Alrighty…let’s tackle a sensitive issue here.

First, why are female breasts over-hyped in video games? Can Lara Croft really be adept at swinging and doing acrobatics with those C Cups? Can full plate armor really protect you when you show those mouth-watering cleavages? Do you love Dead or Alive for the gameplay or is it something else?

These and other “mysteries” will slowly be unraveled in this post/study. I will attempt to tackle, catalog and share with you facts and insight about the science (and possibly the logic) behind the design and conscious (or subconscous) desicions of game designers on breasts in relation to games

Boobs are great, everyone loves boobs.. men, women, babies.

In gaming they are a great tool for pulling in the crowds. Men get to spend the evening with a gorgeous lady. Women get to spend the evening as a gorgeous lady who is extremely kick ass. win:win.

I don't know about wow not having skimpy armour.  I seem to remember a paladin outfit that was little more than a g-string and a bra.

All I can speak for is Guild Wars which is the only MMORPG I can afford!  So here goes, I have rarely, if ever, when I even know the true sex of the individual involved, heard complaints about breast size in GW.  It was simply an artistic decision, which I agreed with, to keep the men either rangy or buff and the women...well endowed.  But then, again, this is FANTASY, not reality.  I mean, if someone wants to make an MMORPG with that kind of a reality basis.  Fine, more power to them!  Whether anyone will play it is another matter.

As to whether this affects people in the real world, I don't know; but I would think it exremely unlikely.  We all know that we're not going to be the buff or bountieous body we've been playing on the screen for the past three or four hours in our beds when we wake up the next day.  I mean, life, hello?  Anyone who has trouble believing they're not Rex the Raider when they wake up in the morning will need to see a nice person in a white coat very shortly.

In short, it's fantasy, people!  Also I don't know any women who don't, at some level, feel completely comfortable in their own skin.  This kind of fantasy allows them to have, at least in a game setting, a body that they want for as long as they want.

Now this is different than then the guys hitting on them.  I've known a few guys who've been suprised at what garbage other men can put on them just because those men thought they were girls.  No one should have to deal with harassment, guys or girls.  And I hope the moderators of ALL games put those who abuse those rules in their place.

Well, I kinda strayed, but I stand by all my points.  Besides, that was half the fun in GW was the new armor looked on my female characters! :)
