Rumour: Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment in Cashflow Trouble... Again

So, originally Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment's (CME) had planned to release Stargate: Worlds in Q4 2008, but this was later changed to some point in 2009. This is not necessarily a surprise - most MMOs drop a release date due to over-enthusiastic predictions - but it is something that has to cause some problems, especially for small(er) independent studios who don't have large financial resources to fall back on.

In CME's case, there have already been some rumours about how financial CME might be, with CME indicating that as a start-up they might run into trouble now and again, but that's a "typical cash flow issue".

If the latest rumour is correct, I don't think their employees will be too happy about the "typical" state of affairs - it has allegedly been 3 weeks since any CME employees have been paid. Now, I have to take this as "three weeks since they were last expected to be paid, because CME might pay their employees monthly. Regardless, if true: Ouch. And just in time for Xmas.

Let's hope this isn't the case: I want my Deadlands MMO.

I can tell you right now they are in serious trouble. Over 40 million spent, 12 million in outstanding debts and a product at least 8 months from being ready to ship. This information was given to Massively.com but they seem to have not wanted to really investigate.

They stopped paying outsourcers ages ago and are bleeding people. You may want your Deadlands MMO but it's unlikely that team still exists there, if it wasn't stargate related it's either been repurposed or "let go". They haven't had layoffs, but they aren't stopping people from leaving either.

It is hard times right now so. And they don't have any game out for an imcome so I guess it is hard to get investors to pay more.

Let's hope they get some cash, otherwise they will either have to release what they have right now or close down.

Why would they start work on a second MMO if they're having cash problems finishing the first?

If Stargate had released in Q4 of this year ... well let's just say it would have meant total collapse of the company.

Obviously I can't divulge how I know this.

Because they have been in pre-production on the second MMO for at least a year now, they just haven't advertized it, and they were likely in a better financial situation then as the recession was not such an issue then as it is now for investors.

Rumor has it that they are having troubles even getting thier closed beta testers to participate in discussions or even log in. I won't link any of the info because its leaked info, but nevertheless, it seems thier game development has some issues to. Hopefully they can continue to make the product though, I hate to see companies go out of business.

It's over. They financed this by getting tiny bits of investment. Now they have to go back bagging for more. In this total meltdown of an economic climate thye are going to get nothing. SOE WHERE ARE YOU!?!?! You saved Vanguard and made it a good game. I'm sure you can salvage this! I'm sure you could get it for pennies on the dollar for what it cost to develop.

Judging by the leaked info and gameplay videos, I'd say CME really is in serious trouble. I think SGW will share the same fate as Hellgate.

I am a big MMO fan, and a huge StarGate fan.....  After watching the gameplay videos I have zero interest in StarGate Worlds.   So sad.

oddly enough...

the sci-fi channel is going to be pretty deeply invested in an upcoming mmo, if it works out I could see them picking it up.
