It's never pretty when an MMORPG closes its doors. Most of the MMOs that die are the unpopular ones that never became popular, nevertheless I know that all of those now defunct games had players who are now left all alone in the cold. I feel sad just thinking about it, how people can play their character for years, make lots of friends, get excited over rare loot, achieve so many in-game goals, and then one day their character and its history is just gone for good.
However, it's not all gloom and doom. There are a few dead MMORPGs that have been brought back to life. To give just one example, when free to play MMORPG publisher Outspark went kaput Luvinia Online also closed. Six months later, a new publisher took over and relaunched it. Now Luvinia is doing better than ever, with higher resolution graphics and a new expansion.
