Many people like to look at new games and just compare and contrast them to their previous game. Wich is usualy their most played.
The problem with this is your expecting to have something just as new and innovative as that game. Now why is that a problem? Because most games are not innovative. They only change and improve things that have worked before.
Now what should have been done while you started play this game? Looking at it from the perspective of never have you played a video game before. Leave your bias of your favorite most prized idolized game at the log in screen of your current new game. Then proceed to have an open mind of the game.
Now after doing this you can actually say you have tested/played a game. Doing anything else will result in you not truly experiencing the game because you have just shut your eyes to it.

First off, Nice job on your first post.
Wed Sep 10 2008 7:23PM ReportSecondly, I understand completely where your coming from. I used to compare every mmo I went into to my first mmo. Doing this left me always saying that the game wasn’t good enough. Now in a lot of cases this is still true weather or not I compared it to my first mmo or not. The fact is how ever that you will probably almost never get the same feeling that you got from your first mmo. You may get close but you wont ever do it imo.
Just want to point out, that changing and improving things is as innovative as creating completely new.
Otherwise, you're perfectly right. You should turn the whole topic to something like "10 easy things to note from someones post, before ignoring the rest as unexperienced worthless crap".
Thu Sep 11 2008 7:13AM ReportLIFE is about learning from past experiences. And saying that you haven't truly tested or played a game because you're using past experiences to judge a current entertainment is just plain wrong.
Going into a game with your eyes wide open doesn't mean you have to toss out everything you've learned. In fact, tossing out everything you've learned means that you will never evolve, nor encourage the games you play to evolve... you'll just mindlessly consume everything, regardless of the fact that there may be games out there that do things better.
It's also horribly wrong to think that it's okay if games don't try new and/or innovative things. I EXPECT such from the games I play, otherwise... what's the point of playing them? I can just go back to playing that old game that has the same features, and not have to waste money on the exact same thing all over again.
When we grow up, we look back at a lot of the shows and things that we used to like and go "ew, that wasn't that great." But what you're saying is that this type of mentality isn't right and that you can't truly experience anything unless you approach it as if you were still five. Guess what... you'll never get the most out of a game. Instead, you're just walking into a game with your eyes closed yourself by refusing to look at anything you've tried before.
Thu Sep 11 2008 11:24AM ReportStreea, if you have ever taken an Sociology class you would have learned that nothing you learn is a fact, only an artifact from culture.
Taking things in with an open mind and loosing bias' is the only way to really get a feel for the game.
Saying you expect things only sets you up for failure. I take it you have had at least 1 boyfriend (maybe married?). But when you were younger did you have expectations of your boyfriend before you really knew him?
Did you think he was a sertin way or did sertin things before you got to know him? What about the next boy friend, did you expect him to improve or "innovate"?
Same thing apllies. That guy you dated at first was not compatable meaning if it was a game not fun for you. And if your married then that guy was compatiable. And looking that as a game it means that game is just perfect for you.
