strategy. Uniqueness of each class’ character traits can be really useful. For example, Archers to attack in the distance, Swordsmen for middle and long range attacks, Brawler to use the melee & cancel skills, Shaman can give buffs to party member.

Well, everyone must have felt at least once that the repeated hunting and carrying out quests boring. Boring game? That is not a game!

Through our blog, we have introduced how to enjoy RAN online more before. Among them, let’s find out more about ‘Party Playing’ which is one of the most important and thrilling elements to have more compelling hunting experience in RAN online!


   



So, what is “Partying”?

All the RAN online users must feel the need to Party up to play RAN online. Party is a temporary group of various users to hunt monsters together more efficiently. With given option choices, dropped items and gold can be distributed fairly to more dominator or in orderly manner.
 

What’s the advantage for forming a party?
The obvious advantage of partying with other players is that hunting monsters becomes relatively easier. So, players can earn EXP points and items faster and also level up faster. Plus, players with different levels and classes will bring on all the variety of skills which would make the Party stronger in attacking and defending to make hunting easier.

The Advantage of partying is not only the easier hunting but also players can make variety of various new friends. Players will feel the bond which could never be felt when hunting alone. This bond will help new RAN online players to lose the inhibition fast and merge into the game more naturally.


How do you Party up?

Players can form a party everywhere in RAN online. Anyone can be in a party without any restriction of levels and classes but only maximum 8 players can be recruited in a party. It would be better to set or have a common goal when partying, such as hunting specific monsters in certain map.

Players should focus on ‘Drawing’ when hunting in a party. Well, some games forbid drawing monsters when hunting, due to “not enough hunting area”, but in RAN online, we encourage drawing because it is essential when hunting in a party. Draw massive number of monsters at once in an area and hunt them down all at once. Therefore, EXP gain speed and level up speed could get faster through this drawing method.

Plus, ‘Buff’ is another charm of party playing. Leveling up is a main purpose and fun of a game play so depending on how effectively the buffs are casted upon the party, level up speed can get even more faster. For example, when a Healer Shaman character is recruited in a party, depending on how well the healer gives the Haste (Moving Speed Increase) buff to its party members and how the other members use that speed well to hunt down the monsters faster can vary the level up speed.

Real life school RPG Ran Online has updated Extra Stage for the better user relationships and their characters’ ability improvements.


<EXTRA STAGE>
Basically, Extra Stage is an instance dungeon type system which would be played in specific place for limited time. It is divided into 4 different stages for users to hunt the monsters while building the teamwork and feeling the new excitement.

Users with characters level under 100 could participate in the extra stage to hunt monsters in limited time to acquire enhancement materials and gold for reward. Characters must go to the Practicing Yard to participate in and travel into the Extra Stage for the 4 stages of monster massacre. Once they have cleared all the stages, they need to get verified for Random Box which might contain ‘Enhancement Material Set’ or ‘50,000 gold’ inside.


We will teach you the tips on how to have extra fun for Extra Stage for the users who are not yet satisfied with above information which users can read more about in Ran Online Official Homepage.

Extra Stage can be considered as an event where monsters would appear at regular intervals. Participating in Extra Stage is like carrying out a quest which will reward you with Random Box. So to speak, Random Box will be provided only when users have completed their quest, it is not like a dropped item while hunting monsters.


Don’t forget, the goal is to feel the thrill while playing in the extra stage and to complete the given quest safely!



1. Form or Join a Party!
It is important to form or join a party to participate in the extra stage because the monsters appear in this stage have been given extra powers, not like the monsters which you can encounter in the general hunting grounds. Therefore, it would be really hard for a low level character to face these monsters all alone, so partying with others to gather power is very important. Note that when you form a party, at least one or two characters which have levels close to the 100 must be recruited to make the hunting easier.

2. Stock enough potions!
Extra Stage will require you to consume a lot of potions in order to go against powered up monsters. If you do not have enough potions in your Inventory then hunting would become really hard. Once a character is dead, you won’t be able to participate in Extra Stage again. So you would better get whole lot of potions ready in your inventory. Note that you will be able to purchase the potions from NPC who will appear during the intervals between the stages in the Extra Stage!

3. Don’t get confused with quest NPC!
First, users need to receive the quest from NPC called Ami located in Practicing Yard then, take the bus to get to the Extra Stage (AKA Newbie Practicing Yard) to enjoy the extra stage. A ‘Citizen’ NPC will appear in the center of the stage when you have cleared all 4 stages, get verified for your completion of the quest then you need to get verified again from Ami NPC who will appear in the Newbie Practicing Yard soon after. Random box will be given to you when you have finished the quest and 2 verifications, so do not forget to receive verification from Ami NPC.

 

On the other hand, Ran Online has revealed Extra Stage demonstration trailer on their official YouTube Channel. Trailer will give users a little bit of taste for the background set and realistic hunting scenes in Extra Stage.

Q. Introduce yourself for us.
Greeting! I am a Ran Online Development Team Manager Brian Kim of Min Communications Inc. My job is to manage project schedules and human resources of Ran Team.
 

Q. Ran Online has quite a unique theme which is ‘school’, how did you first think of this concept?
Fantasy games were the majority in game market when we first started to build Ran Online. Therefore, we wanted to create a game with a theme which could be very unique and enjoyable for younger people and no repulsion for older generation. So, we narrow down the concept to modern and school for Ran Online.

As the concept was decided to focus on modern and school, Ran Online was able to approach various generations of users more familiarly. Plus, when it came down to the stage where we actually started to develop Ran Online, the most important points we focused on were “More modernized” and “actual school like” concept in basics.

 

Q. What would be the most unique system (or contents) of Ran Online that you can think of?
Ran Online has various systems which were nurtured and developed from its modern and school concept. Amongst all, ‘Lead Club Battle’ system would be the most unique feature of Ran Online. Lead Club Battle is a system which benefits the winning club for the war between the clubs (alliances) to conquer and rule certain area of Ran Online world.

With the background time set in modern, if the dueling between characters and clubs has the strongest impression in the game then the next specially featured system would be the attendance book. Literally, attendance book system benefits characters which log in to the game every day. You can say that it fits the school concept of Ran Online really well and familiar to everyone who ever attended school.

Plus, this is not possible to experience in Ran Online Global Server (GS) yet but the PvP system between users or schools, performed with gorgeous skills and thrilling fighting sensation, are already in service for the servers where Ran Online is serviced.

All these various pre-approved systems will be revealed on Ran Online GS server through updates more than twice per month so make sure you do not miss it.


Q. Ran online has been mostly serviced in Southeastern region, what would be the pros and cons of servicing a game in many countries?
First, Pros can be stabilized system which we have learned through many years of service experience. All of our efforts would be for nothing if any of the things such as registration, client download & installation, connection and play goes wrong even if many users log in with great interests. So, we are very focused on system stabilization when servicing. Also, the optimization of the game for the low spec PCs attracts more users.
 
Also, I would like to mention the Ran Online Global Tournament the global ceremony of Ran Online. Ran Online GT is an offline convention of Ran lovers to play Ran Online together. You can say, Ran Online GT is a ‘Ran Online Day’ to enjoy ran online with all the Ran Lovers from many different countries. I guess, if we are ever going to have the 3rd GT then users from North America and Europe would have chance to participate also.

 

Wealso provide a chance to present each country’s culture in the game with various contents. Such as “Map of Shibuya, Tokyo” can be a good example, including various traditional clothes and cultures from each country.

Ran Online, Cons? We consider the graphics which we have created in the early stage of developing Ran Online is a bit shabby. Therefore, we are trying many ways to present Ran Online with better graphics by applying it to the new contents.
 

Q. Tell us what are your goals for the Ran Online GS OBT?
Ran Online GS is being serviced to give excitement of Ran Online for the users from North America & Europe. Currently, Ran Online GS is getting lots of attention with participation of users from more than 80 different countries. However, the game has the oriental feeling and I wonder how the users from many different countries feel about it.

I really would like to find out that what are the thoughts of users from many different countries, how do they feel about it and what are the things that they really want by communicating with them a lot. We will be putting a lot of efforts to understand and study each country’s culture to be able to create contents more familiar to all of them. Through Ran Online GS OBT, we are trying to learn more to make a better game, so please do not hesitate to give us your ideas.

Unique Game Contents
- Ran provides the independent game play as the package games by isolating other players from the party or a single player whom are or is participating in certain quests.


- The quests connected to scenario provide the sense of leading game for the users to play the game more actively.

 

Character Control
- Mix of skill combinations are main attacking method of this game and to execute the skills, number keys from 1 to 0 will be used when skills are assigned. Plus, Q, W, E, A, S, D buttons are used to consume potions to maximize the console like feeling of game playing.


- When the character is in the motion for preparing to execute a skill, it could be canceled if pushed by another player. So, the use of ‘Cancel Skill’ naturally embosses the control ability of a player.

The navigation function called ‘Auto Path Finding’ which allows character to go through the labyrinth to a destined location with just one click and ‘Auto Attack’ function which will automatically catch up to running away enemy to the end with a click of ‘Ctrl key + Click’ are the example.

Interview 1 – Self Introduction and Works


What is Reno’s main work?
RAN ONLINE is already in service but it needs to respond with our users and get the feedbacks to update the game continuously. Usually in a game, new maps, items, monsters, characters, and NPCs are updated so, I am the guy who design all the visuals in every part of the game.


Then, what exactly is Original Painter’s (hereafter OP) job?
When update is needed, planner makes the project and hold a meeting together about it. In this process, OP creates visuals of the images inside the planner’s brain. Sometimes OP’s personal preferences and character might be reflected out on the image. For example, Planner would order “New Monster needs to look mean, strong, large with wings and use fire.” (This is very simplified^^) then, OP has to make specified visual images and 3D Graphics designer will start to work on the graphics with that visuals.

 


Interview 2 – How to Become a OP?


What sorts of preparations are needed to become an OP
In the college, I briefly worked a job related to graphics. After that experience, I have been working as an OP. Usually, new OP prepare portfolio and formally apply to game company or get picked up for well maintained picture related blogs or homepages with their works. (In some cases, some people transfer after studying comics and animations) There is no right way in becoming OP but creativity is the key so, don’t just depend on getting an education but practice and brainstorm to improve your painting and drawing skills.


For the OP ‘Wanna Bes’, please give an advice.
The must be prepared key points are basic dessin practices of human body, building sense on shapes, understanding light and shadow to understand fine arts and obtain ability to express oneself. But the most important thing is that you need to create something that no one has ever created with those obtained skills. It is very important to see, feel and experience many things without choosing genres because you have to widen your range in thinking to enjoy the pain of creation.

 


Interview 3 – My Working Know-How


Characteristics of Reno’s Original Paintings
I focus on the sense of shapes when drawing. It can also be explained as dimensional sense of taking up the space. My work is focused about shape that could possibly exist in real life. Therefore, I have to consider the balance and ration of the character. I always ask myself that if it is possible to exist in real life or not when designing.


What is your own source of ideas?
I take memo in daily life because you never know when the idea would just pop up in your head. I try to take a good look at everything’s lines. Sometimes I get my ideas from the animations and films.


How to overcome the pain of creation
By the continuous brainstorming, it will help improve your abilities, so I guess it is a requirement.

# Tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do here at Min:


Q. “What are your main duties and responsibilities as a project manager, or PM in your position at work?”

A. “Most of them go to the schedule and human resources managements, as well as providing some occasional help related to the game planning, although, as I come from that field of expertise.”


Q. “What made you come to the field of game planning in the first place?”

A. “Back in ’99, I formed a team for planning and producing animations and games on my own. At the time, I did not have enough knowledge about those, but the passion, and all I could do was go here and there for about a year to collect anything seeming to be of assistance that would help me know more about animations and games. During that time, I was trying very hard to get as much information on both – for animations and games – as I was able to, but I just couldn’t. So I was focused on the animation at first. Then about a year later, I started my own animation business, which soon got turned down as the Korean animation market at the time suddenly went under, and my interest naturally shifted to games. I believe that the way an animation or a game is presented to the general public is quite the same in the ways that they give the fun. But I must admit that I had a hard time getting myself familiarized with the whole new media called games in my early part of the career.”

 


# Ups and downs:


Q. “When is it that you feel most discouraged with your job?”

A. When no one feels the same fun as I feel about my works that is supposed to give fun. You get this sort of experience when you don’t have a firm understanding on how the game should work to give the most fun out of the game to its players. Also, as an online game designer, I get a lot of requests that I can’t possibly do anything about, from players who have come to love their game characters so much. I do all that I can in my power to have them done in their favor. But, you know, we as a developer have to be very extra careful in dealing with these requests that we do them in fairness with a subjective view on each of them, and, yes, sometimes they don’t get their requests done as they would like. So there are lots of challenges to deal with, especially in this career, and at times when you bump into a deadlock, where there seems to be no solutions at all, that’s really hard!”

 

Q. “On the other hand, when is the most rewarding time with your job then?”

A. “As in other entertainment areas like animations or movies, the games developers like myself, get excited the most when people love and talk about the piece of product we created for them to enjoy. I really feel like a million bucks!”

 


# Some words of advice to the prospects:


Q. “So what does a person have to prepare himself/herself if he/she wants to be a games developer like you, PB Kim?”

A. “First and foremost, you got to have tons of hands-on experiences with different games – the more, the better, basically! – so as to develop and cultivate some sense of being able to see and catch out why people love a particular game so much. Unfortunately, I don’t… so I am still struggling even now! So you should have a fairly good understanding, or even a glimpse of it, on what makes a game is one of fun. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you should and could downplay on the areas like Games Development Methodology, Schedule Managing, Documents Writing and Managing, and Marketing. All I am saying is it is more fundamental as a games developer that you first have a solid understanding on what it means for a game to be fun to its players than that you indulge yourself with all those administrative stuff I just mentioned.”

 

Q. “Any advice to those who are thinking of taking a job at planning and developing an online game?”

A. “Well, that would be that they need to make sure to know all the bolts and nuts about a planning developing process from A to Z. I’ve seen people don’t get bothered much about this or think this is less important and jump into the more of an administrative nature, for example, those areas I talked about in the earlier question of this interview. But let me tell ya, unless you don’t fully appreciate and have a full picture on what’s going on with a development in its every single detail as a “field commander” with your project in hand, it’s like you are trying to write a good and quality college report without actually knowing what you are going to write about. Then, your project is going nowhere, but just stalling, and so are your colleagues. Remember, you are a field commander!”
