The Misadventures of an MMO freak/noob

The life and times of an MMO freak who can't get enough of it. I spend all day looking for the best MMO's out there, and then spend a week daydreaming of what it would be like to play that "awesome" game.

So this past week, I sat on my couch staring at the Tv watching for the most exclusive announcements from the Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony. The big three. For a whole week, I had my Tv on to G4, the only channel to broadcast E3 LIVE on tv, anxious of the announcements, demos, and Steve Wiebe's world record attempt to breaking Billy Mitchell's Donkey Kong record.

On the first day, Monday, Microsoft was upl first. I was excited, as I already was, about all the new announcements. I was expecting so much from them, since last years E3 they seemed to have dominated the gaming industry(at least that was what I though). First, they come out with the video of the new Beatles Rock Band, which looked really great, but I wasn't satisfied with that.

For what seemed like an hour, Microsoft announced the big games we were all  anticipating. Modern Warfare 2, Halo 3 ODST, and so much more. Modern Warfare 2 looked so amazing, I could not close my mouth. I was so excited to play this game. I mean, from the incredible graphics to the snowmobile riding, I mean, this was a perfect game!

But Microsoft didn't stop at that, they announced Project Natal. For the last year, many people were asking if the Xbox 360 would turn to motion control just like the Wii. Our questions were answered, but more than what we anticipated it to be. Project Natal turned out to be motion system, where instead of just using controllers, your whole body IS the controller! I was so excited, I thought this was the technology to take us into the future! But I was doubting it, until they showed a live demo on the stage, I could not keep myself from tearing up and laughing at the same time, This technology was amazing! Microsoft had really outdone themselves. But they didn't stop at that, they showed  a video of an Ai that you could interact with, sort of like a virtual brother or something. His name was: Milo. A girl talked to this Ai on her TV and this virtual person had human-like emotions and reactions. It's really hard for me to explain this, but Youtube has a video of this Milo character on their homepage right now.

So after that great first day, I didn't really think anyone would Microsoft's entertaining press conference. And indeed, I was right. Nintendo's press conference, no offense to anyone, was a total sleeper, especially for me. They talked, and talked, and talked, and talked. and I was literally falling asleep.Only when they announced the new Mario games and Metroid that it got me a little awake, but still the whole press conference was a sleeper.

Sony, I thought, did second to Microsoft, with their new PSP Go, and the games coming out on the PS3 this year. What I didn't see from the Microsoft  press conference was Assassin's Creed 2, the only game that I'm really excited about this year. It looked amazing on the PS3, and I could not stop daydreaming about it. But then Sony introduced a new project they've been working on: a new motion controller. Although, not fully done, this controller looked promising. In my opinion, it couldn't beat the Natal, but definitely maybe against the Wii.

The days after that, G4 showed live in-game demos of the new games coming out: Modern Warfare 2, Brutal Legend. God of War 3, Assassin's Creed 2, DJ Hero, Guitar Hero 5, and so much more that I can't even list on this blog. Overall, this year's E3 was amazing and I'm definitely excited fo the rest of the year, and Microsoft's Project Natal. I can't wait for next year's E3.

By the way, Steve Wiebe didn't beat the Donkey Kong record, but I wanted him to. Still though, he holds the Donkey Kong Jr world record, and is about to be inducted into the videogame hall fame.
