Pygmies, pixies, butterflies, and dragons: newbie life in Achaea

A few days ago I posted about creating my new character in Achaea. I've started her off making her way in the city of Shallam, and it's been fun getting to be a newbie again!

As soon as I completed the Trial of Rebirth, I was welcomed by members of my new House, who asked me to read a couple things and made sure I knew what to do. They checked up on me a few times over the next few hours too, asking me if I needed any help, which is a good sign. One of my new Housemates taught me some of my paladin skills and bought me a few starting supplies. The Templar House seems like a really friendly and supportive place--I'm glad I chose it.

Once I had a sword and knew how to use it, I headed off to do a bit of hunting! Like many text games, Achaea has a few areas intended for brand-new players to get their feet. Achaea has three such newbie areas: Minia, Lodi, and Gheladan. So first I went to Minia to hunt some pygmies:

And then I did some questing:

I have reached the illustrious level of Steady!

And then, to round out my newbie experiences, I caught some butterflies to sell them to Vellis, the butterfly collector.

Bryony has levelled up quite a bit so far, and has also saved up quite a bit of gold to buy the supplies she'll need, like armour and potions. This is especially easy to do in the newbie areas, which are designed to be fairly supportive.

But after a couple days of this, Bryony passed level 21, which means she's been kicked out of the newbie areas. She will have to make her way in the "real" world now! Like most newbies, after getting kicked out of the newbie areas, I wandered around looking for some other place to hunt and promptly got my fool self killed--at which point my new citymates heard it and went to go looking for my body to resurrect me! Nice folks.

Being a newbie in Achaea is fun (even if I'm not a true newbie anymore), so if you're looking for a no download MMORPG to play, I recommend it!
