My life as a post-apocalyptic clone

Alas, the miracle of life..... Again.

I awoke again today.  I guess that may not be strange for a great majority of you, but for me, I guess its the strangest thing that could have happened.  I died yesterday.

Well, I suppose it was yesterday, I mean I remember it as though it was only seconds ago.  I remember everything... a woman, some ninjas, two guns, a non-friendly family-mutant, an ATV.... oh, and lastly, the bomb that killed me.

This time however, when I woke up, it was to some strange program about cloning, or death by explosion..  the name GlobalTech appeared a few times..all the while sounding as though everything was right as rain.  Every now and then I would get a glimpse of a woman. Perhaps THE woman.  The woman from the Dam.  I guess she survived.

After a few more moments passed the program was interrupted by this woman who explained to me what happened,  about the explosion, about how I was created and why, and lastly, something about my DNA being broken. Apparently, I have some horrible genetic problem and I could potentially die at any moment.  Seeing as how I've already died once, I guess I should just throw caution to the wind and just try and live as good of a life as I can with the time I have left.

After the lengthy explanation covering everything I would need to know including a history lesson on the Shiva virus that started it all, I was given a choice on where I would like to start my new life.  I went over my options carefully and decided that I would like to head to Zanesville with the Enforcers.  I met a few of them in my past life, and they seemed nice enough.

Within moments, I was there! Quick and seamless.  I stepped out into the world and looked at the vast landscape.  What seemed to be bunkers and warehouses populated the airstrip.  The sky was brown, as was just about everything in view.  As for post apocalyptic Zanesville?  It seemed to be buzzing today.  I walked down the the pathways in between the buildings, stepped into a building or two and spoke with a few local merchants.  They were all selling books on geology, science, ballistics, and me feeling a little left out on my arts-and-crafts, bought the lot.  They must have been much shorter then they looked because I read them almost instantly.

I moved on after spending almost all of my chips, and found myself at a firing range or two where I was taught how to use a crossbow and a zip gun.  Once again after learning something new, I was sent on a mission to kill someone.  I would say I felt conflicted about it, but in truth, with everything being so brown in Zanesville I'm sure they kill people constantly just to see a different color from time to time.

After carrying out the request to kill... more then once, I decided to take some time for myself and walk the grounds around Zanesville.  I was happy to find a tree stump, some shoddy scraps that I scavenged for reasons I didn't really understand at the time,  some copper, and many other various plants and animals I found on my long walk around the town.

I was pleased to find some others walking about, scavenging and harvesting, riding around on their horses and ATVs.  That was the way to go, unfortunately I was low on chips, had almost no direction, and felt as if I was just some guy in a barren field searching through garbage.  I needed a plan.

I went back to the town and found a strange fellow that looked as though he wanted me to talk to him.  It turned out, all that junk I just scavenged? He wanted it.  He wanted it ALL.  I gave it to him, and he paid me fairly well, but instead of buying that shiny new horse, I decided I should make myself some new clothes and weapons.

I looked through my schematics and recipes and decided to focus on some pistols, a jacket, some shoes.... maybe even a hat!  Theres no END to the possibilities!  Besides, buying those mediocre items from the merchants was really highway robbery.. I mean chips are tough to come by, and a guys gotta have chips.

I spoke to a few more people, all of which were greedy, vulgar, and lazy... which worked out great for me because I needed chips, and they had stuff that needed doing.  I followed their instructions to the letter, picking up items while also harvesting, scavenging, and mining as I saw fit.  I crafted myself some zip ammunition which was sorely needed which took about 8 minutes each, although it took quite a bit less time if I was standing in the ballistics building when I crafted it.  I guess it helps to have an expert on hand to yell at you when you're doing something wrong.  I cut my time by 30 percent.

At this point I've earned enough knowledge about various things that I could really start putting my focus into training some of my skills a bit more.  I decided to try doing a dual route... maybe not the best idea, but I thought I should stay with crafting, but also move towards something more offensive like a pistoleer. I love pistols, I love making stuff too... why can't I do both?

Unfortunately I didn't have time just to sit around in a shop all day, I was on to my first big mission killing some punk named clawhammer.  I walked into the building and was ambushed by 3 guys that seemed to appear out of nowhere.  I ran around them, firing my zip guns, jumping and moving, never getting surrounded, and I was able to kill all three of them.  My victory was short lived... another set of guys showed up.... I was beaten pretty bad, I was tired, and my ammunition was low... I had no choice but to switch to my second gun, the crossbow.

I fired a few shots off, trying to move away as much as I could so as not to get locked in and surrounded.  I killed two of them, but there were still 3 more,  A head shot to one of them, and then, I was knocked unconscious.

When I woke up in what seemed to be the cloning facility, or perhaps it was a medical facility I was a little disoriented.  I found my way back outside, and crafted myself some more ammo.  I must have spent a good 30 minutes just making sure I had enough ammo. I crafted myself a new jacket too... one of which is the pinnacle of fashion. I thought on perhaps asking for some assistance with this request, but pride got the better of me.  I marched back up to Clawhammers warehouse.

When the door opened I walked in and saw him.  He stood there for a moment, then turned, and started to run at me like some mindless schmuck.  I opened fire with my zip guns, aiming at his head for good measure.  He came closer still.  I had to reload.... I tried to run past him,  he hit me with a sledgehammer.  Its okay, I thought, I can still do this... suddenly, my body activated a mutation, as Clawhammer struck me again, I barely even felt it.  I turned on him and opened fire, downing him in a couple seconds.

I left the warehouse in a daze, and walked back to Zanesville. At that point I took a seat on the ground in the middle of the market, and rested.
