SWG was a true sandbox MMORPG set in the star wars world. It had amazing crafting, amazing professions, player run economy and lots of other features. That is until SOE ruined it. But, now SOE has made up (or trying to) and their off branch company is redoing SWG Pre Combat update. This is an official server related to SOE and it is legal (SOE owns it and they got the okay from Lucas). Its still in testing (they have a test server up, but its really buggy and has features missing)...but its progressed a long way

IMO SWG is so old and out of date, the only way I would play it again is if it was FTP or Dropped down to $5 a Month. It's just not worth playing a top dollar sub price for a second rate game.

Thu Jul 23 2009 6:10PMI have been a keen follower of the SWGEMU since I heard about it but I think you will find that it has no affiliation with Sony or Lucasarts and most of the server code was written from scratch.
Fri Jul 24 2009 5:56AMYeah, the SWGEMU project is a community project that has nothing to do with Sony or Lucasarts. They have created the server from scratch and are attempting to recreate the Pre-CU environment.
Sony has always said that they will have nothing to do with any Pre-CU projects.
