NeoNaka's Renegade Rants

I am one of those, that a lot in the gaming community piss me off, so I have decided to start a series of rant blogs.

Author: neonaka

Words that should be banned on a global scale.

OK, I know I am not alone in this, but I am going to list a series of words I think should be banned on a global scale because they are ignorant and immature and give most people the shivers or a headache every time we see them.

1. lol, lolz, lmao, lmfao, rotflmao

2. omg

3. ftw, ftl, Ftw, Ftl

4. h4x, hax

5. 1337, leet, l337

6. noob, nub, noobie

7. teh, bleh, meh

***meh ( As posted meh is common and used by the Canadians it seems so I will leave it alone, I personally like Canadians)

8. !!1!!!1!!!!!1

9. ANYTHING with a z02, zor, or zo2 at the end.

I personally want to choke the crap out of every person I see who use these in every day typing.

I can handle the occassional lol.... and maybe even a lmao.... but the rest are just ridiculous and anyone caught using them should be canned.

I am sure that if games had a built in ban program where every time one of the words were used in a general chat the account immediately got logged off and banned. The majority of us would have a MUCH better gaming experience.

I will leave you with my all time favorite dumb ass use of these words in a clump.

lolz noob, omg bbq dairy queen ftw.....

Enough said on this subject.

Anyone willing to add to this list please feel free to post them, in case I missed some.

I actually like a few of those, lol in particular is a very easy to read way of conveying humor in your meaning in such a way that is quickly understood in today's internet.

But for the most part man, I agree with ya.  Except meh, meh isn't an internet term at all...its a very common spoken and accepted literary term.  Canadian, if I'm not mistaken.  The rest is drivel used by people who just like reusing things they heard before.

I did not know about the meh thing so I will edit the blog for it.

OH

Yeah and if I hear one more chuck norris joke I will vomit.

I like chuck, he was a great action star. He was a good martial artist. All around swell guy.

But I really hate those jokes. That will be part 2 of this rant.

I'm okay with "lol" it can be hard to type in the middle of a battle without looking like and idiot (aka how would it be if you just typed "laugh" not very engaging) But I agree on other counts. People I know talk about "pwning noobs" in public and wholeheartedly. One was surprised when he didn't find it in the dictionary. I pray that most people stop using these words for the gaming community and for themselves. Quick question for girls, would you bang someone who says "Lol my l33t pally roxor pwns noobs"?

Also the Chuck Norris jokes were fun when they started but after five I got sick, that sounds like a good idea for a blog post. Good luck on it!

j/k

You have to admit though, all of these are words hilarious as a way of making fun of the annoying bastards that actually type like this.  =D

Anyway, my personal favorite is "teh".  For some reason, it cracks me up everytime I see it.  I think I'll gonna petition Webster's to change the correct spelling (and pronunciation) of the word "the" to "teh"...

Can't say as I like leetspeak or lolcats any more than the next person, but I hate censorship even more. People still have the right to be ignorant.

If you support free speech you have to take the bad WITH the good.

Jimmy's right on the money. Next time you see someone go 13375P33K on you, just pretend you don't kno what they're saying. I'm fine with lol or anything to do with laughter, I use "wtf" sometimes, but the others I don't care about. I see em, I know what they mean, but I don't hate them.

In the past I played a game that allow to you build up a list of replacement words that would appear in any chat instead of other words. Offcause, the changed text was only seen by you, but I found it a very useful tool. I wish I could remember which game it was, and also wish more games did it.

1337 5P34K came from Quake and doom games back when 56 k modems were new.  Some ppl do go over board but isnt typing a impersonal way to communicating anyways. The point is to get your point across quicker.  Why say laughing out loud  when u can say lol.

I can understand typing words properly in a forum or a email.  But in game ... why be so formal ,, first person shooters are a prime example you got something to say well you usually dont have time to right a whole proper sentence cause half way in BAM your dead ! example (nice one man you got me good laughing out loud !) that can be too long  sometimes  instead ( n1 d00d lol )  same thing  and i havent been shot middle of sentence. Problems is theres all these punks who think they can l337 speak and use it at improper times. In
world of warcraft  or other mmorpgs and first person shooters who cares as long as it isnt gibberish. If your in a forum or typing a email then whats the rush.  1337 speak i believe is essential but is highly abused :P  g1 all Rolf at OMG Im HAXXORS N3rD5 .

P.s true 1337 speak is dead at one tiem it was spelling all words without any letters :p

Spelling nazi..I dont mind those words at all...Allthough the only words I use is lol, gg and sometimes ftw in an online game. Easier to write and convey the message perfectly. Oh, and depending on the online game, I use the short versions on whatever places are talked about, like SSC/Maggie(WoW), SB/ hecks(AO) and so on...

I have no issue with many of these words if they're used from time to time. Sometimes they are their own words with definitions (newbie/noobie/etc), othertimes they're simply used instead of something else (lol is the same as haha, hehe, or any other type of laugh or joke). If these things alone bother you, then you should probably not play MMOs.

Full on leet speak, on the other hand, is a plague. Using something like lol is a lot different than being too lazy to spell out "you."

I vote that if ever these things are "banned" we petition the word neonaka be banned so I never have to read a blog involving censorship like this again.

A wise man once said, "This is a game...Get over it!"

fact of the matter is, like someone else pointed out, I would rather take the good WITH the bad and have freedom of speech than the alternative. Consider...maybe the government is reading your post and one day...all our censorships are based on this post...I mean...they cant even recover saved emails from 2006 I bet they troll forums all the time.

If you don't like the words, don't use them.  If you don't like it when other people use the words, avoid those people.  You may find yourself leading a very insular, solitary life, but at least the rest of us will have one less insufferable snob to deal with.

But to be honest, I do tend to limit my interaction with people who overuse these phrases.  I don't hate those people, but the evidence of their writing style leads me to believe I probably won't have a lot in common with them.

That's why this sort of language is so great.  It helps you separate the mental children from the grownups.  If everyone wrote the same way, it would take a lot longer to figure out who you don't want to deal with.
