I have watch all 3 episodes of Stargate Universe and I am liking what I see so far. I love the drama and the scenes where even the most distinguished, composed, smartest scientist losing their cool and composure due to pressure and the human frailities in a stark contrast to the previous Stargate series' super macho man image. Folks, if you like the previous Stargate series then you'll like this one, it has most of what the previous mythos has to offer -- cool technology, alien worlds and seeing the heroes get out of a jam. If you are new to the series and like things with a bit more drama than action then you will like this series too. Thank god they lose the english speaking aliens. The aliens featured so far is truly alien.. it seems benevolent but we could be dealing with a new life form that no human can yet understand.
The series is a ripoff of Old Battlestar Galactica series and Star Trek Voyager series.
And this is the series they are offering as a promotional to the Star Gate Worlds MMO.
Have to say this, this is a epic failure, after watching the episodes I would not touch Star Gate Worlds MMO with a 50 light-year pole.
The soldiers comes across as warmongering cowards and morons. The head scientist is a moron know-it-all. And that gamer guy comes across as a idiot.
It might have the brand name of Star Gate but it is not even related to the popular series, not even close. IMHO this series is a Alternate Universe type series.

Wed Oct 21 2009 3:49AM ReportI like SG:U but I am quickly growing tired of the every crises is a 2 part episode, because of 30minutes of character melodrama, if I wanted that I would watch reruns of One Tree Hill or Dawsons Creek. So far in 3 hours they have had one "alien" life form which was a sand sprite. The show isnt Battlestar Galactica, it isnt Voyager.... trueth is its a drama version of Red Dwarf or Lost In Space.

It's basically like putting a bunch of tourist/civilians in the middle of the Sahara desert with only the clothes on their back and a bottle of water. I think that's the most profound change in SGU compared to Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis. I still love Stargate SG-1 the best.
Fri Oct 23 2009 2:28PM ReportI sure hope they start to dip into more lore of the ancients or something. One thing is for sure, they got a LOT more funding for the CG than they had for either of the other two shows. SG1 didn't really get super awesome till middle of the first season (well other than the fully naked chick in the first episode), and Atlantis well it kinda sucked till the 2nd season, then kinda hit a wall when it got cancelled for this show.
I love stargate and I am fully willing to give it a full season to get its story straight and get me hooked.
