Experience in Lusternia: A Greathunt!

Lusternia is constantly having events, but these events need not be roleplay-focused. Indeed, for the hunters, and let's face it, grinders, out there, this past weekend there was a Greathunt across the Basin of Life. A Greathunt is basically an experience-gaining contest, but before I explain further, I'd like to discuss the various ways to gain and lose experience in Lusternia.

Hunting

The tried-and-true method in almost every RPG is killing monsters for experience, gold, and items, and Lusternia is no exception. The amount of experience depends on a couple of things: your level, the monster's level, whether or not you're in a group (a 'squad' in Lusternia), and if so, the levels of the others in your squad. Critical hits, augmented with a Divine blessing or an artifact, greatly improve the speed of hunting, as your normal hits can up to 32 times the normal amount of damage. Bam! You can offer corpses to your Divine of choice to give Them essence, and you gain a bit of karma too!

Influencing

Unique to Lusternia, you can use your ego to mentally fight against sentient denizens. There are five types of so-called "ego battles": seduction, empowerment, weakening, paranoia, and begging. All of these are based on your charisma and various other attributes. One thing I really like about Lusternia is how much sense it makes; the fewer clothes you have on, the more influential you'll be at begging for money. But don't take it too far: being completely naked makes it less likely they'll take you seriously! A few tattered rags and you'll have a bonus to begging. But for the rest, you'll want to seem as influential as possible, so apply some alluring perfume and your seductive wiles will work even better! All forms of influencing get you esteem, which you can sell to others or offer to your choice of Divine.

Aetherspace

You can also be part of a vast aethercraft crew. 'Aetherspace' is basically 'outer space', it surrounds the many planes that make up Lusternia's world. Each part of the crew is essential: a pilot, an empath (a person who operates and heals the shields), gunners, and a siphoner (to draw out the creatures). This can make for some great experience, but if your pilot or empath makes a misstep, you may find yourself in the burning wreckage of your former ship, so be careful out there!

Killing others

Of course, you can also gain experience from killing your foes! The amount of experience you gain is based on the level of your victim. Be forewarned that killing on the Prime Material Plane (the main plane) is controlled by PK rules, so you can be punished if you kill the same person many times. This is to stop griefing. The other planes are open PK, though, so have at it!

Dying

Being brought down to zero health (or hit points) will cause you to die. But worry not! Every city and commune has a method of resurrection. But even if you can't be resurrected, you can always PRAY FOR SALVATION from the Gods, though the cost for doing so is higher than being resurrected.

Shattered ego

When your ego drops down to 0, your ego is shattered, which is similar to a death in terms of experience lost if it is a denizen who defeats you. You won't need to be resurrected, fortunately! If another player brought your ego to 0 through debating, you don't lose experience, but your ego is shattered, meaning you cannot influence at all for 10 minutes.

The Greathunt and me

The Greathunt rewards the top gainers from hunting and influencing with credit prizes in three level tiers: demigod, 66-99, and 1-65, but it also doubles experience gain across the board, even for aetherspace hunting! So even if you don't want to buy two dozen energy drinks and play until your fingers go numb to win the top prize, you can get credits just for participating, in addition to the experience gain! It's a win-win-win, and all around a great time. I hunted and influenced my way to 2500 points, the number needed for the prizes even to everyone. I'm a new demigod, so the more essence (experience points) I can get, the better! Everyone is hunting and influencing, so just find a friend and go out together. Not only is it more fun, but you can kill things much more quickly. I didn't try for the top ten prizes because I've been packing for my upcoming trip, and the winners usually don't take breaks, especially in my tier.
