Ok, so I decided that there are just not enough reviews here on leveling guides and such that all of you want to know about. So, I searched on teh web and found that there is only 1 Age of Conan leveling guide on the market right now.
I'm amazed too… But, I went ahead and bought a copy so that I could review it for you here so you'll know what all to expect and the good and bad of it. Here is my review for you to decide if it's worth the money or no…
Ashiling's Age of Conan leveling guide is a really long guide that details the game from start to finish. While I do give some kudos to him for putting out the first leveling guide on the game, I have to say that it's lacking in some areas. Let's start at the beginning…
The beginning game information is pretty good. It takes you through the interface, the character creation, game terms, and more to help get the reader oriented with the game. For those that have never played the game, this is great. And, those that have already gotten a feel for it can simply skip this part. But, it is a really thorough overview of the game in general. This part of the guide I really like.
The leveling guide part leaves a bit to be desired. I tried to follow it on a new toon and was amazed at the number of quest names that are left out of the guide. He simply says “Go to X NPC and get the quest from them”. Then, later on in the guide, he'll tell you to turn in quest “Go Kill Cows” (made up quest - doesn't exist…) and you have no idea who you have to turn it in to. This part of the guide needs to really be fixed so that you don't get lost in the game, trying to figure out where you're going. I can see where a noob to the game will get lost without a better guide list of the quests.
The profession information is pretty good as well. It does go through all of the different professions and what you need to do and so forth… but it's not too in-depth either. So, if you are really wanting to know about profession information, this isn't the guide for you.
After going through the guide from start to finish, it's not really worth the almost $40 that I paid for it. I think that the price is too high for most gamers which will push a lot of people away from buying it, and the guide itself isn't that good either. Overall, I give it a 7 out of 10, because it is a decent guide.
I think that I'll put together an Age of Conan guide… maybe a gold making guide too… You members out there need to keep an eye out for this….
