Now understand, this short little ditty is coming from a huge fan of the Final Fantasy series.  I have rarely been disappointed by ANYTHING Square has released in the past.  The other night while looking for Mortal Combat: Deception for Infected, I noticed a $1.99 30 day trial of Final Fantasy: Online.  I had never played it before, I figured hell, why not, it’s only 2 bucks.  I eagerly install, and wait another 2 hours for patching.  As you already know, patching right after installing seriously gets under my skin… and by “gets under my skin” I mean, makes me want to beat a panda to death.  After taking a shower, smoking a lot of cigarettes, and drinking copious amounts of wine, the install finally finishes, and I am on my excited little way…   [ READ FULL ARTICLE HERE ]

I played it for about 2 years after it came out and loved the game, I did not see any of the problems you had.  I like the graphics and there was tons of people playing the game, never had much problem finding or making a party.  Maybe you should just go back to WoW.

I think your review is horrible, you spent maybe 10 minutes playing it-- final fantasy 11 is a game you can play completely without a mouse.. WASD controls work fine, FFXI is one of the best MMORPGs out and the graphics are fine-- the game's meant to be played with a 56k connection cap..

Maybe if you spent just a little more than ten minutes playing you'd realize what the stable playerbase has known for 5 years now
and for a game that's almost 7 years old it still has some of the richest graphics available, some of the best gameplay-pve-storyline-mission quests
full cinematics in missions
and that your review is-by leaps and bounds- far worse by bias than this game could ever be
FAIL

NOTE: this game came out in 2001 in Japan and almost two years later at the end of December 2003 in North America
and that their playerbase has kept relatively stable since its start in North America-- I logged on the other day and 72 out of my 200 friends on playonline were either online or afk, on Friday night i saw 117 online or afk and i haven't played in 2.5 years

Your vulgarity throws your review out the window as far as I am concerned. Try writing with style and maybe folks would listen.

u are serious a horrid reviewer, just give up. i played on all 3 plats and the game to this day looks great, its a diffrent look and i love it. this is for the hardcore gamers basicly, very community based. lvls1-10 u just solo and there usualy isnt a massload of ppl in those areas. how u saw noone in ur starting town is BS, they are usualy 2k+ ppl on at all times on my server. the controls were built for console so thats why everyone uses a gamepad.

i give ur pointless review of this a 0/10 U SUCK

I'm really sorry to admit this but i must agree with most things he said. I was honestly really disappointed being a huge final fantasy fanboy =P. I was really excited when i first heard the news about this game. The graphics on this game are truly unappealing i mean final fantasy X looked like it had better graphics. Maybe i was expecting to much from this game but tbh i got this excited when learning about most ff releases and they never let me down.

I really need to stop reading this guys blog. They have been horribly written with him swearing just because he can. I have a pretty bad mouth myself but your reviews just look childish. Its one thing to curse like a sailor when your out with your buddies, its rather childish to do so when writing or speaking in public places.

As far as your reviews of the games once you look past all the swearing........X-play does a better job on there reviews and thoes 2 are looked at as a joke to true gamers. Doesnt say much for you.

rofl Adeptinwar, FF12 uses a slightly modified version of the SAME graphics engine as FF online, and by modified i mean translated for for the less memory a console has. For being 6 years old it has amazing grapchics. I just wish the game had a NA only server

I have to say, after reading all of blogs, Im glad this idiot didnt like both of these games.  These are 2 of my favorite MMO's and Im glad he wont be there when I go to play them.

Seems like all he wants to do is go kill shit and pvp with as little effort as possible......Im not sure why he even attempted either of these game.  FFXI you need somewhat of a brain to play....

I rarely post on this site, and simply use it to keep up to date with the latest MMORPG developments. I then read this rather abismal blog, and had an unstoppable urge to post.

I'd like to start by stating I didn't enjoy FFXI.

Firstly, FFXI is an out of date MMORPG. You're trying to review a game that has been running for, I think, 5 years now. There in lies your first lie, you are hardly a "huge fan" of the final fantasy series if you left it 5 years to give it a shot. I imagine if you were a real fan of final fantasy you would have been like every other fanboy out there and, like myself, been outside th shop at 9am on the day of release to make sure you got your copy.

Also you can hardly place your gaming experience at the low level scale of an MMORPG when it has a substantial solid end-game community. As I said, you're 5 years late.

Next, judging from your blog you have the technical skills of the everyday housewife. The game is by no means hard to get to grips with, and everything can be picked up rather quickly.

Finally, you attempt to come off as witty and humorous in your little blog, yet I somehow doubt you were drinking wine as you state, since you have the literary skills of the modern day pre-pubescent teen. Yes, you have tried to look mature and post funny comments, but I hate to say that in this respect you have failed terribly.

I'll put it in that kiddy internet linngo you seem so fond of. In closing, your blog is about as entertaining as sticking my nose between your mothers unwashed beef curtains. Childish isn't it?

Mkay...

This is sincerely pathetic. I've played this game since launch and this review is quite the opposite of what it is.

The graphics are a bit dated, but it still looks better than many MMOs out there.

The reason theres a large update after installation is because THEY ACTUALLY FIX THINGS AND GIVE NEW STUFF! They release content every few weeks.

Sure, the first few levels are a bit slow but thats to let you do the starter quests and to give you a good handle on the gameplay. If you were instantly lvl 10, you'd be completely unable to even begin to EXP in parties.

Also, as for the lack of people... you usually start out in an area of the city that very few, if no people inhabit. Look in Bastok Markets, or Southern San D'Oria if you want to see people. And even then, most people are out EXPing, doing missions, camping monsters, or staying in the big cities... Jeuno and Whitegate.

A mini-map would just take up space on the HUD thats better used for keeping an eye on your environment.

The full map helps out tremendously once you take the 3 seconds to learn how to use it.

The controls are not WASD. They're not designed to be WASD. Its the numeric keypad. Its EASY TO USE... 8 is forward, 4 is left, 6 is right, and 2 is back. They did that so you could access your menu, open chat log, target, rest, target, and turn on auto-run without having to hit different keys! Its a great idea!

Once you hit lvl 25-30, the game picks up majorly. You start getting into the backstory of your nation. Then as you lvl up, more missions and quests become available that make you understand the world better.

No other game I've played has an integrated storyline. All others have an "implied" storyline. Theres no interactivity with that story.

This was a horrible review, inarticulate, vulgar, and just plain trashy.

Im sorry you didnt like this game, however an analogy comes to mind, if you read the first chapter of a book, put it down and say it sucks, well you only can call on one chapter of experience, you can say the first chapter sucked. But you cant say the whole thing sucks in general until youve made your way through the whole thing.

As mentioned by previous posters, all this cursing and sailor talk really detract from any point you maybe trying to make, no matter how valid.

Clean up the language a bit, and dont assume just because you didnt like how the game started that the whole things sucks.

Id also like to throw out there that graphics arent indicitive of a good game.
