I mentioned in my last blog, besides the nostalgia, that I would write about darkfall and current generation mmo´s...by the time i wrote that, I assumed more info would be available by now, I was wrong, as was alot of people...

when i initially started my first "blog" (shit i still laugh at the name "blog" perhaps someone can tell me what that word exactly means) i was abit afraid, to speak my thoughts...especially in these forums where people

can be quite harsh, but, its better to face it, then live in fear of it, as I once read..so here are some afterthoughts on the darkfall subject:

most "trolls" ( i actually hate that word, but damn i have to admit, trolls do indeed exist, especially

regarding to darkfall) that give criticism have not checked out anything really, they just assume its vaporvare, or for the laugh of it, if they are proven right, so does "fanboys" btw...not sure which i am ;)

so instead of writing tons of opinonated stuff we all heard, ill take the liberty to post hitherto known facts:

Leaks: http://darkfallleaks.blogspot.com/2009/01/client-size-184-gig-and-other-stuff.html

facts: http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=78786

Pro:

the dream of ultimate fantasy freedom

Con:

That it cant be realised,yet.

I could talk of my own thoughts and what i have gathered ppl think so far, but as it would be another story or..most importantly...your thoughts that decide this...some say HEY, if it fails we wait for mortal Online..

but honestly...How many times can the game designers promise: we give you your game dream, and fail...before the gamers stop, and think, just a second, before saying, this is enough...

I hope both DF & MO will succeed. if nothing else, just to change the scenery a bit.

just my afterthought though. Enjoy the new year all, and PS: if you feel you need more links, just say so, and ill post them.

Best regards Etlar

i'd rather get promises from small companies trying new ideas and original brand content, then big CO. like SoE and EA making the next Star Trek/ Star Wars and ripping ppl off because they have forgotten the important thing for MMO's, that they should be fun... not just un-original name brand re-hases over and over year after year

@ Hidden1: I normally love to engage in an open discussion about mmo´s ..but sadly,  i tend to agree with you, i dont think however, that they are in it, to rip us off, i just think, that they actually never played any mmo, and enjoyed one..which leaves them in the dark....

@ etlar:  okay they have "indirectly" ripped people off because they has lost their focus and priority of game design to focus on what "name brand" will popular... how about that... its the nature of the beast w/ big companies as they forget the basics and worry about what the "next big thing is"... what's next Marvel Univers MMO?  Imagine 300 wolverine clones running around in a server... yeah name brand and big CO ironically brough the MMO's to it's heights but at the same time can be the downfall by oversaturating the market w/ a flood of Name Brand ideas instead of originality

@Hidden1: explicitly i wish I could say..#(¤/ blah :))  but i cannot, because you nail it, almost though, because these ppl are supposed to know the "next wave" of popularity, but as we both know, they are not even in line with what gamers wish for, and that leads me to ask how can they not know what we want, when we explicit express it on various forums? ps: i love that you counter my rants!! :)

@etlar i can't help countering rants, sadly i suffer from needing to feel important... but I hope that at least i made some valid points in the process :)

@hidden1: not only have you made some valid points, you have also made me think harder upon the "big ónes" like the renowned EA cancer as they call it, I actually almost feel like writing a new blog just about the large gaming concern´s , ;) so yeah, you surely made a valid point! i hope you didnt kill the thread with it lol :)

Still waiting for this game i see.

Still no client to download.

still no updated website.

Sorry but there is nothing to debate here.

@stayontarget... would rather wait on something more original than the next star wars, star trek, stargate, X-men universe, DC universe, Marvel universe, ... ugh it goes on and on, Name Brand MMO's should be put in a dusty corner somewhere as gamers today are craving for more original content... nuff said!

ok hidden1, wait for DF a little longer and tell me if was worth the wait with your no name brand game.

sorry buddy but there is nothing original in DF or its claimed epic content.

If you disagree then show me the video's, screenshot, or anything related to real hands on game play thats not cooked up by the DEV's.

I play games that are fun, I don't sit on my hands waiting for a game to come out......nuff said !

I have absolutely no problem with name brand mmo's as long as they are fun. Nor is there anything inherently wrong with such games. All they are doing is using intellectual property that they KNOW  people like. As a matter of fact I am looking forward to Star Wars: the Old Republic.

As for original...well, what's original? What hasn't been done? I'm sure someone could come up with  new stories for old genres but it would still be the same old thing...fantasy, sci-fi, martial arts, etc. About the only thing that hasn't been done is cyberpunk, that I know of...which, by the way, I would love to see a Shadowrun mmo.

@BarakIII sure I can understand your argument, but w/ brand name based mmo' universes/worlds, most big companies loose their focus during the games development, concentrating on whether they got the look correct on characters and background art, instead of concentrating on gameplay aspects, and battle/skill system design... if you're waiting for bioware to make a good starwars title, well I wish you best of luck, but history has proven in the past that "name brand" mmo's tend loose subscribers a month of two after release... maybe bioware will break this pattern... who knows one can only hope for the best.

@stayontarget:  brand content isn't original... what I mean about original in DF's sense, is that it's universe is not based on some Brand Name (i.e., Marvel Universe/StarWars/StarTrek/StarGate)... don't get me wrong I would love to play an mmo in one of those universes.... but the real question is can the big CO's. backing up such huge Name Brands make a good game, a fun game... history has proven NO w/ brands such as Star Wars/ Warhammer was boring in slow in gameplay ...i dropped my sub after a month, AoC combat system was convoluted and slow, not very user-inuitive... The reason I have more faith is smaller CO.s making "non-Name Brand" porducts is that they will be making a game w/out worrying about whether the Lightsaber is the "right" size, or if the Enterprise is the correct color and has the proper insignias, or wether Daniel Jackson's chin is in correct proportion...

Basically smaller companies that make non-name brand mmo's can focus on wether the gameplay is fun, wherein big Co. name brand mmo's have to worry and sweat about wether they got the look of the brand right (and this is for legal reasons as well)... I'll take my chances on small companies then... they can focus on the game and gameplay mechanics and more likely will make a fun mmo
