Rants of a Geek

Well I don't blog much, usually just toss out dribble I am thinking of here and there related to MMOs, SharePoint, and general crap. Scary dribble really...but dribble none the less. Dribble anyone? :)

Time to Move On...

Well, I've given it my best since closed beta for Warhammer, but its just not working for me.  The population imbalance on our server, Iron Rock, due to the 1.2 patch has really left me scratching my head as to why I am paying $15/mo for the game.  I stuck there as long as I can, but now I am just going to have to move on.  Maybe I'll reactivate sometime in the future, but I do not think even the Land of the Dead content will help much given its RvR centric.

I am also missing PvE and Raids.  Warhammer just does not have enough end game content to keep me playing.  Seems that too much focus was put into the RvR aspect, which is supposed to be the end game, but when you have a population issue or stability problems, PvE/Raids are a nice fallback.  City Sieges are just broken and really are no fun and feel like a grind.  Sadly, Warhammer just does not have much in the way of content, so I have become bored of the game as I have no fallback from RvR.  Yea, I've done Bloodwrought, Bilerot, and would like to do Lost Vale, but after a while doing the same 6-man dungeons gets old.  I miss Caer Sidi, and the epic dungeons that DAOC had, you know the ones that took 50+ people to go through. :)

Oh well, so is the way MMOs go...

Sadly I have heard this regarding Warhammer which is why I never picked it up, to be honest I rank it way down below Age of Conan which I did buy and enjoyed.

This is where WAR really hurt themselves, they thought hey there's enough PvE centric games out there let's not worry too much about that and give them more quality PvP. Unfortunetaly the ratio of people who PvE vs PvP leans more towards PvE.... For an mmo to be really successful now you need both at reasonable quality.

I moved on long ago. I wanted to experiance the 26+ years of Warhammers robust lore. I wanted to see the Warhammer world through the eyes of the people that created it. Sadly the world seems more a waiting room where you run shallow quests until you get flagged for your next SC or RvR gank war. Oddly enough after a few months of playing it felt like that horrid abortion "Fury". A game where you qued up for SCs and ran in circles till you got flagged. I just feel like mythic came to my door and pissed on my foot.

Thanks for the constructive comments everyone, with the exception of Fr0z1nDuDe.  You know, if your going to comment, at least be constructive about it, otherwise go find something else to do. :)  While it is a PvP centric game, it was advertise as something different.  Take a look at DAOC, it had RvR, but had a PvE fallback.  And yes, I did expect MORE from it.  At least with WoW you could PvE with the potential of getting ganked in a contested area on a PvP server...more exciting.  Not to mention you could take out flight paths, etc by attacking towns.  Originally, Warhammer was supposed to allow capturing of war camps and towns in the PvE areas, but that was taken out due to time constraints and complexity in development.  The game took over 7 years to develop and required a lot of rework when Mythic took it over to put it on the DAOC engine.

Side note, yes on a Core/RvR server you can be flagged and get ganked in PvE, so yes I do know that.  However, the feel is not the same as most people spend their time in the RvR lakes where the zergs go...

There was so much that could have been done witht his game.  I too was hoping to walk in to the rich lore of Warhammer and feel they fell rather short.  Why not have a raif system based on the PvP endgame like having yourfaction being ablr to control a raid through the RvR end game campaign or something like that.
