Below are just some of the crimes that have been related to games, MMORPGs in particular, according to Catherine Donaldson-Evans in her feature in foxnews.com

  • A 2-year-old girl nicknamed “Baby Grace” by detectives was found dead in October in a locked box in Texas — allegedly the victim of a beating murder at the hands of her stepfather and teenaged mother, who met playing the online fantasy game “World of Warcraft.”
  • A 31-year-old Australian woman named Tamara Broome was nabbed in June when she traveled to North Carolina to lure a 16-year-old boy she encountered playing the same popular Internet game.
  • Twenty-six-year-old Florida resident Daniel Lenz is also under investigation for allegedly coaxing a 15-year-old girl he played “World of Warcraft” with to run away with him.
  • In China, a “Legend of Mir III” player is spending the rest of his life behind bars for fatally stabbing another for the “theft” of a virtual sword.

Good report for the people too nieve to know any better. People need to understand that anywhere online as well as in real life, people are shady ...be careful.

That being  said, there is no case for alarm amongst games. Just a tip to be careful when dealing with people.

MMO are just an tool. This stepfather might have met the women in an store or in the local pub to.  Older folks "luring" yougher poeple happen before. Wrong wrong jokes have been made before......ok theft of non execisting items is new, but I am sure that player would have ended up behind jail sooner or later becouse he would then be out on the street and killed the first person sitting on his bench in the park.

Internet made the world an smaller place, meaning for poeple wanting to do wrong they have more "working" space.

If you read his article he gets almost all his info from Fox News.. which means about 60% of it is probabally lies.  The report he states about violence in games causing violence in real life is also taken out of context.. the actual study if you read the entire thing actually states the exact opposite.  Basically it says while people are engaging in violent acts online they are more violent in that time period... when they stop playing the game they tend to be less violent in there day to day lives..  But taken out of context like the above bloger did it sounds like it supports his opinion.. which it doesn't

Im not sure how meeting in an online game and video game related crime equate. So if two people meet in a church, then murder their child, would this be a crime related to religion? Spreading propaganda does no good...

MMORPGs and Video games... are not the cause of these idiot's crimes.  It's the idiots that are the cause of the idiot's crime.  I mean this is like saying that someone went to McDonalds ate a couple cheeseburgers and then committing a crime and now it's McDonalds fault for the idiot committing the crime.  I wish you people would stop blaming video games in general and start blaming the people for their crimes instead.  Liberalism is a mental Disorder.

It all boils down to human nature. Like I said, there are extremes. Often they are ugly and sick as witnessed by the crimes committed. Of course, I got the facts from the source (which I credited). That, my friend Quellick, is what blogging is all about. Aggregating info on the net and putting it in mediums to be shared to everyone.

Merry Christmas!
