The Deities mentioned in the Kickstarter backer rewards that are yet to be named are actually demigods. They each rule over a different path of the land which is rooted in the skill and spell set. They are the Demigods of:

Life
Death
Earth
Air
Fire
Water
Sun
Moon
Time
Energy
Pain
Fate
Mind
Body
Spirit
Soul

Wanted to post the new, updated map for the game as well as some game info.  This is a map in-the-works; concept art, and will be repeatedly updated to include more info.

PvP

The PvP area shown in the map is where Kingdom vs Kingdom will take place.  The orange markers represent resource landmarks that kingdoms will fight each other  to maintain control over (i.e. a mine).

 

PvP is a 4 level system:

--Kingdom vs Kingdom in the PvP specific area.  Each kingdom has the freedom to fight each other and team up with each other.

--There will be PvP areas within each kingdom where it will be 2 Races vs 2 Races.  The factions will be as follows:

Kingdom Awan:  Elves + Catra vs Dark Elves + Undead

Kingdom Balih:  Humans + Faerae vs Dwarves + Lizardians

Kingdom Babum: Trolls + Lycans vs Goblins + Elementals

Kingdom Jushur:  Air Giants + Frost Giants vs Rock Giants + Fire Giants

--The main PvP area where Kingdom vs Kingdom takes place will also allow for solo and group PvPing in a free-for-all manner where anyone can fight anyone except within their own race

--Practice arenas will be included throughout each Kingdom where it will be each race vs each other all in one arena (4 races against each other) and will be divided up according to character levels.

What we want to do We want to make our MMORPG (massive multi-player online roleplaying game. We want to go back to the roots of gaming and what made it fun before it went corporate. Back to the questing, PvP style, game mechanics, etc. that made games such as Everquest and Dark Age of Camelot successful but with new, fresh ideas and twists.

We want to make a game that brings the skill and game play back. Gamers used to stick with a game for several years at a time but now they seem to be hopping from game to game in a never ending search for the ultimate game that holds their attention, challenges them, and encourages gaming skill like online games used to. We want to create that game-one that has all of the bells and whistles of the modern day MMORPG along with the details and game mechanics that the older, more innovative games had. We want to take the best of both worlds and create a game that gamers want to play and keep playing.

Here are some things in store for Hedronites (players of Hedron Online):
--Hedron will offer full PvE and PvP systems. The PvP system is made up of four kingdoms that battle each other over material, skill, and spell resources! You as a player will belong to one of these kingdoms. In Hedron your spells, skills, crafting abilities, and economy is impacted through PvP! For example, the kingdom that controls a mana crystal will be able to unlock an extra level of spells both individually and in a group. This allows for players to plan small tactical attacks as well as large scale invasions and something actually worth battling for. Hedron will also offer PvE alternatives to receive the same rewards for players who prefer PvE over PvP.

--Kingdom vs Kingdom will be an integral part of Hedron's PvP. There will be a PvP specific area so that the days of being ganked by someone 20 levels higher than you while you try to complete a simple quest are over with Hedron. Each kingdom will have 4 races and each race will have its own background. Some will get along with each other, some won't. Imagine that-enemy races belonging to the same kingdom where they can fight each other as well as join forces for the greater cause of allowing their entire kingdom to rise above the others. Four kingdoms, Four races each offers 16 races to choose from with all sorts of different backgrounds, character types, and back stories. The possibilities are vast.

--Hedron will have regular in-game events to help keep the player involved in the storyline allowing them to stay immersed in the game world. The world will change over time as events take place just as a real world would. Players will have a truly unique experience as their characters become an integral part of the game rather than just a game piece running around killing and questing to reach an end level before they get bored and leave. Hedron seeks to deliver new gaming experiences regularly, including one of a kind quests and events as well as moving quests that become a permanent part of Hedron’s history.

----Elaborate skill and spell chains that allow for special skill and spell unlocks that are unlike the standard in the MMORPGs of today.

--A unique guild system! Hedron will have built in guilds that you may join which are geared towards grouping and building a team dynamic that allows even the part-time gamer the chance to join the biggest raids and events. Each guild will be lead by players who earn their leadership positions in various ways so that every player has an opportunity to become an integral part of their guild’s hierarchy. Each guild will also have its own guild house, guild trade broker, guild storage, and guild only perks!

--However, we also understand that there are many guilds out there who have moved from game to game and have a wonderful camaraderie and team already built. We will offer a system and a world that allows your guild to become a permanent part of Hedron! Guilds will be able to apply to become an official Hedron guild. When approved, your guild will receive its own guild house built right into the game world and will include its own guild only perks! Hedron is going to offer a world in which guilds will thrive and involve more than just a fancy cape design.

--A dynamic quest system that offers moving quests, race specific quests, guild specific quests, deity specific quests, and more so that each time you play a new character the game will be a new and different experience for you! Our goal is to move away from repetition and create a real fantasy experience.

--Hedron will have some of the usual familiar races and zones but will also have things never seen before in MMORPGs. Our attitude is that the possibilities are endless and we have nothing holding us back but our imagination, so why not take advantage of it and go wild.

--Unique monsters and bosses is another thing Hedron will offer. Most games have the same monsters in every zone but they simply change the color or size. We will offer a new experience with new scenery and monsters in each environment that you visit.

--Hedron wants to offer more than typical leveling. We want to offer sub-levels which offer more skills and spells. To do this we will offer raids of all sorts. Not the 8 hour, 100 person raids of the old days, but raids that will take groups of people, lots of co-operation, skill, and planning. We will steer away from slow spawn rates so that you don't have to camp out at a location waiting for the boss or quest to spawn. We want to make it accessible and fun for both the part time player and the full time player.

--We plan to bring balance to the item, crafting, and money systems. We will focus more on allowing your character to obtain mods and attributes by accomplishing quests and kills rather than gobbling up every item and gold coin you can in an attempt to create the most uber character you can. Imagine receiving a scar on your character's arm after beating a boss which boosts your spell resistance instead of farming the same mobs for three days waiting for an item to drop that gives you the mod. Our goal is to immerse you in the game play and to reward you for participating in guilds, groups, quests, and the game storyline as opposed to rewarding simple farming. We will have items with mods but the real juicy stuff will come from what you actually accomplish during game play. We think that sounds much more fun and brings back the roleplay aspect as opposed to farming, killing, and collecting mindlessly....the usual gaming grind. No one likes to grind so we want to try to do away with it and replace it with actual game play!

How do we plan to do it?

We plan on purchasing the Abyssal game engine to tangibly create and run the game. The Abyssal game engine is a powerful engine equivalent to some of the top engines out there. We plan on purchasing professional 3D graphics from a new form of 3D technology which offers more realistic models and graphics than seen in any current MMORPG. We have some favorite artists from the Daz 3D artist community that we have chosen. We have character models, MOB models, environmental models, clothing models, weapon models, etc. chosen already.

We have a team of graphic artists and programmers as well as a pool of professionals and service providers for anything else we can't handle ourselves. We have a vision and we will stop at nothing to accomplish it. We are not concerned with a bottom line or making millions. We just want to make a fun game that gamers want to play and continue to play.

More Game Info

We didn't forget to post our update, we've just fallen a bit behind on it. We've been having several meetings to try to organize all of the notes, info, and changes in ideas that we have. We've also been trying to figure out just how much info we wish to release to the public as we don't want some of our major features to be stolen and used by other game developers.

So here is some more info we've waded through (we have hundreds of pages of notes, outlines, info, etc. lol) that we've decided to post:

We have a very detailed back story that is approximately 120 pages long, typed. However, this story is not going to be known to players in full. We will be releasing a portion of it-just enough for players to understand their character's place in the game. Players will participate in the storyline and learn the back story in real time as the game unfolds. Most MMORPGs have a back story that they fill you in on before you play, they have some form of evil that you must overcome, and that's about it. It's also usually fairly predictable. With Hedron there will be in game events which will allow players to learn where their characters came from as they play the game out.

Kingdoms:
There will be 4 kingdoms which will each consist of 4 races (for a total of 16 races). These kingdoms will be the core of the PvP system as they will be set up to either be at war with each other or at peace with each other. Kingdoms will control resources that are necessary for crafting, spells, and skills (such as a mine which contains an ore). The PvP system will allow other kingdoms to conquor and take control of these resources for themselves. More kingdom information will be coming soon.

Races:
There will be 16 races. Each kingdom will have 4 races. The races will vary from the usual races that gamers are familiar with as well as some new and interesting races. Among the races will be Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Trolls, Orcs, and Gnomes. More race info, including which kingdoms the races will belong to, will be coming soon.

Crafting:
The crafting system will be an involved system of several different choices and levels. All of the resources required for crafting will be used among all lines so that there is no imbalance in demand and value of the resources. The crafting system will allow for the creation of potions, armor, weapons, enchantments, and more. More crafting info coming soon.

Classes:
There will be no specific class system. However, Hedron's class system will not operate like the typical "classless" system. Players will earn several different types of "XP" and will be able to spend it to train in whatever they wish to train in such as skills, weapons, spells, crafting, etc. Hedron will also offer the ability to train in bundles of these for those players who wish to play a "cookie-cutter" or pre-designed type of class. This type of system will give players the freedom to create their characters however they want. Players can have a typical healer type class build or they can be more creative and have a character which heals, fights with a bow, and cast spells. It is left up to the player's imagination and allows for full player creativity which will allow for endless challenge and possibilities in both PvP and PvE.

MOBs:
Most MMORPGs offer the same monsters throughout the entire world but they merely change the colors and sizes of them. Hedron will offer a wide array of monsters that are area and zone specific. Rather than just tossing a group of monsters out in a field where they have no apparant reason to be there, Hedron will incorporate their monsters into the storyline and will have a wide variety of monsters so that as the player progresses through the game it will be a constant new experience. We will also offer true elite bosses that are unique and visually cool as opposed to just a larger version of a smaller MOB.

Game Experience:
Repition is something we are steering far away from. Hedron will deliver a constant new and changing gaming experience to keep players on their toes. Each new character players create will allow for a new and different gaming experience so it should never get boring or monotonous. Each system within the game (skill, crafting, quests, etc) will allow for a different experience. The storyline will be a real-time storyline instead of a pre-designed in-game storyline, therefore, it will essentially evolve and can even change depending on player actions.

Quests:
Hedron will have guild specific quests, race specific quests, kingdom specific quests, and deity specific quests (each kingdom and race will follow different deities). This adds to our goal of having a different gaming experience each time you play. We will also offer quests that will allow for different choices, responses, and actions. The player will be able to choose which one he/she wishes to follow and that choice will change the outcome of the quest. It will end differently depending on the player's choice. This, too, allows for a new gaming experience each time the player creates a new character as well as adding to the roleplay aspect-players can make their quest choices based on how they wish to roleplay their character.

World:
Hedron will naturally have familiar scenery such as forests and deserts, but it will also have elaborate underground areas, dungeons, buildings, landmarks, and unusual zones that defy the norm. Our goal is to create a fascinating world that is both familiar and unusual, and will not become boring.

Our development team is meeting on Sunday June 20th to put together an update which will give details of what will be in the actual game.  This update should be posted to our kickstarter page, website, forum, official blog, this blog on mmorpg.com, and the forums here on mmorpg.com by the end of Monday the 21st.

What is Hedron? Hedron Online is a dynamic MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) that returns to the role playing roots of online, story-based gaming. The goal of Hedron is to offer much more than repetitious grinding and farming for character levels. Hedron focuses more on immersing you and your character into a fantasy world that allows for your in-character actions to offer real rewards and consequences.

What is our goal? Over the years online gaming has lost its “fun factor” as it has shifted to a corporate-oriented business that is more interested in gobbling up as many sales and subscriptions as humanly possible while delivering the bare minimum of storyline involvement which usually only consists of reading bits and pieces in cut scenes, instruction books, and quests. Other important aspects that have been lost are roleplay, dynamic PvP action, and the whole concept of online gaming in the first place-positive interaction with other gamers. The motivation to interact with the game and other gamers is scarce in today’s MMORPGs. Skill systems, game economy, Guild systems, and PvP have become broken. Corporate MMORPGs are delivering so little and dazzling their customers with fancy graphics and character creation abilities to make up for it. Hedron’s goals are to bring these “fun factors” back and plans to deliver a gaming experience that you won’t forget.

Who are we? We are a small team of four with several outside resources. We are creating this game on an entirely volunteer basis. We are not seeking to be paid for our work. We just want to produce a fun game that delivers what we feel thousands of other gamers are looking for. We are not trying to be the next World of Warcraft but we DO want to create a professional gaming experience that is enjoyable and not an endless grind session. We plan to offer Hedron for download but will remain open to the possibility of publishing the game in a boxed version if its success allows for it. Between the four of us we have many years of gaming, programming, graphics, computer, and networking experience beyond simply playing online games. Two of us have done volunteer work as staff in online games. All of us are tired of hopping from game to game, wasting our time and money, only to be disappointed and forced to move on to the next attempt at regaining the fun that gaming has lost. Instead of continuing on this never-ending, redundant journey we are creating an MMORPG that incorporates the positive aspects of gaming of the past and present and does away with the negative ones. This is our first MMORPG but don’t let that inexperience fool you. We are highly capable, have excellent resources, and are very dedicated to creating a superb online gaming experience that won’t just beckon you to play, but we hope will keep you playing for years to come.

There will also be an “out of character” channel available for out of character chat. These channels can be turned on and off to easily adjust to the player’s preferred gaming experience. Hedron will have regular in-game events to help keep the player involved in the storyline allowing them to stay immersed in the game world. The world will change over time as events take place just as a real world would. Players will have a truly unique experience as their characters become an integral part of the game rather than just a game piece running around killing and questing to reach an end level before they get bored and leave. Hedron seeks to deliver new gaming experiences regularly, including one of a kind quests and events as well as moving quests that become a permanent part of Hedron’s history.

Why are we here on Kickstarter? Hedron has been in the planning stages for years and our team is finally ready to move forward with turning it into a reality. We are funding this project ourselves but need a small kickstart so that we can purchase the game engine that will allow us to actually code, program, and generate the game. This is the most expensive part of our project and we need a little help with it. We are going to use the Abyssal game engine which is capable of producing an absolutely amazing game environment and experience equal to and even better than some of the top MMORPG titles on the mass market right now.
